Prologue: The Beginning of an Adventure

Damn this planet to hell!

Ezra slammed the front door as he expressed his foul mood through thoughts. He stormed through is one bedroom apartment and jumped right in bed. He shoved a pillow over his head and attempted to go to the land of dreams with his clothes still on.

“What an awful day,” he finally said to himself. “First I get fired from my job for a mistake made by my coworker, and then I left my wallet on the train home. As if a deity was saying that I deserve even more suffering, my tenant wants be to move out in two weeks. What a shitty life.” And on that thought, Ezra fell asleep...

Or he would’ve, if the ground below him didn’t begin shaking. Picture frames fell from the walls and drawers emptied their contents. The ceiling began to crack and threatened to collapse at any minute.

“I just jinxed it,” Ezra stated, launching himself out of his bed and ducking underneath it. As he was settling in the cramped area between the bed and the floor, a ray of light beamed down, cutting any substance in its path. When it reached the floorboard Ezra was laying on, it began spinning at rapid speeds. Within an instant, Ezra was no longer underneath his bed, but was instead inside an unfamiliar room.

Looking around, Ezra noticed unknown writing on portions of the walls. The walls themselves seemed to also be made of a substance that he had never seen before. Slowly, he got off the ground and began to explore. The room was huge, he believed that three basketball courts lined up side-by-side could easily fit with room for an audience.

As he started heading towards a portion of the room that looked like a door, a static-filled voice began to play in his head. Ezra looked around for a moment, but no one could be seen. After a couple seconds, the voice that was broadcasting directly to Ezra’s ears began to become clear, and he started to interpret the message.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Welcome, species from the milky way galaxy. You have been chosen for a game. It can also be called an experiment, but I believe “game” sounds more fun. You may decline now, but the outcome may not be so favorable for you.

“Wha-what would happen?”  Ezra answered , seemingly to the air. He was terrified and more importantly, confused. He had no idea what was going on, but he knew that it didn’t feel like a dream.

The voice paused for a second, and then continued, answering his question.

Then you would cease to exist. We would have to pick out another specimen from the Milky Way, but not many fit the criteria and doing another lottery would be troublesome. I do hope you cooperate. Now if you may, please turn to your right.

At that moment chest-shaped box covered in mysterious markings hovered down through a newly opened hole in the ceiling, which closed shortly after. Once reaching his waist level, the box opened up.

Inside, you should see a transreceiver. Plug this into your ear. Your species should have ears, right? Anyways, this will allow you to universally understand and speak to any species, regardless of how developed. You will need this in just a bit, so don’t lose it!

As he was plugging in the transreceiver, Ezra noticed his five senses had increased. “Is this some sort of added effect?” Ezra pondered. As if reading his mind, the voice continued:

As you may have noticed, your senses probably increased. The transceiver usually enhances species with low sensing capabilities, this is all normal. It might a bit weird getting used to it though. Anyways, enough rambling, it’s time to bring to the game world. Good luck!

Ezra noticed the beam of light which transported him from his bedroom again, and on that note, his story began.
