That night I had that same dream I’ve been having for the past five years, since my father’s death, except this time felt different; very different. It felt even more realistic than usual and then there was a beautiful girl that had appeared in the dream but her face was blocked by the shadows. She spoke but no words came out of her mouth. Unfortunately, before I had a chance to ask her what she was saying, I had awoken from the dream.
“That dream has been getting stranger and stranger lately.” I said to myself as I walk to school from my house. Then my friend Jesse, who was waiting for me to show up, shouted, “What’s up?!” which ended up scaring me because I was really deep in thought. Little Jesse, which is the nickname my friends and I gave him because he is the smallest of all three Jesse’s, apologized for scaring me and then we started to walk to school together talking about our favorite shows and movies, then I started to talk about the dream from last night.
“Dude, if this dream is causing you problems maybe you should go and see a psychologist and ask them what’s going on,” said Little Jesse. Then I started to say, “We have already tried that and they said that they can’t figure it out.” Little Jesse said, “Maybe it’s got something to do with your eye?” “I don’t think it’s because of my eye, just because it is a different color.” “Sorry, I might have hit a touchy subject.” Suddenly it got quiet between use and we just walked the rest of the way to school in silence.
When people are born, they have both eyes of the same color, but not me. I was born with different colored eyes. My right eye is a normal color, brown, but my left eye is blood red. I can see perfectly fine with both of my eyes but I cover the left with a patch because people are afraid of the color of my eye thinking it’s demonic. Also my hair has a weird color too; it is black with a white ring that goes around my head. Most people think it’s a hair style but I was born with this ring in my hair, but at least I don’t have to hide it like the eye.
After school ended, my mother came to pick me up and take me home, I haven’t told her about the dream last night; I didn’t want to worry her, so we had dinner and went to bed. After I had fallen asleep, I entered the dream again and saw the girl from before. “Red….” I heard my name being called, “Red…. Come here.” I walked towards the voice that was calling me, then a sudden bright light flashed before me; blinding me temporarily.
When I came to, I was standing in a wide, open, empty field. The only thing in the field was a giant tree, and underneath the tree was the girl from the night before. “Come here Red; don’t be afraid, I have summoned you here in order to talk to you.” I was amazed. This is the first time I have talked to anyone in this dream, and for some reason I started to move forward. “Come, sit next to me.” As she spoke those words I was already starting to sit down.
I had no clue as to what was happening, except that I felt relaxed when I sat next to her. “I have been calling you here for the past five years in order to contact you and ask for your help.” I fell silent for a minute as she told me this, then I started to say, “Why have you been calling me here in this dream for the past five years? And why do you even need my help anyway?” “I will answer your questions when you get here…” “NO!!” I had cut her off from her sentence, and I started to ask how I was supposed to even get to this place, “How am I going to get to a place that doesn’t even exist?! I won’t go!! No matter what you do I won’t go!” “You must my world depends on it.” “No, I won’t go.” “You don’t really have an option. If my world is to survive, you must come or let millions of innocent people die.”
I froze upon hearing those words and any resistance I had left in me suddenly left my mind and I had reluctantly agreed to help her. “So how am I supposed to get to that realm?” “I don’t know all I know is that you will be getting here soon.” I sighed, “So I’m supposed to just wait until then? That’s very helpful.” “You shouldn’t wait you must always be ready for the portal to open because it could open at any time. You should always carry a weapon just in case.” “Okay.” “Also you must make sure that you…” I had awoken before she could finish.
The next day, before I went to school, I had packed some canned foods and water, and then I took my combat knife that my mother got me two years ago, for protection, and my steel baseball bat that belonged to my grandfather when he was a kid, and set off. “I don’t know why I was so paranoid earlier; it was only a dream and nothing more.” I kept on telling that to myself but the more I rejected the thought the more I believed it. I was really deep in thought when… “Hey Red, how’s it going?” This snapped me back to reality. “Oh hey, How’s it going, Alvarez?”
This was another friend of mine, we call him by his last name because his first name is Jesse and we don’t want to confuse which one we’re talking to. “It seems like all three Jesse’s are here.” I said. “Yeah, we’re all here,” said the final Jesse. “Hey, I didn’t know that Big Jesse was going to be here.” We call him Big Jesse because he is biggest and the strongest of the three. “Were you thinking about that dream again?” “Yeah, I just can’t get it out of my mind and last night something really weird happened.”
