Chapter 2: Assessing the current situation

Chapter 2: Assessing the current situation

“Phew, I think I’ve rested enough...”

I went near the corpse of the wolf that I defeated and started dissembling its body. Though my hands were unskilled and clumsy, being able to do this was already enough. As for the reason why I knew this, it’s because back when I was young, my father would often bring me to hunt small animals as a sport.

A hour had passed when I finished disassembling the wolf. I then used a random stick to pierce the pieces of meat and dangled it on top of the campfire I lit earlier. Since I couldn’t eat an entire wolf by myself, I used earth magic to make a hole and buried the rest of it.

Crouching near the campfire, I wrote runes to prevent wild animals and monsters from approaching. After writing the runes, I sat near the campfire.

Silently watching the fire dance.

...

...

...

“Hmmm?”

Wafting the smell of burn meat, I removed my gaze from the fire and quickly removed the stick of meat from it.

“Haaaa~ Damn it.”

I cursed as I saw the piece of overcooked meat.

“I shouldn’t have spaced out earlier.

...

Oh well.... Might as well eat this.”

I opened my mouth wide and bit the wolf’s meat.

“!? DISGUSTING!!!”

I shouted to the heavens.

“Disgusting.... Disgusting.... Disgusting...”

I continued to repeat the word ‘disgusting’ every time I bit, chewed, and swallowed a piece of the wolf’s meat.

“.... I’m never eating wolf’s meat again.”

Throwing away the stick that I used to pierce the wolf’s meat, I vowed to myself.

“Yawn*, it’s already getting late.... Let’s sleep.”

I removed a part of my clothes and folded it to make a pillow. I then laid on the ground and slowly closed my eyes.

----------------------------------------

“Waaaaah!!!!”

I shouted to the top of my lungs.

“Huh?”

Looking around my surroundings, I noticed that the wolf was nowhere in sight.

“heh... Hehehe... So it was dream, hehe.”

As I laughed at how scared I got because of a dream, I noticed my hand holding something.

“?... A sword?”

Crackle*

“.... A campfire?”

Rustle*

“Trees?

...........................................................................................................................”

My head became blank.

“I must still be dreaming.... Un... That’s right. This is just a dream. Hahaha, a dream. Let’s wake up.”

Since I was knew that I was dreaming, I decided to imitate one of the things that some characters in some shows would do to wake up from a dream..

Pinching my cheek.

“Ouch!

...

Huh? Let’s do it again.”

I pinched my cheek again.

“Ouch! Uhhh.... This time for sure, I should be awake.”

However, I was still in the middle of the forest.

“Hehehehe....”

I laughed powerlessly as I slowly accepted reality. Standing up from where I laid, I paced around the campfire..

“Let’s assess the situation first.

Right now, I’m in the middle of a forest. That’s a sword. That’s a campfire. That’s a tree. That’s grass. That’s a purple moon.”

I pointed and started naming every little thing around me. Though this was a pointless, I didn’t have anything else to do.

“Wait just a minute!”

My thoughts stopped as I realized something.

“Why’s the moon glowing purple!!!”

I stared at purple moon and compared it to my memories.

“Yup, it’s definitely not the moon that I know of.”

Then, I realized that something glowing in the corner of my eyes. Creeping closer to it, I discovered that the cause of the glow was a small scribble.

“How does this patch of earth glow? Is this artificial? Huh?”

As I reached my hand towards the scribble, something in my mind told me that it’d be dangerous if I tampered with it. So I stopped moving my hand and crawled away from the scribble.

“.... Purple moon.... Glowing ground..... Could I perhaps be in a different world?

Hahaha... There’s no way that that’s true.... Hahahaha.”

I laughed again as I dismissed the ridiculous thought.

“Maybe I’m just hallucinating.... Un... That’s right.... For now, let’s calm down and trace back my memories.”

I returned back to pacing around the campfire.

“Okay.... First, I woke up, washed my face, brushed my teeth, changed my clothes, ate breakfast, and went to school.

Un, so far so good.

Then, along the way, I met up with Kaname. I talked to Kaname and then I realized that I forgot my textbooks so I turned around and ran towards home...

Huh?

What happened next?”

I rubbed my head as I concentrated.

“Mumumu..... Ahhhh! That’s right! A blinding light suddenly appeared from my side and then I was blown away by something.”

....

“....”

...

“....”

...

“... Did I perhaps, die from that?

Nononono! If I died, how come I’m here!?”

I became really confused and my thoughts started to go around in circles.

“Hmmm? Hiiiiiiiii!”

I shrieked in reflex when I saw the wolf that I had thought of as a dream.

“Don’t eat me.... I’m not tasty.”

Closing my eyes out of fear, I covered my head using my arms .

....

However, no matter how long I waited for my inevitable end, I wasn’t attacked.

“....Hm?”

Slowly, I opened my eyes and observed the wolf.

“....”

I warily approached the wolf. I picked up a burnt stick near the camp fire and poke the wolf.

“!!!”

When I poked it, I quickly ran behind a tree and observed it again.

“Phew~ it’s was dead.”

Since I was quite confident that the wolf was dead, I went closer to inspect it.

“Uwaaa... It is big! Hmmm?”

Sniff*

“The smell of fresh blood still lingers from it.”

A thought then came up in my head as I observed the wolf.

“So that part with the wolf was also not a dream. Did someone rescue me or something?”

