PROLOGUE

From the moment we were born, we were already alone.

Atleast, that's what I, Annojou Saki, have always believed in.

Ever since middle school, people always say that they couldn't even notice me even if I was just beside them.

As soon as they saw or got aware of me, they act surprised like "When are you here?" Or "Were you just there a second ago?" Its written all over their faces.

Even when I try to socialize, at first they are welcoming. But as time passes by, the people hardly ever noticed me again.

This continued on until my first year in highschool. As soon as I try to talk to other students in my first year, (I was a transferree) I usually got shunned off or ignored mostly. I was like a shadow to them.

Even the teachers had a hard time looking for me when they called out for my name even though Iam just in front of them or at my desk.

Even though the other kids would just laugh it off but for me, it was very depressing.

Back then, I would be locked up in my room. Curtains closed and the room, dark. Then I will remember what my grandpa used to say to me when I was a kid. That from the moment we were born we were already alone.

That we are just creating an illusion through love and friendship so that we can feel for a moment that we are not alone.

He certainly didn't invent that quote, but the way Grandpa said it, my eyes sparkled. I was too naive back then so I didn't quite understand. But as soon as I grow up, those words are what finally helped me.

It was the end of the school day today. I was getting ready to go home when two girls are talking at the exit of the classroom. The left wore glasses and the other is a tall girl.

It was my classmates. I don't remember their names but it seems like they are talking about something. They are blocking the door so there is no choice but to go between them.

I gripped my bag tight. As soon as I got through between them, as expected they didn't notice me.

Well I already knew that this would happen. But before I leave, I managed to hear a little bit of their conversation.

"Oh right! Are we missing someone? Only four person is cleaning here it should be five. " asked the glasses girl.

"Uhm... If I remember correctly, Annojou-kun is still not here yet."

"?!"

As soon as my name was mentioned, I immediately looked behind.

"Oh yeah, I was supposed to be with them, cleaning the classroom today."

I muttered to myself not letting anyone else hear it.

I totally forgot about that. So that's why it felt like I was forgetting something.

I was so focused on waiting for the bell to rang and going home early that it slipped from my mind.

Im surprised she remembered my name or rather, remembered me at all.The classroom is already filled with my group that already started cleaning. I feel bad.

"Eh? What are you talking about Sae-chan? He is already cleaning right th--"

She pointed her finger at the very edge of the room. It was my desk.

"Huh?"

The sight shocked her. As soon as she realized there's no person there, her body froze.

"Hm? Whats wrong, Tomoe?" Sae asked as she looked at the direction Tomoe was looking.

"Oh. Thats his seat right? He was usually gloomy and dark. And for some reason, I rarely seen him."

"Y-yeah, but I... I swear he was already cleaning there."

"Huh? But Annojou-kun is not here yet. Are you all right?"

Come on. I just passed by not long ago, I said in my mind as I watch them. Looks like they didn't sense my presence after all.

"A-Anyway lets go find him. Im sure he is still inside the campus."

"Y-Yeah youre right."

I guess going back is not an option anymore. I was already outside the gate when I noticed them still running around the whole campus trying to find me.

"I should probably apologize to them tommorow."

As soon as I said that, I turned my back and continued walking on.

It was now 5:00pm and I was already beside the traffic lights waiting for it to become green. My apartment is still very far so even if I leave school early, there is still a chance that I will get home late.

When the traffic lights finally turned green, I feel a weird sensation coming somewhere in my body. Like something's bad is gonna happen. All of my human fur is standing right up as the breeze blows a chilly wind.

"Man its colddd..." I just presumed, hugging myself.

The sky was darker today too.

The weather forecast didn't mention anything like this in the news.

From the looks of it, its like there is a typhoon coming soon or something.

"I shoud've brought my umbrella."

Anyways, I didn't pay much attention to it and continued walking on the pedestrian lane.

As soon as I reached the central point, A bright light appears on my rear and It was gradually becoming larger and larger.

I turn to the side to find that a truck was charging towards me at a tremendous speed.

The driver was half awake. In other words, in a depraved state. It was the first time I encountered something like this.

I was about to run when I realized, it was already too late.

It happens so fast.

I was sent flying onto a concrete wall by a truck 50 times heavier than I was.

"Puhh.....!"

The air in my lungs was pushed out. Due to that, I couldn't utter a sound. But I wasn't dead yet. I could still see my body as It was covered in dirt and blood.

Due to the adrenaline rush, I quickly tried to stand up. But as soon as I thought of that, the truck appeared in front of my eyes again.

I was flattened like a tomato between the concrete ground and truck.

I felt a light behind me the moment I got hit.

I suddenly remembered the times I spent with grandpa.

Was that the rumored light of the flashback before death?

My vision gradually darkends as minutes passed by.

After that, my consciousness slowly fades away. soon, my vision is finally in complete darkness.