As we were walking to school, I told them about what had happened and about what the girl said. “So, you think that this dream is more than just a dream and now you’re worried?” asked Little Jesse. “Well, yes.” I replied. Then Alvarez said, “Dude, you can’t really think that the dream is real; it’s just a dream.” “Yeah, it can’t be real. It’s only a dream,” Big Jesse repeated. “Maybe you’re right I guess I’m just getting worried for nothing...” Suddenly an immense pain arose in my left eye.
As the pain in my left eye grew greater, my friends began to surround me. “Hey, what’s going on? What’s wrong?” Little Jesse asked. “Guys, Red’s left eye is glowing!” Alvarez stated. “Yeah, I can see the light through his eye patch!” Big Jesse shouted. Suddenly the light grew larger and larger. “Hey, man. I don’t think it’s safe to stand here!” Little Jesse proclaimed. “We can’t just leave him here; we have to figure this out!” Alvarez implied. The light began to intensify and I was suddenly in a dark void; then I started to hear a voice, but it was not that of the girl, it was that of a demon’s voice. “Welcome... I am the gatekeeper... You are about to cross the gateway to another dimension... Are you and your party ready?”
After the demonic voice said that, I turn around to see that my friends have also been pulled into this dimensional gateway. “What happened?” Little Jesse questioned. “I don’t know, but I have a very bad feeling were going to find out soon. Alvarez stated. “What do you mean by that?” Big Jesse asked.
They seem to have been really scared by what is happening, I mean who wouldn’t; suddenly summoned to another dimension and then hear voices from nowhere. “Why are my friends here? Why did they get summoned here too?” I asked. “They were near the area of the dimensional opening, so of course they got pulled in.” I couldn’t believe that my friends got pulled into this mess with me, “Is there a way to send them back to where they came from?” “Unfortunately, there is not... They must cross the portal... or remain here for the rest of their lives.” I was scared; if my friends don’t cross over, they will be trapped here forever, but if I take them with me they might not make it back alive. I had to tell them what was going on.
As I approached my friends, they were trying to figure out what was going on. I had finally reached them and Little Jesse asked, “What’s going on? Why are we here?” I had told them everything including what will happen to them if they stay. “So if we stay here, we will never be able to leave this dimension?” Alvarez said with a worried face. “That seems to be the case; I don’t know what I’m supposed to do I don’t want to drag you into this mess.” “Don’t worry about us; we can take care of ourselves.” Little Jesse proclaimed. “Yeah we can take care of ourselves.” Big Jesse repeated. “Well if you say so.” I turn back to the direction of where the voice was and said, “All of us are going through the gateway.” “Good… Now pass through the gateway to the other dimension… And face your destiny!” As he was saying that we had passed through the gateway to the other dimension, the dimension where my dream took place.
After passing the gateway all of us blacked out; the next thing that happened was that I woke up in an open field under a very large tree. My other friends were still out cold when suddenly a girl appeared out of nowhere. “Hello Red, I’ve been waiting for you, my name is Hime.”
As I looked upon her I had recognized her, she was the girl from the dream last night. “Oh I wish I had given you the warning earlier about having people near you when the portal opens.” As she said that I gave her a ‘what the hell’ look and yelled, “Don’t you think that would have been some very important information you should have given me in the first place! My friends got dragged into this!” “I know that, but you woke up before I could tell you!” She had a point. “Now, about your friends…” “What about us?” Little Jesse asked.
I turned around and saw that my friends were awake. “Nice of you guys to finally wake up and join us.” I said sarcastically. “Oh ha-ha, very funny, well if you didn’t notice we were out cold because of the dimensional jump!” Alvarez stated. “Hey I was knocked out too.” “Hey who is that you’re talking to?” Big Jesse questioned.
All three of them turned their attention towards Hime, then she said, “Hello, my name is Hime and I am the one who called Red over to this dimension, although you guys were not supposed to tag along.” My friends also gave her the ‘what-the-hell’ look, then Little Jesse said, “Well can’t change that fact, so what did you call Red over here for?”
