Elemental affinity test:

The next morning I woke up earlier than usual full of excitement and a little bit of fear, fear that I may disappoint my father. Still thinking of upcoming events I completed my breakfast in a daze, after my breakfast I dressed in official clothes of Elsevier family which are worn on important occasions.

Coming down to the great hall I was invited by the smiling faces of my mother and brothers. I hurriedly wished them and asked if I was late, it seems I was not. After some light discussion, me and my brothers headed out in a carriage. We were headed to the city of Corti which has the branch head quarter of church of light, it was at a distance of about four hours from our city of Reinfield.

On our way to the city of Corti we were sitting silently in our carriage, my brothers seeing my nervousness decided to keep quiet. To keep myself from going crazy I decided to mentally go through the information I learnt about elementals and how one is tested for their elemental as well as the degree of affinity one had for each elemental.

Elements are of only five types they are fire, water, wind, earth, and lightning. All the advanced, rare, or unique elements are basically derivatives of combinations of two or more elements. It is considered very rare for a person to have two basic elements, as for three elements they can be counted on fingers in the entire history.

The majority of unique or rare elements are produced due to different mutations in the individual leading to the production of the rare element but he usually doesn’t have control over the constituent of that particular element.

The basic elements are represented by five mythical creatures which are believed to have the highest control over each element thus becoming existences surpassing gods, but the elements do not have a consciousness of their own as they are nothing but a part of nature itself.

Fire is represented by a bird with wings large enough to cover an entire planet and body clad and made of fire in its most pure destructive form the legendary divine bird ‘phoenix’.

Water is represented by a whale large enough to compare with size of a planet, with a body emanating a divine blue energy which can cool down a burning star with just its length and breadth.

Wind is represented by a eagle fast enough to transverse through a entire solar system in a blink, with a body emanating a divine green energy which can cleave through anything with just its blades of wind.

Earth is represented by a giant tortoise with a shell impregnable by any force in the universe radiating a divine brown light which has a destructive power of a earthquake multiplied by millions.

Lightning is represented by a divine yellow dragon with scales of hardness surpassing any metals, eyes which can make a soul shatter, quickness like a lightning and destructiveness surpassing anything in nature.

All five elements are represented by a divine artifact each of its own colour, a person affinity with an element is measured by placing a person before the artifact which starts displaying the diagrams of divine beast’s, the higher the affinity more the clearer the diagram becomes.

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

If the diagram is represented by only lines which represents a person has a poor affinity, if the image is visible slightly then he has average affinity, if the artifact brightly glows then he has high affinity, if the artifact emanates a light of such radiance that it fills the entire room then the person has extraordinary affinity for an element

The minimum amount of requirement for a mage is at least average affinity in a element in additional to spiritual power at least average level.

While I was thinking of all these facts we arrived at the city of Corti, the reason I had to wait for one month for this testing ceremony was that the artifacts used to measure the elements were extremely valuable and highly rare only a handful were present in the entire continent, so they had to be circulated for the use of all because of this, only twice every year the testing ceremony is conducted in the branch headquarters of city of Corti.

Upon nearing the church we were treated with a sight of many people including commoners and few nobles patiently waiting for their turns. When our carriage arrived bearing the symbol of Elsevier family, the symbol is a huge Osthamus tree, all nobles and commoners stood in attention as we were a family of high nobility.

I got down along with my brothers and we went inside the church to register for the testing ceremony. The presiding priest told that we can immediately under go testing but my brothers declined saying that we would wait for our turn soon the amount of people tripled while we waited for our turn.

After an hour or so we were guided to the main testing hall it was a great hall at least as big as one in our castle with a circular formation in the centre and surrounded by five giant rock artifacts.

My turn finally came and I nervously walked to the centre of formation, upon taking my permission the priest removed the block on the formation which apparently is a mana channel for directing my mana’s into the artifacts.

Soon after the formation was initiated, the artifacts of fire and lightning started to glow, all the people who were watching as well as my brothers were ecstatic.

The fire became stronger until the image of the phoenix was visible which meant that I had above average affinity for the fire elemental, the lightning artifact began to glow till the dragon was completely visible as well as rock shined in bright yellow colour which made me very happy as this meant that I had high affinity for the lightning element.

James POV:

When Riddick went to the centre of formation all the people along with me and my brother were watching with dead silence, when two stones stated glowing I was overwhelmed by happiness as this meant that my brother was a rare talent, I was almost dissatisfied when fire affinity only came out to be above average, but was fully ecstatic when the lightning affinity was measured to be high as this almost certainly proves my brother will be a powerful mage.

Though he may not compare to those ridiculously strong mages with extraordinary affinity, he can still have a high position in clan now that he is a mage no one can oppose it neither the elders nor my uncle. Finally he will gain everything which was rightfully his, power and most of all respect.

As I was thinking of these things the priest asked my brother to move to a different formation which will measure his spiritual power which is the final hurdle to confirm whether my brother can be a mage or not.
