Chapter 1

Awaking a Beast in despair (0)

You know what?

Being weak is a huge sin. Yes, you may think it isn’t but it was different for us who lives in a chaotic world ‘mostly for civilians like us.’ Every day was struggle.

Migrating from one place to another, avoiding from the never-ending wars of many nations and races, or from the bunch of powerful enigmatic beast… We tried our hardest to avoid being drawn to war.

‘If any higher ups of any nations find us then they would force even an elderly to join the war.’

They defile the women’s innocence for pleasure, or use them to breed children for wars.

Kids were trained to be coldblooded, they were trained to kill and the weaker ones were treated as a slave and some was used as cannon fodders for wars.

There’s no place for leisure and only chaos, as if the world was a big wide cage. The world was like a paradise for the evil and wicked, ‘a complete freedom for them.’ And because of these traits, many great beings often called this world as [Prison Paradise] which is means, ‘a paradise inside a prison.’

‘Does humanity still worthy of saving?’ I often asked this question to myself.

But, I still believed it, or did I really?

However it just proved of just how naive I am. Since that day… the day I lost everything I loved…

-Less than 4 hours before the slaughter calamity-

As I walked through the huge Whispering Forest, a group of flying knives was launched towards me from any direction.

“Huh…!”

But of course these were just like a child’s play for me. Although I can’t avoid it, but I could decelerate its speed with my unique ability as long as it’s a metal.

Whoop! Whoop!

-Parry

Whoop!

Knives continuously flying till it were finally stopped. The forest had begun to be silent strangely. I stopped my foot and stayed in one place, and alerted myself for any possible incoming attack.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

I suddenly felt an ominous feeling on my back as I turn my head to…

“W-wha… wai...!”

I tried to make it to the timing to avoid that fist but…

‘Why do this fist suddenly begun to looked many times bigger? Illusion…?’

Crash! Roll! Bum!

‘Oww…! Damn! I thought I could avoid it.’

After I was trampled by that damn fist, the pain on my body multiplied but thankfully I didn’t have much of a serious injury.

Huff! Huff! Huff!

My left arm got dislocated from the time I tried to parry that fist.

Ugh! “…damn! How could you not hold back, even though to your own son dad?”

“…hmm? And why do you think that I would let you slack off if you know that we are living in a chaotic world?”

Crack!

I didn’t notice my dad as he approached from my blind spot. He relocates my dislocated arm.

“Oww! You’re not a gentleman!”

“…Really? I thank you for that compliment.”

“It’s not a compliment! And there’s no way the soldiers would find our village. It’s much hidden and this forest is very large.”

The mood suddenly became serious. “…”

“I hope that is, son but there’s nothing such as permanent place in the whole world…”

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

‘Dad…’ “…Whatever, let’s go and get the boar that we hunted. My stomach is about to devour my whole body.”

“Fine… let’s go!”

The Great Whispering Village was the 37th largest forest of the Graesilika continent and was the 13th from the most dangerous area in the whole continent due to the appearance of many enigmatic creatures. Even though it’s dangerous but we believed that the most dangerous area was also the safest.

Lie En village, one of the four hidden village hiding in the wide Great Whispering Forest. This village was composed of 12 families so it was the smallest out of the four villages. After one and a half hour of venturing the forest, we finally arrived at the village and as usual, the villagers greeted us warmly while doing their everyday work.

The boar that we hunted today was a rare Dreyd Boar.

It was the most nutritious boar in the forest as this was a boar that has a both characteristics of a plant and an animal. They eat sunlight as a food or a grass when there is no sunlight but this boar was the most easiest to rot when it’s not cleaned.

“Oh… Josh! You’ve got a big hunt today huh?”

“Haha, it’s all thanks to my son’s help.”

“So… your son has already started hunting?”

“Yes, it was his first hunt, in fact today was his 14th birthday.”

“Oh…Really? Then, could you call your son here? I have something to give him.”

“Hmm… sure…Zoran!!”

I was cleaning the boar when I heard the shout of my father echoed through the whole village as he called my name… ‘Ah, seriously… just how loud my father is?’

Huff! Huff!

“…Why did you called me dad?” huff!

“Ah, you’re here.”

“The village chief wants to give you something. He said you go to his house; just leave that boar on me.”

“Okay."

The village chief house was located at the upper right side of our house. Each house has a distance of 6 to 10 meters away for a personal use plot, and because of the presence of dangerous beasts in the forest we planted the whole surrounded fence an herb called ‘Steral’. This herb has a repellent effect and would cause anyone who eats this to hallucinate with their worst nightmare. Thanks to this we got no problem in dealing wild beasts.