As Hime was about to answer, a gust of wind suddenly appeared and the sky went black, then a booming voice that sounded like thunder spoke, “Hime, do you think that this sorry group can stop me; you must think that my strength is a joke!” “Just you wait; these people will put a stop to your evil rule Kuraz and bring peace to our land!” “Ha-ha-ha-ha, bring it on.” With that the wind calmed down and the sky went back to normal. “Well that answered that question.” Alvarez Said.
“You want us to fight an evil lord! How do you think we’re supposed to do that?!” I shouted. Then Hime said, “He’s not just an evil lord, he’s an evil monster lord.” All of us gave her a ‘what-the-hell-you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me’ look, “You must be out of your freaking mind! Were just human, how do you expect me and my friends to beat a monster lord!?” “I wouldn’t if you were just human but you’re not; all of you have some magical elements just waiting to be awakened.” Then I said with confusion, “What…? How do you know if we have any magical powers? Do you a magic sensor or something?” She said with a smiling face, “No, it’s because all of you were able to cross the portal without dying.” All of our faces went pail, the thought ran through all of our minds, ‘we could have died’.
We shook the thought from our minds and then we all agreed to help; even though we had no clue as to what we could do. We then told Hime we were going to help. “Splendid, now quickly we must go and find the legendary weapons that will help us to defeat the evil monster lord.” We had no idea what she was talking about but if it was going to help us win we went along with it. “Ok we will set out for the legendary weapons, after we have had something to eat.” We haven’t eaten sense yesterday and all of us were very hungry. “Alright you can eat but you must hurry so we can locate the weapons.” It was a good thing that I packed a lot of canned foods or we would have had nothing to eat.
After we had finished we set off to find the weapons of legend. As we headed to the first weapon Hime explained how this was going to work, “First: the weapon will choose who will wield it, then: that person will have to pass a test given by the guardian of that weapon, it can be any kind of test, and finally claim the weapon, it’s that simple. Oh it appears that we have arrived at the first location.” The first location of the legendary weapons was a cave.
As we walked towards the mouth of the cave, a barrier around me and the group, except it didn’t surround Alvarez. “Hey what in the world's going on why am I the only one not surrounded by the barrier?” “You must be the one the weapon has chosen, now go on and claim the weapon.” As Alvarez entered the cave it closed and left him alone. “Hello is anyone here? If there is can you tell me where the legendary weapon is?” Suddenly the ground began to shake and then a dragon appeared. “Hello I am the guardian of the legendary Staff of Fire. Do you think you have the requirements to claim the Staff of Fire?” “Yes, so what do I have to do?” The guardian just stood there, with no response. As did Alvarez they stood there for what felt like days when, “You have passed the test, you may continue and claim the Staff of Fire.” “Wait what just happened, I didn’t even know that the test had even started. What was it even about?” The dragon then answered, “The test was about patience and you have shown that you have remarkable patience, so you pass, now go and claim the Staff of Fire.” As he left the chamber Alvarez said, “That was surprisingly easy.”
He has finally reached the chamber where the weapon of fire was being held. “So I just grab it or what?” Suddenly the room shook, Alvarez and the staff had both been teleported back outside. “So what happened? Was the test hard?” asked Little Jesse. “No, it was surprisingly every easy, all I had to do was wait.” All of us gave him a confused look but the one that was most confused was Hime, “Many people have entered this cave to retrieve the legendary weapon and none have been able to return with it in hand, saying that the test was impossible to pass the test and you say that it was easy?!” We could tell she was angry, so we waited for her to calm down.
After Hime was calm and we headed off to the other locations where the other weapons were being held, and like the first test the other ones were easy, and Hime got just as angry to find out that the tests were all easy. The second weapon we had acquired was the Whip of Nature which Little Jesse got in the Ancient Forest; the test for this one was that he had to answer a riddle, ‘What goes on four legs at dawn, two at noon, and three at dusk?’ and he answered ‘Human’ which was correct because ‘Four as a baby crawling, Two as an adult walking, and Three as an elder supported by a cane’. Next was Big Jesse, he claimed the War Hammer of Earth in a cavern deep below the Earth’s surface; all he had to do was beat the guardian in an arm wrestling game.
