Millions of stars glowed in the sky, like a woven blanket of diamonds. But such a sky could only be seen from where Kai was at. Sitting in the tallest tree of the Kingdom, Kai stared at the sparkling stars and smiled. The stench of blood was thick around him. Yet there was not a hint of any emotion in his eyes.
It was summer, and the skies were clear, yet not many people could see its beauty. The buildings of Wren coupled with the lamps would prevent them from witnessing such a scene. Unfortunate.
After burning his bloody clothes earlier, he decided to take a little stroll, enjoy the night and celebrate. Below him, the streets of Wren were still as busy, noisy and sad. He could feel the people's anxiety behind the smiles and loud singing. Despite this, he couldn't hide the huge smile on his face.

If Kai had the money, seeing all this would have made him so happy. The mushrooms that he could summon was unique, something he had never heard of before when he was still Thaddeus. It was deadly and pretty useful too.
But he had none.
The only way, he would be able to earn in this new world is to either join a family, the federation or a school or reveal his abilities and thread the path that Thaddeus used to before he died. Kai glanced at the people on the streets.
It was already an hour past midnight and the people outside didn't decrease. Many of them were hunters, who just arrived from the missions that they took. While some were just women who wanted to earn some extra cash to survive.
After a few more minutes, Kai jumped from one branch to another until his feet landed on the ground. The cold air made him shiver. He gripped the edge of his cloak and pulled it closer towards his body. Then he made sure the hood would cover his face, only showing his chin.

After walking around, he spotted the shop. Central Shop Potion Supply.
Walking inside, he casually inquired about the cauldrons. The shopkeeper took him to the second floor and showed him the cauldrons for beginners. Without bargaining, Kai paid for a high-quality cauldron before leaving the shop.
"Someone was killed?"
"I heard it was a rich young master."
The whispers in the streets surprised him. He arched an eyebrow. It wasn't even an hour yet and it seems that everyone in the streets already knew about the murder?
"Who was it?"
"I have no idea! I heard the family already called the Federation asking for their help to capture the assassin."
"How did they know it was an assassin?"
Kai snorted inwardly as he listened to the hushed conversation of the hunters walking past him. With his current clothing, many thought he was just another regular hunter looking for some fun. The Wren Kingdom is located in between two other kingdoms. Having travelers was considered the norm in the City.
He slowly walked past the taverns and into Hunter's building before he put his ring back to his left ring finger. After making sure that no one was around, Kai climbed on the walls and went straight into his room. When he arrived, he immediately removed his cloak and changed into a clean set of clothing. Then he removed his ring once again.
Staring at the ring, Kai sighed. The current leaders of the Limited Summoner Federation were claiming that it would make summoning easier. It would also help the Summoner have more control of their contracted entities by using a special type of contract.
Ten Thousand years ago, Kai and the Ancients used to call this contract a Slave and Master Contract. Now, everyone called it the Normal Contract. Apparently, this was the safest contract out there as it would not harm the Summoner even if the contracted Entity would die in this world.
This was bullshit.
Kai knew that controlling an entity that the Summoner didn't defeat on their own hands would be more difficult than something that the summoned subdued all by himself. This was just a part of the law of nature. One needed to defeat the summoned entity in their Psyche before having a contract with them.
For some reason, this wasn't included in the history books that he read since he was a child. In fact, the history ten thousand years ago wasn't included in any books. Her grandmother said that it was lost. That the books were burned for some unknown reasons.
The Federation said it was to protect the people and everyone believe it without asking anything.
After getting rid of the thick smell of blood around him, Kai sat crossed leg on the floor. He looked at his clothes on top of the single stool before putting it in front of him.
For a long time, he stared at it.
He only had five sets of clothing and tonight, he was about to burn two of them. Including his only cloak. As a poverty-stricken person, this is a big dilemma.
After another sighed, he opened his palm and summoned a fire element as big as a pea. Elementals could summon different types of elements. There are only a few rules that they needed to consider before considering doing this. First is the fact that Elements are part of the environment. Unless they already practiced the ancient prayers for each element, they wouldn't be able to summon them.
And once they try, the risk of losing control and being attacked by the element that one summoned is pretty great. It was dangerous.
The second thing is to have a strong psyche. Elements are formless. One could summon huge waves of water when they only wanted to summon a glass of liquid. Or summoned a hurricane when they only wanted some air to cool themselves. Again, you cannot tell the elements what to do. You cannot form a contract or control them.
Meaning, dying while summoning something that is very hard to control is just… natural. Elemental Summoners are rare for this reason.
He used the fire to burn his clothes, making sure to manipulate the smoke by summoning the element of wind.
Watching his clothes burn before him was a little depressing. Now, she needed to buy new clothes! Except he didn't have the money for that.
Well… technically he had money on him right now. But he needed these coins. He needed it to summon his peculiar mushrooms.
Just thinking about his money-grubbing affinity made him depressed. To survive, he needed to pretend to be someone that could only summon plants. In his case, someone who could summon mushrooms. However, his mushrooms are just different—too different.
And greedy.
Yes! Definitely greedy.