Knock! Knock!

A little boy opened the door holding ‘a ladle?’

“Brother Ran! Do you need something?”

“Ah, dad said that your grandma was looking for me. I heard he want to give me something…”

“Oh… right! Today was your birthday, right?”

“Yes…”

“Happy birthday bro…! Then please come inside…”

“Okay. Thanks.”

“Then please follow me bro.”

We walk through the kitchen and climb the ladder until we arrived at the front of a room.

“This was my grandpa’s bedroom, he was inside…”

“Thank you.”

“Then if you may excuse me… I’ve still got something to do.”

Knock! Knock!

“…Ran! So you’re finally here. Just open that door, my hand was full.”

“Then I’ll get inside…”

Kheek!

I pushed the door and went inside, there I found the village chief checking his cabinet.

“I’m here gramps.”

“Oh, perfect timing!”

He grabbed a necklace from the shelves and gave it to me.

“Here, take it.”

“What is this gramps?”

“It’s an artefact.”

“…what? An artefact!! Are you okay with this gramps?”

“Yup, just take it. You’ll need it more than me.”

“…Really? Then than, thank you gramps.”

“Haha, what a humble kid… I’ve got when I was on an adventure, if not for this then I would’ve not here talking to you.”

“Ah, I’ve remembered you told me a story on how you miraculously survived from a gigantic meteor and a hundred stabs of arrow piercing your body.”

“Oh, so you still remembered that stories huh…”

“…Of course! It was a nice story, mostly the story on how you hunted a flying blue lizard that breathes ice and freezes anything on its path.”

“Oh, that lizard was very strange; any forms of fire, heat or explosives cannot get close to it or it will vanish…”

Gramps was a chatty one and he started to talk many new stories about his life and his stories were very interesting so I’ve stayed for a while and listen to him. The talk continued for about an hour until my dad called for me.

“Thanks, for the stories gramps. It was good and very interesting.”

“Hmm… If you say so, and you’ve already heard all the stories I could tell.”

“…right, you’ve already told me how you end up here and why you decide to stay here…”

“…in that case how about increase my birthday gift for you?”

“Its fine gramps, I’m already good with just this…”

“That too bad… I’m about to give you everything inside his cabinet…”

“I’m really fine gramps.”

“Well then, just find me if you’ve changed your mind.”

“Haha... then I’ll take my leave now gramps”

“Take care.”

Grandpa Chief was sure a kind guy, and even if we didn’t share by blood, I still treated him as my real grandpa. He was very lonely, that’s what I’m sure of and that’s why I always staying on his house listening to his stories when I was still little. He was living alone no, he lives with his grandchild (?) ‘Its boy who I’ve met earlier which name is Alfa’ but I still couldn’t get rid of the creepy feeling since I’ve notice that he never get aged and never shows any emotions, but its fine since I don’t feel any hostility from him.

It’s already almost dawn so I decide to go home with my father. I can’t wait to see what gift I get on my 14th birthday. Well speaking of gift, I’ve got a cake given to me by Alfa and this artefact I got from gramps. Father said this artefact was called ‘Miracle of the Saint’, which said was comes from the bone finger of purest saint, a saint that only sinned less than a hundred times or so was said in the stories.

‘But still it was a beautiful necklace with a beautiful carving… too bad; the 2 tiny gems here were reduced into shard and only the one in the center remains.’

Smack!

“Ouch! What was that for, dad?”

“It’s because you’ve just dazed there and did nothing, I thought you were dead or something.”

“Huh! What If I really was dead dad?”

“Then, I would die laughing. How could my son just die like that? I’m sure it’ll be so hilarious.”

“Tsk… whatever, let’s go I can’t hold my hunger anymore.”

“What a shitty gluttonous bastard… but why are you still so fit?”

“I know, and mom was so jealous of it. My mom’s appetite was similar to mine but she was afraid to become fat.”

“Haha, your mom was still so fat when I met her. I’ve even called her piggy by instinct.”

“…really? I didn’t know that. Good thing that mom didn’t kill you.”

“Oh, I was half dead at that time. Good thing you’re late grandma arrived or I really was dead.”

“What a shitty lucky bastard.”

“Hey! Where did you learn that foul words? I did not remember anyone teach you that…”

“You did! You’ve use that earlier. Don’t tell me you’ve got amnesia?”

“Oh, I see… looks like I’ve got amnesia.”

“…”

It was a fun conversation with my dad, but I didn’t know that it’ll be my last.