Then finally we went for my weapon, Hime had no idea what this weapons attribute was because no one has returned from this location when they try to claim it. We had arrived at the foot of a mountain, “So I have to climb a mountain in order to get my weapon while everyone else got theirs easy, now that is just messed up but expected.” I had started my climb up the mountain, “Good thing there is at least a trail for me to go on.” I climbed for two days before I reached to top. “Finally I made it to the top.” I looked around to see if the guardian was here and as I looked I saw a sign it said, ‘If you are looking for the cave of the lost legendary weapon you must descend the mountain.’ After reading the sign I was filled with rage, I had climbed a mountain for nothing, I could have gone around. So I descended the mountain, still angry, and found the mouth of the cave where the weapon was hidden.
I entered the cave and went looking for the guardian until I had finally found him. “It appears that you have climbed the mountain instead of going around like all the others. Good you have passed the first test.” After he had said that, my anger had disappeared, I had passed the test I was so happy that I was about to jump up in joy when the guardian said, “Alright time to start the second test” I was frozen, he said there was a second test, then I asked, “How many test do you have? Isn’t climbing a mountain be good enough?” “To answer your question, there are two more tests you still have to pass in order to get the Lost Weapon, and to answer the other one, that was not enough to get the weapon.” I sighed, “Ok, so what are the other two tests?” “First, we must test your strength.”

After he said that monsters began to appear, so I pulled out my baseball bat. Oddly enough we haven’t run in to monsters throughout this whole adventure. As soon as I saw the monster; I saw that none of them looked all that strong so I had put the bat back from where I had pulled it and readied for hand-to-hand combat when, “Alright stop you have passed!”
I had looked in his direction and asked, “Wait how I even pass if I never did any fighting?” “Because you chose not to fight these creatures, that were clearly weaker then you, with your weapon.” “I thought this was to test my strength, what does it matter if I use my bat or not?” “Because it shows self-control, strength does not have only one definition.” I had no clue as to what he meant by that but I didn’t think about it too much I had passed the second test.
“Alright so what is the final test, I’m ready for anything you got.” “The final test is not given by me; the weapon is the one to give you the last test.” “Do you know what the final test is?” “No one has ever gotten this far, most people never get passed the first test, so I don’t know what the test is.” That was assuring, not even the guardian knew what the test was.
As I left the chamber and entered the one the guardian told me to enter; I found myself in a gigantic maze and at the start of the maze was a stone slab that had writing on it, “Welcome to the Unsolvable Maze at the end of this maze is the location of the lost legendary weapon, continue at your own risk.” At the beginning of the maze was three items hanging on a wall and a sign that said ‘Take only one’; a sword, a shield and a lantern. I thought that because there was a sword and a shield there were monsters in the maze. As I reached for the sword I remembered that I still had my baseball bat and I could use it to defend to, so I took the lantern instead, which turned out to be very helpful because the maze was pitch black and if I had taken the sword or the shield instead of the lantern I would have been screwed.
I had traveled through the maze for days before I began to give up, “I can’t do this, this maze is too complicated to solve. I bet not even the person who made the maze could solve it!” I continued on until I came across a body, “I thought that the guardian said that no one has ever gotten as far as I did.” I took a closer look at the body and saw that he had a map, so I took the map to look at and saw that it was not a map but the plans for the maze, “So not even the creator of the maze could solve it,” I said with a sound of someone who has just given up, “How am I supposed to solve a maze that even the creator of the maze couldn’t do?!” So I just stopped at that spot and waited for death to take me, “I have almost used up all of my food and water and I think that I’m going insane, I mean look at me I’m talking to myself.” I had given up and right when I was about to pass out my life passed in front of my eyes, I started to remember all of the good times I had in the past with my parents and my friends, “My friends… that’s right I have to pass this test and defeat the evil monster lord in order to get back home.” I rose from the ground and looked onward with new hope, and then suddenly a bright light appeared that engulfed my whole body.
