I awoke to the sound of screaming and shouting coming from what seemed like everywhere. Explosions could be heard in the distance. My door slammed open and a light shinned man I did not recognize rushed in. He had rugged features a rough beard and, pointed ears!
It was an Elf! Oh wait what were they here again? Elvan? No Elvari! What were they doing here? I didn’t have much time to think past that because as soon as the slender and absolutely not pretty man saw me, he charged.
I dove to the side barely dodging the was to fast Elvari and was able to grab my weapons, not that they’d do me any good, I already knew this guy was beyond me from that charge alone. I couldn’t outrun him, couldn’t fight em either. I was pretty well f’d. Thankfully I was not alone, I massive blast of light incinerated the man before he could even try to come at me again. In walked my mother, as calm as taking a stroll. She looked at me, and I saw the Vampire Queen of Mind she was known for that day. A cold look scanned me for injury, then she said “Absorb that fool, you will need his strength.” In shot another Vampire, dressed mostly in black, they reported to Mother “The Elvari have found us but it was only a scouting party. The Main force will know where we are though and will be rushing here.”
“Of course they will be.” Mother said with disgust. She was now a completely different person from the overprotective and loving mother he’d known all his life. “Come Son, we haven’t all day. Father is waiting for us.” She said as she pointed at the now pile of charcoal that was once an Elvari scout, I shook off my daze and ran over to the pile, performing the absorb as quickly as possible. A massive +30 Body and + 15 Mind +3 Soul as well as +100 L hit me all at once more than doubling my current power, but I knew it would be little help at the moment.
I rushed as fast as I could to follow my mother who despite going absurdly fast, to me anyway, only looked like she was out for a stroll. I supposed with stats like hers my pace was a stroll. When we reached the central courtyard it was already over, Father and Master Krulen stood surrounded by dead Elvari. Mother told me to absorb them as well. She looked rather sad in doing so. I did as I was told netting me a truly massive +125 Body, +75 Mind and +20 Soul. Life went up by 100 per enemy and there were 20 of them, it seemed old age was no longer a concern for me.
Father glanced at me, he said “I am sorry son, I wanted you to gain power slowly, properly, but it seems like that chance has been taken from us, now you must gain it quickly if you want to survive.” I only nodded at my father; I understood this was not a circumstance any of us wanted. My mother was likely reverting to a cold battle hardened older self as a form of dealing with this as well.

As soon as I was done we rushed off gathering all the Vampires we could, we would try to escape and find a new place to hide if we could. Father and Mother were so fast; they’d make the flash jealous. Rushing this way and that gathering what we could save. Within 10 minutes the gathering was done and we were off. The entire race of Vampires was here and I only saw about 300 people. It was so much worse, so many were lost.
We raced north, the slower ones (like myself) carried by the stronger as we went, we could not afford to go at the slowest pace. To the North was an already prepared fallback point, a fort, with high walls long forgotten. It snowed year-round there so survival would be hard, even for us. It was the best option we had though.
As we rushed an explosion went off to our left. We had been found. An Elvari woman with glowing blue eyes floated behind us, fortunately it seemed she was alone; unfortunately she was stronger than any of us. “Marina” Mother hissed as soon as she saw the figure.
Master Krulen rushed her immediately; he shouted, “GO, I will hold her!” Father was about to join him when the glance at me stopped him. ‘Thank you, my friend” he whispered, turned, and we rushed off at our fastest pace.

“You will not stop me, leech” Marina said, as she condescendingly stared at Krulen.
“I do not need to stop you, Witch of the White Flame, I only need to slow you down,” Krulen glanced around at the wind, picking up around him. “Long enough for you to never find them.”
The witch seemed to have had enough and shot a stream of blue fire at Krulen, he easily dodged it. “Hey, aren’t you underestimating me a little to much, sparky?” He shouted.
“Die” was all he got in response as she summoned 2 beams, then 4 as he kept dodging them. It was not until she resorted to 20 beams that she finally got him, severing his right leg with one beam. Her cockiness cost her though; he sacrificed that leg to throw his axe at her, striking her in the stomach. Had she been a lesser Elvari that might have even been it for her, but she was the strongest Elvari behind only the leader. The axe did little more than knock her out of the sky and give her a bruise.
Her pride however had been wounded severely. As she recovered, rage filled her at the audacity of this lesser being striking her. She rose up in the air again and soon over 100 beams focused on a single spot, flash melting the snow around her, obliterating the target of her rage completely. In her rage, she had kicked up quite a mist and no longer knew which direction she had come from or where they’d gone. Picking a direction she thought was correct she flew off into the night, heading directly south.
