Chapter 6: A Promise Under the Full Moon

Memories of a Full Moon Night

Masato’s Consultation Schedule

Masato Matsuda, a psychiatrist, worked at the university hospital, handling outpatient consultations on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

The rest of his time was spent on rounds in the psychiatric ward and conducting research.

One Saturday morning, as Masato was organizing patient records, a knock came at the door.

“Come in,” he called out.

The door opened to reveal Akira Moroboshi, the 18-year-old musical prodigy.

New Memories of a Dream

“Good morning, Doctor. I remembered something new about my dream,” Akira said, nervously taking a seat.

Masato picked up his notebook and encouraged him gently.

“Go on. What did you recall?”

“In the dream, someone told me, ‘Come to the shrine on the day of the full moon.’ It felt incredibly important… I even think this shrine might exist in the real world.”

Masato pondered for a moment, then looked at Akira.

“You feel like your dream is connected to a real place?”

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“Yes, but I can’t clearly picture where it is. Still, I feel like I’ll know it when I see it,” Akira replied, his voice firm with conviction.

Masato nodded deeply.

“It’s worth investigating before the full moon. Let’s go together. I’ll invite Koizumi too.”

A Mysterious Experience at the Shrine

A few days later, Akira, Masato, and Satoshi Koizumi arrived at a shrine atop a small hill on the outskirts of town, guided by Akira’s memory.

“This is it… I’m sure of it,” Akira said, pointing to the torii gate.

Passing through the gate, they were met with an eerie stillness. The atmosphere was heavy with an inexplicable sense of mystery. At the far end of the shrine grounds stood a moss-covered stone monument.

As the three approached the monument, the sky suddenly darkened, and a strong wind swept through.

“What’s happening…?” Satoshi exclaimed.

The monument gleamed briefly, reflecting the moonlight with an intense glow that bathed the surroundings in white.

For a moment, they felt as if they were caught in the center of a storm. Then, just as abruptly, the phenomenon ended, and silence returned.

Masato steadied his breathing and murmured,

“This wasn’t just a coincidence… Can science even explain this?”

Reporting to Others

That evening, Satoshi shared the day’s extraordinary experience with his wife, Tomomi.

“Tomomi, you won’t believe what happened today… My understanding of science was shaken to its core.”

Tomomi listened intently, her expression a mix of surprise and curiosity.

Meanwhile, Masato contacted Misa Amano, a biologist and the wife of Sora Amano.

“Misa, can I share something strange with you?” he asked over the phone.

Her voice remained calm and analytical.

“What kind of strange occurrence?”

Masato described what had happened at the shrine. After a moment of silence, Misa began to analyze.

“That’s fascinating. Even if we assume it’s a result of specific environmental or light conditions, it’s unclear why the phenomenon is tied to the monument. There’s certainly room for deeper investigation.”

Misa, whose research focuses on the idea of evolution being a programmed mechanism, expressed a keen interest in the shrine’s mystery.

“Perhaps this could be another example of a mechanism encoded in nature itself. I’d like to join you on your next visit.”

Contacting Dr. Lee Wen-Chang

Masato and Satoshi also sent an email to Dr. Lee Wen-Chang detailing the incident.

Dr. Lee’s reply read:

“This is highly intriguing. I would love to join your next investigation. The full moon can’t come soon enough.”

Preparing for the Full Moon

Masato, Akira, Satoshi, Misa, Tomomi, and Dr. Lee began planning a return to the shrine on the night of the full moon.

Each of them worked diligently to prepare for the phenomenon, driven by a shared determination to uncover the truth. As the full moon approached, so did the promise of unraveling the shrine’s deeper mysteries.