When I came to I was in a room with a pedestal in the center surrounded by what looked like hundreds of weapons, when suddenly, “Welcome to the Chamber of Lost Weapons, you have shown that you are worthy of wielding the Lost Legendary Weapon, but now you must find it for your last task.” When he said that I was a little angry that it was not over yet, but glad that it was almost over. “When you have chosen a weapon you must put it on the pedestal, but be warned, if you chose wrong you will be submitted to a very painful shock.” “So I can choose as many times as I want to get the weapon?” “No, you get five chances; otherwise the shocks will kill you.” My face went pail, if I don’t choose right five times I will be killed be the test. So I looked around the whole room, scanned every weapon before making me chose, “This one.” I picked up a sword that looked like a saw and put it on the pedestal, the sword glowed a bright blue color before going red, ZAP, “OWW!” An electrical shock ran up my body causing great pain. “That hurt.” “I did tell you.” I started to get worried, all of the weapons here could be the Lost Legendary Weapon, and then I pushed the thought aside and continued with the task, I picked a katana, a Japanese sword, ZAP, “OWW! Not that one either.” Next was a War Hammer, same results, then I picked a really old sword thinking that might be magical, ZAP, “DAMN IT!” I was on my last try and I was extremely tired, I took a look around the room one last time and noticed a Spartan shield was in here, “Hey why is there a shield in the Chamber of Lost Weapons?” “Not all weapons have to be sharp or bulky.” I picked up the shield and headed towards the pedestal, “I bet this is the one.” I placed the shield on the pedestal and watched it glow a bright gold color, “You have chosen correctly.” As the light got brighter it also shook the mountain, then suddenly I was teleported back to where my friends were.
“Well that was fast, you only just began climbed the mountain,” stated Little Jesse, “was it that easy?” “NO, it took me four days to climb the mountain up and back down, then it took me seven days to find my way in the maze I was in and I almost got killed on the last test.” “That’s harsh,” Big Jesse said. “Yes, yes it was, but I got what we came for.” I went for my back and pulled out the shield. “That is what you almost got killed for, an old Spartan shield,” pointed out by Alvarez. “That is the shield that our most powerful ruler wielded when he was our king!” exclaimed Hime, “I can’t believe that this was the spot it was put. It has been lost for the last 400 years. No wonder it was so hard to acquire it. It is said the wielder of this shield is granted the power to defeat armies.” “Sweet, this is awesome, I now have the power to defeat the evil monster lord. Now let’s head out, *stomach growls*, after we eat something and get something to drink.”
After we had eaten we headed out for the Evil Monster Lord’s castle to confront him and free this land from his evil rule, as we traveled monster started to appear as we got closer to the castle and they also got stronger too. In every battle for some reason I couldn’t use the shield, it somehow locked its self on my back so I would use my bat instead, “Hey Hime why can’t I use the shield when the monsters appear? It just keeps on locking its self on my back.” “I don’t know, maybe it thinks that it’s not the right time.” “Well that actually makes sense, well at least I don’t have to worry about my back.” Little Jesse then shouted, “We have arrived at the castle!”
The castle of the Evil Monster Lord, it most defiantly looked like an evil lord’s castle; surrounded by dark clouds and lightening striking everywhere, “Looks a little cliché, don’t it?” Alvarez tries to lighten the mood with a joke but it didn’t help. “Well this is it; it’s time to defeat the evil monster lord, return peace back to this dimension, and go back home!” I shouted to try boosting the morale of my friends, “Yeah let’s do this, let’s go kick his ass and get back home!” shouted all three Jesse’s. “Hime you wait here and stay out of danger, we don’t want you to get hurt during this fight.” “Ok I’ll wait at the village to the North of here, meet me there when you have won.” “Can do, wait how are you going to know if we win or not? We can always just leave without you knowing.” Then she said, “Because if you were to lose the monster lord would rub it in my face.” “Oh ok.” We separated after that, then me and my friends went to the entrance.
Surprisingly there was no guards, and the gate was wide open, “Do you think that he is expecting us?” “I wouldn’t doubt it. He must be really confident in his powers; to not even have guards, not even for decoration.” We had entered the chamber of the Lord’s throne room when, “So you have come despite my warning, you have guts, can’t wait to see them all over the floor, Ha-ha-ha.” “Gross,” said Alvarez.