Moving my head from left to right, I saw nobody. I moved towards the bushes surrounding me and still found no one.

“There’s no one here but me. Hmmmm.... maybe I when my consciousness was cut earlier, My instincts kicked in and I managed to kill the wolf.”

...

“There’s no way something that convenient could happen. Hahaha!”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

I laughed at the thought that floated on my head.

“Phew... since that wolf’s dead, let’s focus on more important things.”

Me dying.

“Hmmm... Where was I?

...

...

Oh yeah, I was worrying if I really died at that time.”

Switching the gears of my mind back, I started analyzing that light that blinded me and that force that blew me away.

“Did I die because I was hit by a car or something?

...

Thinking about it calmly, that’s the most probable case.”

I nodded to myself.

“Next thing on the llist is that purple moon and that glowing ground over there.

...

Since earth doesn’t have a purple moon, I may have been reincarnated into a new world.”

...

...

...

...

...

“REINCARNATION IS REAL!!! WOOHOOO!”

Since me being in the middle of a forest with a purple moon, that glowing scribble on the ground, and that fur of a dead wolf is already illogical. I switched off my common sense and use the logic of some fictions that I’ve read on the internet.

And the conclusion that I made with that logic was ‘Reincarnation”.

“Since this is the case, maybe I wasn’t hit by a car. I was hit by the ‘Reincarnation Truck-sama’!”

I was using my internet logic to its limit.

“Hmmm... Let’s think of what template I am in.”

Rubbing my head, I swam through the sea of memories looking for a story that fitted my current situation.

“Is this the Seirei Gensouki template or the Kenkyo template?”

I looked at my body and concluded that I was around 14 to 15 years old.

“Hmmm... I wish there was something that I could use to look at myself. Ahh! That’s right.”

I picked up the sword that I dropped and unsheathed it. I was planning on using it as a mirror.

“Let’s see what I look like.... I have pink colored hair that’s tied into twin tatils, I have golden pupils, and my face looks quite cute.”

Seeing myself, I found a story whose first chapter situation were kinda similar to mine.

“So it’s the Ragweed Princess of Ribitium template huh....”

Being in the middle of a forest and having someone save me from certain death, my situation really was close to that story.

“Nn! I’ll thank my savior once he comes back! But just waiting will be boring.”

My gaze turned towards the glowing scribble.

“I’ve been suspecting it for a while now, but could the reason why that scribble is glowing because of magic?”

With that in thought, my curiosity towards it and of magic increased.

“Well, since I’m in another world, there has to be magic!”

I pumped myself up as the thought of becoming a mage filled my brain.

“First things first, how do I use magic? In some stories, the worlds with magic either have status screens like in VR stories or have a convenient thing known as mana floating around. I wonder which one this world is.”

Since I had a lot of free time, testing out which kind of world this was could prove to be a good time-killer.

“Open! Menu! Status! Status Open! Menu Open!

Hmmm.... So this isn’t a game like world.”

Since waving my hands and shouting keywords to open screens wasn’t working, I decided to stop.

“Then, this world must be the one with mana.

...

So how do I use mana? Should I meditate to feel it first or something?

....

Oh well, no harm in trying.”

I sat in a lotus position on the ground near the campfire and started meditating. I breathed deeply and exhaled slowly. Repeating this, I felt a water like substance surrounding me.

(Could this perhaps be mana? It’s kinda thick, I wonder I didn’t feel it earlier. Oh?)

As I was feeling the mana, I felt something warm from within my body. I concentrated my thoughts towards it with a thought that that something was my inner mana.

However, I was wrong.

As I continued to concentrate on that war feeling, what I found wasn’t inner mana, but a soul, but because this was my first time feeling a soul, I had decided to pry in deeper.

“So this is the feeling of my soul?”

Flicker*

The warm feeling that was being emanated by the soul flickered a bit. Being curious, I tried using my thoughts to mold my supposed soul.

[Nnnnnn.]

A voice resounded in my head as I molded the soul.

“Huh?”

Hearing the voice peaked my curiosity further, as such, I decided to mold it even more vigorously.

[Who the hell is disturbing my sleep!]

My arms suddenly started waving in front of me.

“ooooh!”

I sighed in surprise as I observe my moving arms.

“Who’s there?”

My mouth moved on its own and asked a question.

“Ummm... No one’s here you know.”

“huh?”

“There’s nobody here but me.”

“Where are you hiding from! Show yourself to me!”

As my mouth demanded me to show myself, I realized something. What I felt earlier wasn’t my soul, it was the soul of this body’s owner. This meant that I wasn’t reincarnated into a different world.

In some religions and stories, there are some lines that says that within our body, a soul resides within it. Once that body dies, the soul is then sent up to heaven. In my case, my soul was sent to a different world. What’s more, my soul had possessed this girl’s body.

“How do I explain this...”

“!?”

In response to me using her mouth to talk, I felt my body tense up in surprise.

“I’m inside of you.”

Since I didn’t know how to convey my realization, I only managed to spit out a vague answer.

“What do you mean by that?”

“I’m the soul of a girl that died in a traffic accident and for some reason, I ended up inside of you!”

Because my answer was so illogical, my mouth could only open it’s mouth wide in astonishment.

“With that said, let’s get along! My name’s Kaname Ichinomiya! What’s yours?”

“....”

“...?”

“WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON HERE!!!”

The owner of the body screamed in confusion instead of replying to my introduction. Who’d blame her though?
