The introduction of the gaming company Warp caused havoc around the world. Millions of dollars worth of games sold in record breaking time were recorded worldwide. The introduction of VRMMORPG games caused thousands of gamers around the world to empty their pockets just to play.
Damian, one of these empty pocket gamers was sitting in his unkempt room staring at the only source of light shining on his above average looking face. Toes tucked in, he stares at the countdown located on the computer screen counting down from 0:54 to 0:53.
Aether, the soon to be released technology breaking VR games server was about to be unleashed on the world. Thinking back to the 5 beta testers that tried out the game live for an hour, he couldn't help but wonder what it felt like for those lucky bastards.
He remembers back to when he watched live as they entered the world of Aether for the first time. The visuals oozing with reality combined with the reactions made by the Players created a huge hype train he felt to be justified. The last game he played did create the same reactions but they were nothing close to what was made when he saw those visuals. He only hoped that it felt as amazing as it looked.
Snickering followed by a small cough, Damian readjusts himself in his seat and hovers his hand over the return button on his keyboard. His arm stiff and his fingers lowering, he waits for the countdown to end. Thinking back on the other VR games he registered to play, he realises that this is the only time he's been this adamant about trying to play a game early.
Damian has always loved games. When he found out he could make games himself when he was a high school student, he never left his house for months which worried his mother until she found out the reason why. He holed up in his home creating and publishing short shooter, platformer, and other types of games at least twice a month. You might think the quality must have been bad, but from the reviews made by the players, it really wasn't.
When he played the first VR game made by Warp, it blew his mind. Although the quality wasn't amazing as what one would expect for a game costing millions of dollars for development, that didn't matter since it was a VR game that shouldn't exist with today's technology. Damian knew about what games should look like using the technology already available, so when he used his money he made with his own games to try it out he couldn't help but wonder what secrets Warp was holding.
When the announcement was made by Warp that a number of first to register players will be given a special prize for Aether he couldn't help but smile at those obvious money greedy developers. To try to get more people to buy the game using prizes, shame on them! Well, not that he cared because he was definitely going to be one of those prize winners.

He smiled to himself before pressing his return key as the countdown ticked to 0:5. He wasn't so overhyped that he registered at the wrong time, no, he just activated his personalised auto clicker. He laughed as he watched multiple pages refreshing and being registered to multiple times before coming to a complete stop as the words 'Register Complete' was plastered on them.
Kicking his chair forward, he frowned before slumping his head down on the desk when he saw he was the 100th user to register. How could he be the 100th registered user when he planned to be the first! He scowled at himself for forgetting that he didn't have the best internet since he was using the universities free wifi.
Looking back up he eyed the words 'Congratulations' in gold turning his scowl into a smile before turning back to a frown as he realised that it was probably just a consolation prize. Sliding his cursor over new button generated on the screen before clicking on it and revealing the full glory of his prize.
Either a special class or some mystery prize? Thinking about whether choosing a special class would be better than a so-called mystery prize he shook his head and decided to go for the random box. If there was a special class he could probably just unlock it eventually in the game, they wouldn't make it only available for a few 100 players right? Besides, everyone knows that mystery prizes are always better.
Double clicking his selected choice, he frowned as his screen displayed the words 'Are you sure?' in front of him as if mocking his choice. He clicked away again before it continued with its mockery as a new window asking 'Are you really really sure?'. If someone's going to choose something you offer, why would you ask them for their choice twice?
He sighed as he finally got his so called mystery prize that will be revealed when he logs in. Getting up and stretching, followed by a few cracks he jumped onto his bed staring at his poster of Aether plastered on the ceiling. Returning to his good mood, he tucks into his blanket and equips his personalised VR safety standard helmet. Who the hell just slips on their VR helmet with just a shirt and short pants during winter without some sort of blanket on, are you an idiot?
Flipping the switches on the side of the comedically called metal bucket, he waits for the synchronising process to complete before entering a new world of adventure. A beep sounds out before Damian's vision cuts out before light pores in as if he's just exiting from a dark tunnel. A female voice sounds out,'Welcome to the world of Aether' before a window pops up notifying that all character customising has already been completed.
Swiping it to the side, Damian's face fills with joy as he once again enters another world filled with adventure and only this time it's 10 times more realistic! Now, let the fun and glory begin with Damian being the centre of his own world as he slays monsters, saves princess's, and becomes the strongest!
Yet, it doesn't really go down like that in this story now, does it?