As we prepared to battle I try to pull off the shield but it didn’t move, “No… it’s not time yet…” I turned to see who said that but no one was there, ‘I must be hearing things again’ I thought to myself as I pulled out my baseball bat. “Are you prepared to die?!” As he said that he swung his giant sword at us but we dodged it and it miss all of us, “Man that was close, we just barely dodged that, alright now it’s our turn.” As I said that Little Jesse started to use his Whip of Nature, “Take this, Root Attack!” As he whipped the ground giant roots exploded out of the ground and attacked Kuraz but he deflected the attack and laughed, “Ha-ha-ha, do you think that weak attack can harm me?!” “Well yes, I thought that was going to impale you.” “Well it didn’t.” Next Alvarez started to chant and Big Jesse got his War Hammer of Earth and slammed it against the castle floor causing the ground to split apart, but it turns out that the Monster Lord can fly, “Ha-ha-ha that hurt just as much as the last one.”
After seeing that he can fly, Big Jesse started to hit the ground at different angles with the hammer sending rocks into the air, but Kuraz dodged them all, meanwhile Alvarez was finished chanting and unleashed his attack, “Engulf him in flame Staff of Fire, Void of Fire!” Suddenly a ball of fire engulfed Kuraz and the heat from the ball began to melt all of the metal in the room, like the suits of armor and the weapons they held. When the fire had finally died down Kuraz was kneeling on the ground, his armor burned to a charcoal, then he spoke, “Congratulations, you actually did hurt me a lot you burned my left arm pretty good, now I know who to get rid of first.” “Oh crap, all that did for me just made him angry, now I’m screwed.” Kuraz swung his sword at him in a sweeping motion but he jumped back dodging it, or so I thought, the force the swing gave the sword pushed Alvarez towards the wall slamming him and knocking him out cold.
As Alvarez was knocked out the other two Jesse’s attacked enraged by the fact that he hurt one of our friends, “You’ll pay for that!!” Both of their attacks combined and injured Kuraz even more, “So you want to be next then, fine by me.” He raises his right arm and casts a spell on both Jesse’s, “Tempest Whirlwind,” knocking them back at the wall causing both to get knocked out.
“So you’re the last one still standing? Oh well time to end this,” he said while swinging his sword at me. I’m barely able to dodge his sword and the force that follows, and whenever I see an opening I take it but my bat doesn’t do any damage to him, “You’re wasting your time trying to hurt me with that stick,” of course he was right, how can I hurt a monster lord with just a bat, “Don’t give up… you still have a chance,” that voice, where is it coming from? I had no time to answer the monster lord just kept on attacking, “What’s the matter you’ve got to keep your head in the game or you’ll lose it.” As he said that he casted his spell again, “Tempest Whirlwind,” it knocked me back but it didn’t knock me out. “Now time to end this.” As he raised his sword that voice I heard from before said, “NOW! Use the shield,” as it said that I pulled the shield from my back and blocked the attack without any recoil from the force, “What?! How is this possible?! How can a human block my attack?! Wait, is that the Shield of the Gods!” “The Shield of the Gods, well no wonder it was the hardest of the four legendary weapons to get.” “Well it not like you figured how to use it properly, so I have nothing to worry about.” “Well I don’t have to all I have to do is defend myself from all of your attacks and attack you when you’re open and I’m pretty sure that you are already tired from fighting my friends.” The monster lord looked shocked, he knew that I was right, he was tired from fighting all of my friends and I just barely started fighting. “Even if I’m tired I can still defeat you!” We continued fighting and during the fight my friends started to wake up, “Hey Red do you need any help with that?” “Alvarez, so you woke up already, come on I could use your help.” “Hey can we help too?” both Big and Little Jesse were awake again too, “The more the merrier.” All of us then fought the monster lord until everyone was to the point of passing out. “This… battle… has gone… far enough, time for my ultimate attack.” As he charged his attack, the voice appeared again, “Quickly you must use the built up energy the shield has saved due to the monster lord’s attack.” “How do I do that, all I know is how to absorb his attacks.” “All you have to do is punch with the shield and it will take care of the rest.” “Okay,” I ran full speed at the monster lord, jump and pulled back my arm to punch, “Are you that foolish? My attack will kill you if you I connect the attack!” “Well we will see about that!” Our weapons make contact and a huge explosion tears the castle apart, *shatter*, the monster lord’s weapon shattered and my shield made contact, “No!!!!”
Dust fills the room as my friends look for me, “Red! Red, where are you?” The dust clears and I stand victorious on the remains of the monster lord, now turned into stone. Little Jesse asked, “What happened?
