CHAPTER 1

“The coldest day of winter so far and they have me out here freezing my ass off hauling these stupid expensive grills”.

Today is just not my day, first they ask me to come and work on my day off and of course my stupid ass accepted. Then they put me out here in the cold by myself pulling this stupid big order off the truck. As I was working and trying to think warm thoughts a place like Miami, I heard a voice echo out from behind me.

“If you have enough time to complain you’re not working hard enough”.

Of course, this idiot would be here now when I’m nearly done with the order if i

ignore him he’ll just annoy me even more.

“Well maybe if you helped with me this, I wouldn’t be complaining so much Marty”

“I am helping I’m managing from the back”

 It is entirely too cold outside to be arguing with that man, I'm only here for another 2 hours anyways. After finishing up with the order outside I was back to stocking items within the store. Not even 5 minutes later and I had received a call from my mother.

“Hello mother, I’m at work so watcha need”

I can already tell she is gonna be supremely annoying my son sense is tingling.

“Never mind the fact that you said watcha, you have clearly been down in Rion too long. Zac are you still working for minimum wage at that dinky little shop. If so, I still don’t understand why you work at that place when you have a de-”

Before she could go any longer, I hung up the phone I had heard this talk too many times and whatever the original reason she called for would be texted over whenever she calmed down from me hanging up on her. My life shouldn’t matter to her anyway. I have my own place while being self-sufficient. Damn, I can’t wait for this day to be over I already confirmed last month I was going to have 4 days off. Just as fast as my excitement for clocking out went up. It immediately got doused, for some reason whenever You think of something good happening at work one of the bad managers comes. This time of course it was Marty who tapped me on the shoulder.

“Ahem… Bossman told me you’re taking the next 4 days off huh”

I can already tell he is leading too asking a dumbass question, nobody in the world starts off a conversation like that unless they want to ask a stupid question.

“Marty why are you asking stupid questions you have access to the schedule and the boss himself told you so you must be seeing and hearing correctly unless your deaf and blind”

“That attitude and smart mouth on you is why you’ll never be promoted beyond being a sales associate. Anyway, I assume the reason you’re taking these days off is because of the new game coming out?”

I promise people like this need to be smacked why can’t he just get straight to the damn point he knows all of this to be true. He is wasting my time by asking me these dumb ass questions.

“Well Zac I’ll take your silence as a yes I’ve worked with you for a bit, so I know you like to get straight to the point, I also wanted to play this game, but I have to be here because a bunch of people called out”

See this is why he came over he wants me to give up a day or two so he can play because he didn’t plan ahead. The game was announced over 3 months ago anybody with a brain would know to try and take off at least 2 months in advance so of course my reply came swiftly  

“If you think I’m going to give up even one of my off days I will shove my foot up your ass, there’s no way I wouldn’t do this for one of my best friends let alone you. So, if I were you, I would go get one of the children for the store and go try to sucker them out of an off day”

After saying what I had to I turned away and went to go clock out. If you could hear emotion, I promise you he would be pissed. Riding the bus home was slow but free. While on the ride I started to tune into some of the different gaming news channels any new advantage over the competition is preferred.

“Well, hello there it’s your favorite Vtuber and personalities Reigner69 otherwise known as reign and Applessmile420 we are coming to you live from the Hub as many of you know a new game is coming out tonight, we’re only 1 hour away from the launch of the highly anticipated Monsters Resurrection Online otherwise known as MRO. Well, I have a question Apples why is this game so highly anticipated. Well, reign why wouldn’t it, first and foremost the game is gonna be in virtual reality which currently is a must for multiplayer games to be successful. Well, first the game is hype because it's free that’s right folks if you haven’t heard about MRO it's free. Come on Apple that’s not entirely true the game is free but if you would like to you can subscribe to the game.”

‘HA” As those words left his mouth, I outright laughed most people could barely afford one or two pods in their homes let alone a monthly subscription to this game. The only ones who can subscribe to the game are filthy rich its fucking ridiculous. They expect me not to complain too because they are giving us a damn good-looking game as well. But fuck em they are most definitely going to give us the end of the shit stick. I... ACK I've been missing the stream.

“I know what that gives you’re wondering. Well, you become an adventurer. Well, what are you if you play the game for free you ask well first and foremost Anybody who doesn’t play the game as an adventurer is a monster that’s right folks you’ll be playing as the proverbial villain of the story? What’s even better is that the time dilation for this game is stronger than any we have seen so far as of right now we have been told it will be 24 hours real-time equaling 2 days in-game….”

Damn my phone plan disconnected from the internet just as they were getting to the good parts. Next time I’m choosing folks that are faster at talking or something. the bus took another 15 minutes before I got to my stop and another 10 min walk from the station to my apartment. Once I got in shoes came off at the front door and walked straight to the living room. Wasn’t very far to get to I do live in a 1 bedroom that is lackluster I mean it’s nothing to write home about but it’s not total trash. The only thing in the house that looks like it cost way more than anything else was a pink and gray structure taking up a full corner of the living room directly beside the couch.

After taking off all my clothes and taking a quick dry bath I walked over to the pod and stepped directly into the middle of it. Pulling down the mask at the top of my pod over my head and onto my face while securely latching it on.

After this, I pressed the initialization button which closed the pod blocking all the outside world. then the liquid started pouring in all around me not like water because it was too thick but just as clear I closed my eyes as the special gas started pumping through the mask and I was off to the hub. Upon waking up was surrounded by lots of people within the    hub. The gathering place of everybody as I was sitting there, I could finally see the countdown clock for MRO. With only 5 seconds left to spare and my finger hovering over the MRO Icon I finally saw it.
