When things are not done properly they are casted aside.
Your last doodle that ended up in the bin is the best way to describe the way people were being thrusted away to another land.
If you did not come out right and the power you were given was unstable you were pushed aside. That's why it was called the outlands. Everyone there was an outcast.
But when done right you were forced to fight a battle that was only yours because of its principle. You were the thing they were fighting over and so you would fight for yourself and your kingdom.
Was it really your home and kingdom though if you never chose it? You did not choose to be yet here you are. A freak of nature and an imbalance to the system society had been built on.
Least that's what some people said.
There's always another voice that speaks differently. Some people loved the idea of people with brilliant powers. Like superheroes. Too bad the movies were right. Heroes even when trying to be good can be destructive.
Not that they were going around and stopping crime.
Rose leaned back in her seat. Her sight obscured as she put her hands over her face and dragged them down; she felt overwhelmed.
Lori put her hands on both of Rose's shoulders. “You good?”
“Just a bit of writer's block. I never thought writing about the life I currently have to live would be so hard!”
“Well, don't worry about what people say too much. Try your best but make sure it remains your voice. It will turn out fine keep with it”
Rose turned back to the laptop and nodded, pulling it gently shut and standing up. “I'm going on a walk.”
“You know you have to have someone else with you before just wandering around.”
Rose turned around walking backwards towards the door spreading out her arms with a smirk. “That's why I got you! So are you not coming?”
Lori grimaced. “God Rose, you're so pushy.”
Rose tilted her head. “You don't have to come if you don't want to. I'm sure out of the hundreds of thousands of bio-kid’s I could get AT LEAST one to come along with me.”
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
“Oh no no no no, you are not replacing me. I'm coming, but I'm not happy about it!” She caught up to Rose whom wrapped her arms around Lori tightly.
“You're the best!”
“You know it.” Lori said, warmly hugging Rose back. “Alright, now let me go!”
“We can go by newt stream so you can practice.”
Lori paused thinking about it. “Yeah that sounds good, not a ton of people there, it's a little ways away but not too far. I can fail in peace.”
“Hey you're still only 76 your on your baby steps for your powers relax yourself. Your practice though.” She said as they walked down the halls and outside. “Is going to make you absolutely incredible.”
“I don't like my power.” Lori looked to the ground rubbing her arm nervously.
“What do you mean?! Water manipulation is awesome and you're going to do incredible things.”
“But I'm only useful when water is around!” She gestured at the small trickling stream as they walked up to it.
“There is always water around. In the air and in us, when you get older I'm sure you will be able to use water no longer in liquid form.”
Lori paused thinking. “It is in us. You think I can use that?”
“I'm sure that you can, if it's in a fight or even in your day to day life.”
Lori smiled at Rose. “Thanks, that helps.”
“It's easier to see what makes other people special than yourself.”
Lori dipped her fingers in the water letting it travel up her arm in a small snake like tendril. Focusing on letting it move around her. “I suppose that's true.” the water suddenly collapsed falling to the ground to loris frustration.
“It's okay, just try again.”
“Like you tried writing.”
“I'm gonna get that done!”
“Yeah yeah sure you are.”
“I promise if you try again when we get back i'll try writing some more, but unlike you mine won't finish until i'm finished.” Rose twirled around and fell hard on her back sticking her tongue out pretending to be dead.
Lori laughed rolling her eyes. “Okay drama queen, i'll do it again.”
She held her hand above the water forcing it to travel up into her hand before throwing it at Rose.
Roses fiery hair was suddenly turned to a gross brown as water dripped from the ends. She slowly pulled away the strands in front of her face acting like a curtain. “Lori, if you were anyone else I would kill you.”
“Hah! But I have the plot armor of being your best buddy!”
“Don't test me! Your plot armor is wearing thin!”
Lori just hit her with another ball of water.
“OH MY… I WILL KILL YOU!”
Lori jumped launching another ball and running but Rose was prepared for that one she easily stepped to the side before running after her and tackling her to the ground the two of them rolling around as they struggled with each other but they couldn't help breaking into giggling balls of laughter. Covered in grass stains next to each other they looked up to the sky but in the middle of their line of sight was an annoyed blond man, his gray sky blue eyes glared down at them.
“Lori, that is an inappropriate use of your ability, Rose. I expect more from you. You're coupled together because you're older you should be an example to her.”
Rose rolled her eyes. “Okay but look Barry, she had more control than ever before. She wasn't paying too much attention yet she was water bending with no issue. Let sleeping dogs lie, we were having fun. It was good practice.”
Barry puffed out his chest looking down at Rose. “Don't talk back to me.”
Rose rolled her eyes standing up causing the man to back away, almost cowering. The man was in charge but only in title. Really the bioengineered people ran the show. If one of them acted out of line what was there to stop them?
Well there was some stuff to stop them, other bio-people. There were a few of them on campus but no one knew who was who. There were a few types that just were avoided now. Sadly.
Restricters. People that could pretty much turn on the off switch to your abilities.
People named after the funny solid-liquid Oobleck Where if you were covered in there slim and tried to act in anger it would solidify until you stopped. But you could still use your powers or attack people. As long as it wasn't in anger. These guys were less persecuted than Restricters.
