Chapter 1 - Divine punishment

Chapter 1 - Divine punishment

"Argh!" With a dying scream, a demonic figure is thrown aside. Through the smoke rising from the ground, a figure with a brilliant shine steps forward. He had a radiant atmosphere, a beauty that would shatter the concept of beauty anyone could know of. Most importantly, six wings grew from his back, akin to the shining sun in the sky, glowing and magnificent.

"Argh!" From the unseen smoke, a roar erupted, and another demonic figure rushed through the mist toward the angelic figure, a giant magical shining sword equipped in its hand.

The angelic figure's pupils twitched and turned toward the demonic figure.

Bang!

Suddenly, the demonic figure felt as if he had been hit by the hand of a giant, thrown away without the angelic figure even lifting a finger.

"Out of my way, you lowlife, you ugly, disgusting scum! How dare you try to touch the flawless and superior body of mine?" The angelic figure placed his foot upon the fallen demon, who exclaimed in a pained voice as if he were being crushed by the weight of the whole world.

"Now I've decided a disgusting existence like you doesn't deserve to live in the same world as me." The angelic figure pressed his leg down, and the demon's body sank into the ground from the pressure.

Hmph!

Swish!

The wings on the back of the angel swung, and the smoke in the atmosphere flew away and dispersed, revealing giant walls as high as the limit of the sky that surrounded the area.

In one of the walls, there was a grotesque and deformed demonic figure, its body burned and injured. It was impaled by a giant holy sword, which also pierced the wall, pinning the demonic figure to it. In front of this giant demonic figure stood a female demon observing the angels.

"Haa, why must I bear this burden alone? No, this is how it should be done. As the most powerful and beautiful archangel in heaven, I must rid the world of these evil existences by myself," muttered the angel.

"Now, are you going to make me wait for you to finish that?" The angel cast his gaze to the female demon in front of the large demonic figure.

The demoness hurriedly bowed to the angel and then gazed toward the large demonic figure. She lifted her hand to the sky, manifesting a sword as giant as the one that had already pierced the demonic body, though not as divine as the sword that had already struck it.

"Eliana, why? My queen, why must you betray me like this?" The giant demonic figure, none other than the mighty king of demons, asked the female demon, who was none other than his own partner.

"My dearest, it's not that I didn't love you, but in front of a beauty like the archangel's, how could an inferior being like me resist his will?" the female demon said as she thrust the sword through the chest of the demon king.

"Argh!"

A roar spread through the air as the sword continued to pierce despite the king's cries. He gazed at his partner, but the female demon had no expression despite witnessing his death.

"Damn you, archangel Ezekiel!" the demon king uttered in his last moments.

----------------------------------------

On the night of a certain village, a sudden ruckus began to spread as all the newborn children started to cry.

"Why... why don't I have milk?" a mother cried out. She was not alone; throughout all the houses, the mothers of the newborns cried out in pain, lacking the necessary milk to feed their children.

High above the sky, through the clouds and stars, there stood a floating castle.

Splash!

A wave rippled through the thick pool of milk as a woman, with smooth skin and energetic beauty, bathed in it.

With every splash she made, a few drops of milk fell out of the bathtub. Each time this happened, numerous maids brought jugs of milk to fill the tub again.

The woman's hair resembled the sky of a dying sun, a deep orange in color. It spread across the bathtub, shining and gleaming with every drop of milk it absorbed.

Clip-clop!

The woman opened her eyes as she heard footsteps behind her. The sound rang in a distinct tone compared to the maids serving her.

"Isolde, why are you here at a time like this? I quite dislike being bothered when I'm taking my bath," the woman said to another angelic woman who approached her.

"Calista, are those milk from humans?" Isolde inquired.

"Human or not, what does it matter to you?" Calista replied.

"Calista, I'm here to warn you. You have been causing numerous catastrophes across the human realm for far too long, and some proudful countries are now only left in ruins. It won't be long before the higher-ups notice your wrongdoings."

"What's the biggest deal? Those humans must be thankful to me. I mean, in their pathetic existence, when will they ever get to serve an archangel like me?" Calista said in a careless manner.

Isolde's facial expression remained unchanged upon hearing Calista's words.

"I'll remind you, that energetic and youthful figure you're so proud of. If you become so obsessed by it, it will be the first thing you lose."

"Isolde, we might be friends, but if you dare open your mouth one more time, my patience will run out. So get out of here now, out of my sight. Let's talk about these useless things when I'm not busy," Calista exclaimed.

Isolde remained silent. After looking at Calista for a few seconds, she took a step back and turned away to leave.

"You and Ezekiel, the two of you have crossed the line of heaven," Isolde muttered as she left.

