Ch. 1 - The God Of Wolves

The night was getting late, the snow rained down, shrouded the valley in white and made the visibility worsened.

Rei puffed his breath while holding back the cold air that seemed to pierce his lungs on each breath.

Rei was still alert even though he had been crouching for hours with only a bolster mat and an AR-556 rifle on his shoulder aimed down to the tree lines across the map. Waiting for Gray Wolf who had been hunting for the past few days in Yukon Valley.

Alpha Gray Wolf, the big wolf is rumoured to have taken many lives in the Yukon Valley area.

It certainly tickled Rei's instincts as a hunter.  He felt called by nature to hunt this wolf.

Rumor has it that this one wolf pack was very ferocious and did not hesitate to kill outside  their territory.

His eyes never left the scope perched on the back of the rifle.  Rei was still vigilant and watching the line of trees that was about 500 meters in front of him.

As the temperature dropped even further, he began to feel his fingers go numb.  A little longer, Rei realized the risk of frostbite.

Rei began to think about ending the hunt, losing a finger to frostbite was the most terrifying scourge for any hunter in winter.

When he was about to stand up, Rei remembered his grandfather's words.  "When you think about giving up, just stay and wait. Patience is the key for a successful hunt!"

Rei refused to give up and crouched again. A few minutes later, the blizzard began to subside. The unpredictable mountain weather blew the clouds above and made the valley bathed in moonlight.

Rei's eyes that had been trained at night hunting could see everything clearly now.

From a distance, the howling of a pack of wolves could be heard.  This was the moment Rei had been waiting for.  A golden opportunity that would not come twice.

Rei loaded his AR-556 rifle with 30 Round Magazine of .223 Remington ammunition.  Then he opened the scope lens cover.

With his calculation skills, it didn't take Rei long to adjust and dialed the scope so that his shot wouldn't miss.

Very carefully he aimed at the direction of the wolves.

Not long after, a pack of wolves and a young deer were seen through the scope.  Getting closer until the wolves got into Rei's rifle range.

Seconds later, the poor young deer was snatched by the biggest wolf in the pack.

The huge wolf the size of a Grizzly bear pounced, tearing and snapping the deer's neck until it slumped limply.

The entire valley became silent and eerie, even the snow and wind stopped blowing.  Mother nature seemed to mourn to witness the departure of one of its creatures.

Rei watched the moment in admiration.  The hairs on his neck stood up because the atmosphere was so brutal but also so magical.

It was now or never, Rei squinted his right eye.

Once the target was locked in sight, Rei took a deep breath and held his breath to aim steadily.

From the scope, the wolf's head was right in the middle of the crosshair.

 Bang!  Bang!

Full of conviction, Rei pulled the trigger twice and the Alpha Gray Wolf fell from being shot right between the eyes and its body.

The other members of the wolf pack immediately ran wild when they heard the gunshots.

Rei was silent for a moment and kept aiming at the wolf he had shot to make sure the wolf was dead.

Five minutes passed, the valley was quiet and it started to get dark again because the clouds slowly covered the moon.

Rei immediately got up and went down to the valley to claim his bounty.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

The Alpha Gray Wolf lay with his head covered in blood.  Rei was impressed by the tenacity of the wolf who was still breathing despite being shot in the vital area.

This was the first time Rei had seen such a majestic wolf.

The silver wolf's fur was as smooth as velveteen when he rubbed the wolf's chest.  Rei could still feel his heartbeat starting to weaken.

Rei pulled out his Glock .45 ACP from his waist holster, cocked once then aimed at the wolf's head to finish the job.

Their eyes met and it was like Rei felt the beast's emotions. Rei could feel the emotion in its eyes.

As if the wolf didn't want to die dishonorably.

Rei realized that the wolf was trying to communicate through their souls.

Amidst their silence, a superstitious story flashed through Rei's head.  Legend has it;  whoever pierces the heart of a wolf, then that person will inherit the wolf's power.

Rei was not a superstitious believer,  Despite that, Rei locked and put down his gun into the holster.

He valued the valor of the wolf. Rei took out a dagger and stabbed the wolf's heart.

The beast then closed its eyes.  This time he put his life in Rei's hands.

Stab!

Rei stabbed into the wolf's heart without hesitation until warm blood oozed out from the dagger and wet Rei's hand.

When the ritual was over, Rei immediately started skinning the wolf and didn't realize the danger was lurking around him.

A moment later Rei saw the shadow of a pack of wolves in the tree line.  Rei pulled a Glock .45 ACP pistol from the holster.  Then he cocked the gun.

 Bang!  Bang!

Rei opened two warning fires to repel the wolves.  However, they did not leave immediately and instead barked and howled.  Their behavior was very abnormal, just like what people had said before Rei went to the hunting ground.

Rei switches to the AR-556 rifle and changes the firing mode to Full Auto

Ratatatata–!

One magazine ran out instantly but not a single wolf was hit.

 Ggrrrrrhhh!!  Crack!!!

From behind Rei, two wolves pounced and ripped his shoulder until his clothes and skin ruptured due to the sheer strength of the wolves.

