The next week passed by quickly for Raven, as he decided to start calling himself such, worked in the fields. He was amazed still at how much nicer these parents were compared to his old ones. His mother always made breakfast in this world, not leaving him to figure it out for himself. His father helped home with things he needed assistance with, instead of just shooing him away. It was a sobering experience for sure. Regardless of his surprise for that though, he was even more shocked at some difference in the system, compared to the normal game.
One day whilst working on the fields a system notification popped up in his view. Rewarding +1 Endurance, he had just stared at it for a long while. He had gotten an attribute upgrade for just doing work! That was crazy! Especially when he could raise his Endurance, which in turn would increase his health. He had thrown himself into working harder, even doing extra work like cutting wood, and caring for the animals. Though he quickly noticed it took a lot of effort to gain a single point. It took him another three days before he got another bonus. Rewarding +1 Endurance, [Luck Bonus Triggered, Rewarding additional point].
‘So Luck can function a little differently as well..’ he thought to himself. It was like he was playing the normal game, but with new additions. He was getting a little worried though, as he has yet to receive an option to choose his class.
He did, however, receive another welcomed surprise at the end of the week. A system notification, stating he had completed a quest he didn't even know he had.
Quest Complete!
Another Week on the Farm!
- Complete a Week on the Winter Family Farm
Rewards:
* 50 EXP
* Rank 2 Farmer
A small feeling of power rushed through him as he achieved his first level up, before being bombarded by a series of notifications:
System Notification
Level Up! You have reached Level 2, rewarding 2 Attribute Points [Luck Bonus Triggered, Doubling Attribute Points gained]
Rank 2 gained in farmer, rewarding Rank 2 Farmer feature:
Rank 2: A farmer is never down for the count when there is work to be done! +5 Health.
Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
He breathed a small sigh as he read through everything, nodding to himself. The Rank 2 Farmer feature was a nice help. Ranks that increased health were pretty rare and every point mattered, especially to him right now. What was really a blessing, and a curse, was his Attribute Points. He leveled up and only gained a measly two points, but doubled them with his Luck bonus. The problem was...even the weakest class got 5 Attribute Points when they leveled up, like all classes did. Now, when he got doubled he still got less than a normal player. He shook his head, he had to do something soon unless he was content just being a farmer forever.
He decided to save his points for now, while he decided what to do next. While lost in thought he felt the strong palm of his father slap into his back.
“Come on son! Let’s call it a little early today. I’m tired, and with all the extra work you’ve been doing we have more than enough to be a little lazy.” he explained with a toothy smile. Raven gave a laugh and nodded as he tossed the tool he was using aside to be retrieved at a later time.
From there it was a normal night for the Winter household, dinner and then hitting the hay for an early start the next morning. Raven usually stayed up a little later though, he was used to long lonely nights at the hospital so it didn't really make him tired the next day.
“I have a lot of information about the lore and world, I could try going to clear some low level dungeons..but it would be hard. My class and equipment need to be at least newbie status to do well in those places” he sighed to himself quietly, maybe if they had a good harvest they would gain enough coin for him to take some and set out. That’d be another few months though. He shook his head, what to do after that anyway though. If he survives one hundred years will actual players start showing up? Will he get to see himsel? Too many questions, not enough answers.
His eyes went wide suddenly as the system window popped up in front of his face, except instead of the normal light blue it was a dark red:
Quest Started
"To Be a Hero’"- Legendary
Protect the Winter Family and Farm
Rewards:
5,000 EXP
10 Attribute Points
Rank 1 in Unique Rank [Hidden]
Luck +5
“What?!” he shouted loudly. This was ridiculous for a few reasons. A Legendary Quest was a super rare phenomenon that was usually a World Level Main Story Line, they had impossibly strong enemies for the area, and could affect the world as a whole based on how they were finished. Rewards also scaled with the level of the player, so the higher the level the more benefit for completing the quest, he was only level 1 and these rewards were preposterous for his current standing.
He could hear his parents rousing from his scream, he quickly looked around and out the window to see if a giant, or a dragon were coming.
“What kind of enemy could cause a Legendary Quest...it doesn't matter..I can’t fight it, we have to run” he said, spinning around and starting to hurry towards the door.
A loud voice shouted from outside, accompanied by an explosion of fire as the fields outside were caught aflame. The screaming and squealing of animals, even the stupid rooster was in pain.
“Winter family! Please come on out so we can have a talk!” the voice said, though whoever it was didn't seem to want to wait for a response as the front door exploded inward from some kind of extreme force and three figures rushed in with armor. Easily grabbing him and his family as they were still trying to figure out what was going on.
