Rise of an Assassin
Prologue - Rebirth

Prologue - Rebirth

Opening his eyes, Jason could only feel a profound weakness he'd never felt once in his life before.

The weakness didn't stem from illness or an injury but from the body's pure lack of any form of strength. Sort of like someone born without any strength; a weak body, with weak muscles and weak bones.

Looking around, all Jason could see was blurriness but his sense of hearing was working fine. Even better than that, it was keener than he thought possible and he could hear with such clarity that it was eerie.

Around him, people spoke in a weird language which sounded like the mixture of Chinese and English, it was particularly jarring to Jason's keen ears with the strong guttural pronunciation of whoever was speaking.

Weirdly enough, despite not knowing the language, after hearing it for a few seconds it started to make sense to him, like the unraveling of a puzzle in front of your eyes.

"He's trash, Yu! Our son has been born weak and in the Demonic Sands that is an instant death sentence!" The strong and guttural sounding voice was revealed to be Jason's dad and Jason instantly knew what was happening.

Despite the number of times he scoffed at the idea of reincarnation, rather believing in nothing after death, Jason himself had Reincarnated. Before he could think further, a more feminine and smooth voice spoke out.

"Karl, he is our son and that should be enough for us to give him boundless amounts of love! If you wish to abandon him, I will abandon you and raise him on my own!" despite the feminine sound of the voice, it had an untamed ferocity in it and Jason could instantly recognize who held the trousers in his mother and father's relationship.

Anyway, he heard his father gasp as he felt his mom lift him and herself up and off of her bed. He tried to stop her but he felt her arm move and then he heard a massive bang as if a 220lbs weight had been thrown through a rock.

'Wait...'

Jason's eyes started clearing up for a moment and he looked at his mother.

Beautiful long white hair cascaded down her head and onto her shoulders, two braids on either side keeping the hair from falling onto her face. The face in question was worn out and covered in sweat but its unnatural beauty was unaffected and shone like a fire in the dark; mesmerizing and completely capable of bewitching any man into walking toward it.

But the thing that drew Jason in the most was the ice-blue eyes looking at his father with such hatred, rage, and disappointment that he nearly shit himself for the man in question.

Then the eyes looked at him and he felt all that fear slip away. The boundless love in those eyes felt like it could wash away the harshest pain and the worst of fatigued, a shield against the world's horrors and by the way he mother was holding his 6'3", 210+lbs down, there must be more horrors in this world than his previous world.

'Oh, she's pretty damn strong...'

Jason nervously gulped as he looked at his dad struggling to breath under his mother's death grip but his nervousness disappeared when he heard his mother's smooth and lovely sounding voice call him back to attention.

"Jason, let us leave this pathetic man to wallow in fear all on his own, okay?" A slight smile spread on her lips as her voice did a 180 and spoke in a slight baby-voice*.

(*You know, the kind of voice you do when you're talking to a kid/baby. Soft, slightly stupid sounding but overall meant to keep the baby happy and all that jazz.)

Jason couldn't stop the laugh which bubbled up from within him and babbled it's way past his lips. Hearing his laugh, his mother seemed to melt but it seemed to have a bigger effect than this. At that moment, Jason saw the resolve become unimaginably stronger in his mother's eyes.

A resolve to protect her child and keep him safe even at her own peril.

His mother looked away from Jason and back at his dad, her gaze switching back to disdain and hatred again. She let go of his neck and sent a solid kick to his ribs, sending him across the floor and into the wall of the hut/house they were him.

Then, without saying anything, his mother picked up some clothes and left the house, walking toward a different building which Jason later found out was his mother's family's home.

But by now, his body, weak even compared to a regular baby's body, was completely worn out and he slowly drifted off to sleep.