"Tch!" Calista heard the words as Isolde departed. Stretching her arms and legs, she settled comfortably back into the bath and closed her eyes.

When Calista reopened her eyes, she found herself in a land of sand, a deserted landscape. And she was not alone.

"Urgh, what the... Where am I? What happened to those demon freaks?" Ezekiel exclaimed in confusion.

Calista glanced around the area, only to see the desolate land stretching out before her. A sense of unease settled in her heart.

"Hmm, aren't you Calista?" Ezekiel inquired.

"And aren't you Ezekiel?" the two angels easily identified each other.

"Do you know where we are?" asked Ezekiel from Calista.

"I'm not sure..." Calista began to reply, but suddenly, from the ground, giant pillars began to rise toward the sky. The earth shook violently with their ascent, causing Ezekiel and Calista to lose their balance and fall to the ground.

"What's happening?" Calista exclaimed, looking up at the pillars. On top of them, she saw a shining ball of light appear. In the next moment, her eyesight was blinded by the brilliant light emitted by them.

"Argh!" Calista barely managed to close her eyes against the blinding light.

"Why... what's happening... argh!" Ezekiel also looked up and was blinded by the lights from above.

"Archangel Ezekiel and Calista," a voice echoed from the top of the pillars.

"Despite being honored as the strongest and most beautiful angels in the heavenly realm, the two of you have committed sinful actions that tarnish your trials. Are either of you regretful for what you did?" asked the voice.

"What? A sin? When did I ever commit a sin that deems me unworthy of my title? The only thing I ever did was to get rid of these inhuman freaks!" exclaimed Ezekiel.

"Tell us, Ezekiel. What crime did those non-humans commit to deserve your punishment?" asked the voice from the pillars.

"They... they're a disgusting bunch. These inhuman, ugly bastards are polluting the world with their sickening presence, so I had to get rid of them to purge this world from evil and cleanse it. In fact, you all should be praising me for what I've done, not questioning me!" Ezekiel burst out.

"Enough," the voice from the pillars commanded, and a sudden force pressed down on Ezekiel, forcing him to the ground, kneeling toward one of the pillars.

"Archangel Calista, do you have anything to say for the crimes you've committed?" the voice from the pillars asked.

"I... I don't... I don't know what you mean," Calista stammered.

"You have been ravaging the human world, taking their treasures and their livelihoods. More than that, you have been robbing mothers of their maternal milk, leaving the newborns to starve, which has caused the devastation of humankind in the past."

"And you've done all that to keep your skin more youthful," said a voice from the pillars.

"Those humans should be thankful to me because of me those pitiful existences got the opportunity to serve a higher being they could never even dream of," Calista exclaimed.

"Enough," the voice from the pillars commanded, and Calista felt a huge pressure upon her head, forcing her to the ground, kneeling toward one of the pillars.

The two of them, Calista and Ezekiel, struggled to lift their heads, but the pressure from above was far too high for them to imagine.

"Other than the two of you, there won't be anyone deemed worthy of the titles you've been wielding. But the way you two have used those titles is not fitting for them. And for the sins you've been committing, all of these have led the high authority to decide to bring judgment upon you."

"Ezekiel, you've been causing destruction to the non-human beings, bringing them to the brink of extinction. These beings did nothing wrong, and the highest authority deems that no one is superior or disgusting; everyone is equal. For the sin of causing destruction in one race, you will be reborn as the same race you've been hating the most," the voice declared.

"Wait, no, no, you're joking, right? Me... turning into one of those... bugs? No, this is humiliating and disgusting, I can't..." Ezekiel's body began to shine, and slowly, he began to transform into a deformed and grotesque creature.

"No, this can't be happening. I can't live like this. I'd rather die than this," Ezekiel suddenly grabbed his throat and began to strangle himself. He struggled to breathe, but he didn't let go of his hand, and within a few minutes, he fell to the ground.

Calista looked on in horror at Ezekiel.

A deep silence spread through the atmosphere for a few seconds...

Suddenly, from one of the pillars, a light descended toward the body of the deceased Ezekiel and enveloped him. Then, the process of transformation began again.

"Now, Calista, for the crime of leaving humankind to be reduced to a mere fifty million of population, and for craving the unnatural youth, you are hereby punished to be born as a human on the brink of death," declared the pillars.

"No, please, I won't do any of those things again, please let me go!" Calista exclaimed, but her body began to shine, and she began to transform. At the same time, she began to vanish from the air.

She looked toward Ezekiel.

"Shit, since we two received punishment together, let's go together," she ran and grabbed Ezekiel. The two of them slowly dispersed from the space like a mist.

After the two disappeared, the atmosphere became quiet again.

"Are we going to discuss something else or what?" a voice from the pillars asked after a while. But no response came.

"Wait, did they already leave?"
