I was currently on the way to school. It’s in the middle of the town.
School starts at 8 AM, I woke up at 7.45 AM. The school is pretty strict as it doesn’t allow anyone to go in past 8 AM. It’s a thirty minute walk from my house to school. I guess I could say that I’m pretty much late at this point. Realizing that, might as well take a detour on the way there. I took a left turn when I’m supposed to go right.
I walked for a few more minutes before stopping by what seems like an antique shop. I opened the door, the bell chimes greets me. I never get tired of the smell of books. I usually stop by here when I’m out of school, but now since I’m late it’s also a perfect chance to. I strolled down the aisle, only to be greeted again, not by the bell chimes, but by someone I fairly know well.
“Hey Lancaster, rare to see you here at this hour.” Greeted him with a smile I faintly saw on the corner of my eyes.
He was sitting on a chair behind the counter, tea on top of it while reading a book.
“Oh hey Jamie, good to see you.” I greeted him back on reflex.
“What brings you here?” He asked with sincerity.
"Oh, I'm just.. uh.. totally not skipping school, yes. I'd say I'm searching for a particular book." Yeah, definitely can't lie to this guy.
"What book is it? We might just have it in here. Also, can't always be a goody two shoes huh?" He smirked a little.
"Let's see, it's called 'Reverentia', just happened to see it while I was surfing the internet one time. Don't know the other details about it."
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"Quite the mythic aren't you. It's fortunate that you're here, wait a minute, I'll go find the book."
Now I must say I know nothing about the book, but it piqued my interest so there's nothing wrong with checking it out.
"Sorry for the wait, here it is."
"Ah thanks Jamie, how much is this?"
"You don't need to pay for it, accept is a token of courage for skipping school."
My eyes lit with excitement but also feeling embarrassed.
"Guess I'll have to take it and skip school entirely then, thanks a lot."
"You're welcome, come again if you may." He waved and smiled at me.
Can't say I don't like that guy. He's my type but he feels out of my league.
1. He's way older than me.
2. He's the type to attract other girls if you were to go on a date.
3. He's goddamned flashy.
Heck, he's even shining.
I went straight my way home after saying goodbye. It's only 9 AM and I realized that my mom would be pissed if I go back now. So, I only did the logical thing available
Go back to the store.
Literally.
Here I was, walking back to the store.
Jamie saw me, seems like he wasn't all too surprised about it.
"Hello-"
"Let me borrow your attic." I cut him off.
"It seems like I don't need to ask why you're here again then, make yourselves at home." He laughed a little.
"Sheesh, can't be helped alright." And so I went to the attic.
Now you might think that the attic is just the general attic. Rundown. Dirty. Dusty. Whatever.
But this, this one is actually livable. Why? Because Jamie lives here.
So this, is technically his bedroom. A nice one on top of that. The smell of wood never fails to calm me down. He doesn't have much stuff in his bedroom, a pretty simple guy compared to how mine looks like.
Well just gonna drop this here.
It looks horrendous.
Things and stuff everywhere, books on the floor, bed sheets untidy.
I slump down on the corner of his bed, opening the book I just got. 'Reverentia' a Latin word meaning 'Reverence' in English. A gesture indicative of respect. Sounds pretty suspicious but oh well.
I opened the book and it was the turning point of my life.
