Chapter 0. Then I was

Sea of black, forms twisted and parted. There were large towers and deep engulfing flames. Reoccurring images played on a loop. It was all that I could do in the void of nothingness... There was no tether, no guide just things I knew not off, pictures forming of places lost. It felt like a large amount of time had passed, as these thoughts occurred more. I didn't know when they started, just that they had.

In all that was, all that there could be I.. Felt lost. It started, all things need a beginning just that I was, in this darkness. I don't know how, why or when. Only that figments, flashes clearing the darkness was all though of forms I didn't know off or what they meant. I still couldn't recall how it all became, but there was something I once wanted, craved.

..

Then it too started. Something new, something taken away from this void of unending darkness. It shook me, this "new" It felt like I was being prodded, though it hurt it was... Different. It was welcome despite that a distraction, a new sensation though pain struck it I didn't mind. Because in the end it was something different in the cycle of darkness, as I began to realize that I wished for more.

One day I was in darkness. Then the apex of prodding came I saw light- No more that I felt it. Encompassing my being down to the core, the darkness subsided past the rushed images of forms, black I didn't know; I still couldn't recall how it all became this way, I am a tree and I can feel and think. I know that it wasn't always so, was I dormant? Or merely planted with these unknown things held within my mind?

The prodding turned tapping, and such the change came clarity, something I yearned and lost had found itself within me. This new sensation rocked my being then.. A visage of crackling leaves and murals of red and orange swayed, drifting all around me for all I could see- Tapping again, and again something flew resting atop a branch.. My branch. It was fluffy, small and it chirped.

Then I was

The world had opened there was no other way in describing it. I gazed, felt and gorged on all that surrounded me, a bright force unlike all that I knew rested high above. Its radiance seemed to shine though all I saw and just the same It showered me. Rolling locks of golden ray's shimmered along misty ground and though a canopy of swirling leaves. More chirps and flying forms flew about, some pecked and others merely stood beating and cracking hard shells, all while dancing their fuzzy tails.

A constant dribbling flowed near, parting the soil green and patches of root, to a clear but sparkling surface. Water. It was a creek lined in pebbles, I saw these things, for what felt like an eternity had passed in the ceasing moments. I knew things all before I saw them answered by the present flashes that kept their linger; despite the receding void. I watched and listened though means I couldn't place, though organs I shouldn't have had but perceived nonetheless.

Concepts and meaning came to me distorted, they felt as if I had thought them once in each occurring image and flash of actions and places foreign to me. Till the tide stopped, the tapping calling me back again.

It was small no bigger than two or three branches, its two stubby feet likewise resembled me. Flowing blue turned more opaque down it's side with fluffs of white sprouting on it's side, were it kept shifting in subtle twitches then flaps as it dove between branches, picking off pieces of me into a circular pile. It's emerald eyes shone with life as it patted down the nest..

I felt the tiny thing in each ruffle and careful step, to the light's warmth and the ground below in outstretched roots. I could feel the water flow though me, the winds gentle hug. In my idle gaze, I for the first time lost myself, into what felt like contentment. I just watched in fascination, there was more than abyss...

Then darkness descended. Upon my sight, all that I could see vanished, as if it was illusion. The fear of the nothingness clutched all that I was. Would I return forever more to that place? A existence I dared not deem on anyone- But it only lasted a moment as a leaf brushed past covering me, and I realized my form inside a hollowed crevice. Rooted in place like a crystalline heart in the shape of a ragged shard, and something else rested just below; a white shape, sun battered and overgrown in moss, a suit of silver encased it riddled with holes.

Then I saw it's skull and instinctively, words formed in my mind. Tren that was my name.

...

Looking upon the skeletal remains eroded beyond just a few weeks, months or years. It had become apart of the landscape inlaid with soil and rock. Despite my newfound knowledge, my name was Tren and if I truly was.. Eluded me but these memories- The flashes in my mind came from somewhere and that alone is true. In the least, it seemed likely it was me, as I was once it. And regardless light still shone upon me from skies above this didn't change much of what I am now.

A red crest embroidered the rusted metal it was unreadable, what form it had once held was long past. This me didn't derive from overnight. Whatever I had been was long ago.
