The tall blond man stumbled out of the party and took an elevator to the ground floor. The door opened, and he walked to the guarded entrance of the imposing lobby. Eldritch security guards watched the man as he made his way unsteadily from the building.

At street level and out of the Retrograde building, Karl Anson slowly walked to the twin towers, reflecting pools. It had been a rough party, and the world was swimming. He stood by a pool and watched the water, hands pushed deep in his coat pockets. Eventually, he turned and looked up at the façade of the Retrograde building. Far up, near the top, a row of office lights glowed despite the late hour. He was going to have to make peace with Robert, perhaps tomorrow. He walked to the street and hailed a taxi.
