Refitting

As their feet finally hit the cool, sandy ground, they all breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, they were out of the hands of that strange organization, for now at least.

Amity collapsed onto her back, breathing heavily for just a few seconds before sitting back up.

“So, are you all okay?” She asked.

“Well,” Himiko responded. “I’m missing a lot of my blood. Katie almost died, Raleigh had to help her after you left. Kaiya has marks on her arms from those shackles and scratches and bruises across her entire body. All of our clothes are torn and stained, and I think we all need to go to sleep.”

They all sat around for a few beats, until Kaiya spoke up.

“I, uh. I know somewhere we could rest, and get clothes too.”

They all looked at her.

“There’s an inn, somewhere on this island… Problem is, I have no idea where we are.” She continued. “Actually, I do. Wasn’t there a map in your guys’ capsules?”

They all responded affirmatively.

“We’re near the southwest corner, right?”

Everyone nodded.

“Right, so a bit to the east, there was a plaza with an inn and some stores. Silva used to give me a bit of money every day to get myself anything I needed, but I always saved it.”

Amity interjected. “Wait, what is the money here called?”

“It’s actually just the normal dollar, in essence. 100 cents in a dollar. I would get 50 dollars each day, so I think I have a few thousand saved up?”

Himiko expressed amazement at that, but Raleigh didn’t believe her.

“Show us proof. No way you have thousands saved.”

Kaiya reached into her pocket and pulled out a small piece of plastic, which she unfolded and pulled a few yellow bills out of.

“Here, that’s proof.”

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

In her hand were a few 50 dollar bills, covered in yellow with Silva’s face on them. On the back, there was small text along the top that read “5000 cents.”

Raleigh leaned back.

“Dang, that’s impressive. Better money skills than they teach us in school.”

“I had a finance class 5th hour.”

“Ah.”

They made a bit of idle talk for a minute or two, before Katie said something.

“Hey, shouldn’t we get going? Near the entirety of my outfit is red, and most of you all’s is too.”

“Oh, actually, yeah. Lets go, it’s that way” Kaiya pointed to the east, based off the wind direction.

They didn’t have to walk for 10 minutes before spotting it, a large area made mostly of stone with several stores and a large inn in the back corner.

“So, I assume we’re doing clothes first, then getting some sleep?’

“Yeah, probably. We can’t exactly sleep in these trashed clothes.”

Amity led them inside to a shop, named “The Queen’s Fashion and Accessories!” with a sign labeling it as “Going out of business! 50% sale!”

She remarked, “Ironic, if it was truly the Queen’s store, surely she’d have enough money to keep it afloat.”

They all laughed, before stepping into the cool store.

Immediately, they were greeted by a life-size cut out of the queen, with a sign to direct you to the right section, a “Boys and Men”, “Girls and Women”, and “Human Unisex” text near its corresponding arrow.

Raleigh shuffled into the boys section, Kaiya and Katie into the unisex, and Amity and Himiko to the right, the girls area.

They each shuffled around the shelves, finding a new outfit for everyone.

Amity got a black dress with white frills around its base, as well as a new pair of white knee-high socks, and replaced the pin in her hair with a pentagram pin.

Himiko also completely revamped her style, picking a pair of jeans, a new crop top, and a new pair of slides.

In the boys section, Raleigh found a pretty similar outfit to his old one, only notable differences being that he dropped the scarf and grabbed a new blue-adjacent shirt, although all his red clothes were just a little off in terms of shade.

Kaiya picked up an outfit bag, a bag with a pre-made outfit, the same one she grabbed when she was here ages ago to get her prior outfit.

Katie ended up switching her look almost entirely, with a new, darker brown tank top and blue sweatpants. Some new gloves, too, black gloves with no fingers.

They all met back up, commented on each-other’s clothing choices, then went to purchase them. All in all, the entire trip only ended up costing around 150 dollars, barely a dent in Kaiya's savings.

As they walked out of the store, new clothes already being worn, Amity got Kaiya's attention.

“Hey, Kaiya. Thanks for buying us new clothes and stuff, feels good to not have crusty blood on my back.”

“No problem! I needed new clothes too, I’ve been wearing the exact same clothing for 4 month…” Kaiya replied. “We should go rest for a bit, then work out how to get back home.”

They all stepped into the inn, paid for enough beds to fit them all, and fell asleep. Before Raleigh was able to sleep though, he checked his phone, and realized that it was still showing as 6 AM. On the 20th.

They got here on the 18th.

He decided to put it down for now. It was running low on battery anyway.