With trembling hands Rei reloaded his AR-556 and shot the wolves aimlessly. But the pack was very clever and hid between the tree lines.

"Arrrghhhhh!!!!"

Ratatatata!!! Click! Click!

When his bullet runs out. Once again eight wolves appeared from the tree line.

Rei switched to his Glock and cocked it with his foreteeth. If Rei didn't miscalculate, the bullet capacity in his gun only totaled ten and he had just fired two rounds.

One wolf one bullet, with a wounded shoulder he shot a gun at the approaching pack of wolves.

 Bang!  Bang!  Bang!  Bang!

The wolves seemed to have been very trained to deal with humans. They evaded each shot with terrifying agility. Rei couldn't hit any of them until the bullets in his gun ran out.

 Click!  Click!  Click!

"Tsk! I should have brought spare bullets before leaving," Rei regretted as he threw the gun on the ground.

Eight wolves surrounded Rei who was cornered.  Thick saliva dripped as they barked and barked.

From their gazes, Rei felt anger and resentment.

"Revenge huh? Very well… Come to me!"  Rei drew his dagger and challenged the wolves.

No fear or regret.  Rei actually felt really honored to be able to die in the jaws of the wolves.  The creature he had admired since he was a child.

 Ggrrr!  Grrgg!  Crack!  Crack!

The sound of flesh being torn apart and bones being crushed was heard over and over again.  With two injured shoulders Rei couldn't do much against eight wolves at once.

Dark, cold and alone.  Rei's body was already numb from losing so much blood.

When Rei was on his dying breath on the snow that started to make his body freeze, one wolf walked up to Rei.

"Is this my end?"  asked Rei.

 Awoooo!

The wolf blinked and then howled sweetly as the other wolves followed.

During his career as a professional hunter, this was the first time he had heard a wolf howl up close.

"So melodious, if I could come back to life, I would like to see you guys again. Not as enemies, but as friends!"

Rei breathed his last when he finished his last wish.

 [----------------------------------------------------------]

 [Your wish has been granted]

Rei slowly opened his eyes and saw the vast blue sky above him.  He looked left and right and confused.

He woke up in a very wide dimensional space that seemed endless.  The sky was clear blue with thin clouds hanging in the sky, with bright golden rays of light.  However, he didn't feel the heat at all.

When Rei was still confused suddenly in another dimension, the sound of footsteps thudded loudly and made the place tremble.

When Rei turned his head in the direction of the voice, he saw a huge white wolf.  It was as tall as a five-story building.

Its claws and teeth that were slightly sticking out of his lips were golden, as were its eyes.

 Full of authority and intimidation.

Rei was speechless and stood frozen.  When it was enough with Rei, the giant wolf lowered its head and looked into his eyes.

 Fwuush!

The wolf sniffed and then nudged Rei with its snout and knocked him backwards.

"Finally! I've been waiting for eons for the right person to carry my power!"

The godly wolf was enough to petrified Rein in place. Even so the thunderous voice that reverberated inside his chest.

For a moment, Rei thought he was hallucinating but when he saw the giant wolf lay down, Rei didn't hear it wrong.  The wolf was talking to himself.

"What the fuck? This humongous beast can talk? Even so in my language?"

"Of course I could talk. Your language is the easiest in the universe!" the big wolf said proudly.

"What are you? Where the hell is this place? Afterlife or something?"

"This is my private realm. I am… Well, just call me God of Wolves for now."

"Okay… But why am I meeting you here? I should be in the afterlife meeting Satan, Lucifer or whatever they called by now!"

"Bhahaha!" The God of Wolves laughed thunderously.

"Because, you wish for a second life. Better yet, you obtained my power. You do remember about the wolf that you vigorously killed with your dagger. Am I correct?"

Rei gasped in surprise when he remembered the Alpha Gray Wolf who died in his hands.

"Shit! So the legend is true?! Am I going to have the power of a wolf?"

"Yes, but in Magus World Ezeroth. Not as a literal wolf. But in the form of a Lycan."  the God of Wolves said.

 "What?!"

 "Are you not interested?"

"Wait a second! So I will reincarnate for short?"

"Yes?"

"Why should I?"

"To maintain the balance of that universe, I've foreseen you since you are just a mere little spark of soul on the Tree of Life, this is your destiny as well as your karma."

Rei sat cross-legged and contemplated the actions of his previous life.

"If you are not interested, then you can spend your time in the void for eternity due to neglecting your destiny. Your call?"

Rei shook his head and stood up confidently. He said, "Take me to the Magus World!"

"Well said," A golden light emerged from the mouth of the God of Wolves.  Then enter Rei's forehead.

"I bestow you with my guidance. I heard from my fellow gods and goddesses that Earthlings really like playing games and guides. They are the so-called System. Use it wisely and with your wisdom!"

Rei nodded respectfully and closed his eyes.

"Enjoy your time!" said the God of Wolves. With a single breath he altered the floor.

 Whoooshh!!

The mirror floor where he was standing suddenly opened wide and swallowed him.

Rei free diving inside the portal and shouted as loud as he could.  His whole soul seemed to be drawn in a seemingly endless passage of time.
