Hello! It's been four months since I first published Dicemaster, and three months since I uploaded its first chapter. I normally would've kept up with my original release schedule of MWF for this fiction, but it is solely because of my planning that I could not keep up with my schedule and ended up burning myself.
Why drop it?
I wrote in the dark when I was still working on this story. I had no idea where the story might lead, and it was one of my greatest mistakes that I learned. The first two chapters underwent major changes during that time that kept me from building a backlog: A tense change from first-person present to first-person past, A massive need to rewrite the prologue chapter, and not being satisfied with the branch of story I was building up to.
To elaborate on the latter issue, the first two chapters tell of Naruki getting killed by a goddess, receiving a unique class that acts more like a handicap than a power-up, and getting reincarnated. In that world, he gets attacked by a bunch of monsters and gets saved by a girl inside a dungeon he fell into while killing the monsters from the fall. That's where the latest chapter ended. This is the part that became so restrictive for me: In a dungeon setting, only the characters' progression will benefit from it, not the world.
From my perspective as a reader, I don't think I'd fall in love with this story when all the current cast is doing (if I decide to keep writing Dicemaster as it is) is fighting monsters, discovering the system, and gaining more skills. "Why would I want to keep reading this dungeon crawl arc when I don't know how impactful their supposedly overpowered skill is to the world?" was the idea that kept tugging my mind and gave me the definite fact of "I started this story wrong." I would have to tell, not show, to deliver that question I had in mind.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
What now?
I love that while writing this announcement, I found out I still had the passion to rewrite this story and maybe continue it as well. However, it will stay dropped. I am currently writing a new series I call "Tower of Yggdrasil," and its main genres are Tower Ascension, Progression Fantasy, and LitRPG. As of the time of writing, I've outlined four volumes across 10 different arcs. The world and power system are built. Four chapters have been written; only three are edited and ready for release. I am taking my sweet, sweet time writing this story to ensure that I can say, "Yes, I loved writing that," even if it does not turn out to be a success.
Why not write both Dicemaster and the new series?
I struggle with writing two novels simultaneously, so I would have to focus on one before another. Yggdrasil for now, then, depending on how it goes, I will rewrite Dicemaster by then.
When will you upload the new series?
Most likely in October. If I manage my daily word count and get help with editing, I might be able to release it much earlier. I am so excited to share it with everyone, and I am itching not to release that first chapter right now--but everything must be in place first. If you want to stay up to date on the release of that series, consider giving me a follow!
Until then, I will stay in the dark and focus on writing. Have a good day!
