Chapter 10: Understanding
“Okay partner what’s the little plan you have going?” Erika asked excitedly already relying on their newly founded partnership. Well at least Aeden was glad she was doing better than she was a minute ago. He held up a hand trying to calm Erika’s enthusiasm. He needed a little time to review his own stats first because he remembered hearing a dinging sound during their fight. He also needed to review more about the system they were working with. Depending on what it did and how it justified their rewards it would help determine on what to do with the working theory he had in his head at the moment. Aeden got himself comfortable sitting on a fallen tree and opened his log screen.
Log

For surviving several small wounds, you have received +1 CON…
For defeating several enemies in a row, you have received + 1 STR, +1 DEX…
After several repeated actions paralyzing opponents with unarmed skill, you have learned the subset move [Stunning Strike]: This move paralyzes a singular entity for three seconds. Increase unarmed skill to increase duration...
If he had to guess, he probably earned it when he kept striking all those goblins in the head.
Congratulations you have ranked [Unarmed] to level two. With each level up you do extra damage with each strike. Ranking up [Unarmed] also increase the effects of move-sets as well...
Congratulations you have ranked up to level two all attribute points have been allotted…
Aeden never really liked unarmed builds, but this skill was already proving to be very useful, at least until he could find something better.

Aeden was still a little disappointed that he didn’t have a class to make full use of his levels compared to Erika who got extra attribute points thanks to her [Dancer] class. One of Aeden’s personal goals was to get as many attribute points as possible but if he was gonna be traveling with Erika, he would have to put that on the back burner until he could receive a class. If he was lucky that is. There was one more thing he wanted to check. Since they were operating under a system and this system seemed to offer information, maybe he could find more. He thought back on a few multiplayer games like MMO’s and RPG’s then thought of one specific word, ‘help’. A new tab appeared on the screen that said the words Help.
Then he heard another ‘ding’.
For being the first of your species to create a new facet of the system you’ve been awarded +1 INT...
He was getting tired of switching back and forth between screens so he wondered if he could customize the screens like a UI. He put a finger over the log button and dragged it to the right side of the screen and a new window opened. He dragged it then placed it in the lower right of his vision. It was a small window that said log and new notification…
For being the first of your species to customize the system you’ve been awarded +1 INT, +1 WIS…
At least the system was generous with the points. He then returned to the help screen. Some small rolling text appeared saying…
Welcome to the Help screen the system will provide as much information as it can allow.
Well, that was already good information to know. At least it was living up to its name. Now that he was here, he was having trouble thinking of a question to ask. It was hard thinking of something pertaining to it so he would start by asking about where they were.
‘Where are we?’ he asked in his mind.
Unable to answer, since several races have different names for this place the system is unable to answer.
Well, that answered a question he had for later if there was other intelligent life. That led to a different question even if it was a somewhat dumb question since the system just told him the answer.
‘Are the creatures in the ruin AI’s?’
No, these are other races that have been transported here over millions of years.
Well shit, those goblins they faced earlier, did show a modicum of intelligence. As he looked around, he thought of a new question.
‘How large is this world?’
Computing… roughly this world is 1.8 million times the size of your planet.
Aeden nearly choked on his own spit and started coughing.
“Oh my gosh Aeden are you okay?!” Erika asked worriedly. “I’m fine, just uhhh… A fly threw in my mouth.” He pounded his chest a few times trying to get his breathing under control.
That was the size of the Rigel star. Well, if this system was collecting doomed species, I guess it needed a place to store them all and somewhere where they could potentially thrive. But still, with that size it would take 43.2 million years to walk this place in a straight line.
Now he could move on to the system itself. ‘How does one earn a class?’
Classes can be earned by self-discovery or having a good understanding of said class. You can also learn by apprenticing someone that has a class. Classes can also naturally evolve with higher proficiency in said class. There is no limit to the number of classes you can have. Some classes can also be combined into even more powerful classes.
‘Is it also possible to learn skills by apprenticing?’
Yes, if a class does not forbid the learning of said skill.
‘Is there magic!?’ He was really hoping this thing would say yes.
Unable to answer. Too many conflicting variables to properly answer this question.
‘So, it’s a maybe’ Aeden thought to himself. He would continue to hold out hope. If he ever could learn magic, he really wanted to learn lightning magic. If there was magic maybe he’d try to build a spell blade type class. He smiled amused because he felt like a kid again. He shook his head and focused back on the task at hand to learn as much as he could.
‘Are there items that can add permanent abilities or modifiers?’
Unable to answer. The system itself doesn’t provide ‘items’ that permanently increase abilities
‘Can you tell me anything about the creatures back at the ruins?’
Unable to answer, please specify.
‘Can those goblins use the system?’
All creatures can use the system however, system may appear different to different species.
That was a worry thought. If every creature was able to use the system in some way, shape, or form. There could be creatures that could have near godlike status in this world. Just on physical ability alone like that dinosaur-esk creature or if they lived for thousands of years.
‘Even though I already got a description of titles, can you expand further if possible?’
Titles are given only through major feats or events that affect the world in some way. Based on the title the more powerful they are they can even affect the world around the individual.
Dang these titles sounded like powerful things, but they also didn’t sound easy to get either.
‘One last question. Are we controlled by the system in any way.’
No, the system is just a way to display one's ability and tool to help the species that come here survive. The system will not compel you to do anything. Live as you see fit.
Goodbye.
Aeden let out a deep breath. He got a lot of useful information about the system and even the world itself. The part that everything used the system worried him, but he would have to save that for later. He now had to focus on the here and now like surviving to get to that point about worrying about mythical godlike creatures. Aeden took in a deep breath then he steeled himself.
