Chapter 4 - First quest!
After waking up, we headed to the adventurer’s guild to make money because we’re broke, literally. I’m a broke God, yes-yes praise me for being poor.
“I found a D rank grey wolves subjugation request for a village nearby, the pay is 1 silver for subjugation and 5 bronze per corpse.”
After scanning the quest board for several minutes, Jack found a request for us.
“Let’s accept it! That’ll earn us enough to survive for a few days.”
Jack placed the request paper on the reception desk with our cards next to it and accepted the quest. We decided to exit through the north gate and headed towards the village. We walked several hours until we saw some smoke in the clear blue sky, after walking some distance, a wall made of wooden logs hammered onto the ground appeared.
“Hey! We’re here for the grey wolf subjugation.”
We shouted and banged on the closed wooden door attached to the side.
“Welcome! Thank you for accepting the request please head inside, I’ll guide you to the village chief’s house.”
The door opened and a frail old rabbit beastman appeared guiding us to a hut that was slightly larger than the others, inside we sat on a rough wooden chair, many of the village kids peeked at us behind through the opened door which we entered using.
“Alright, thank you.”
Some cracked teacups filled with some water were placed on the table, the table was missing a leg and a wooden log replaced it. The village seems to be very poor, such living conditions and hygiene is disastrous. Helping them means revealing my true self, I cannot take such a risk- wait, I can just command them to keep silent since it’s an order from God!
“Hey, Jack. I’m thinking of revealing myself and helping the village.”
“No matter how useless you are, are you willing to risk it?”
“I can order them to keep quiet no matter what and I’m not useless!”
“True, nobody is foolish enough to go against a divine beast and a Goddess. The fact that you’re useless is still true though.”
At that moment an elderly buff rabbit beastman walked into the room.
“I welcome you to our humble village, I’m the village chief. Dear adventurers, as you can see we spent all of our village funds to get rid of the wolves since they were disastrous.”
“We can see, shall I grant you some help?”
“Huh? Uh, yes, we hired you for that.”
I took off my hood and revealed my face, the village chief stood dumbfounded observing me for several minutes before kneeling down before me.
“We beg for your forgiveness, divine beast-dono.”
“Just call me Kurogami.”
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“As you say, Kurogami-dono.”
“No honorific allowed.”
“That cannot do, I’m unworthy.”
“It can-“
“It cannot.”
“But-“
“It cannot.”
“Tsk, fine. I want you to not tell anyone about what will happen.”
“Nothing will happen.”
“Shut up! I’m not useless!”
“Sure, sure.”
“Hey! Where did all the respect you had for me when you first saw me go?!”
“Nowhere, there was none.”
“I'm getting a headache because of you now.”
“Good for you, God of uselessness.”
“Tsk.”
I gave up arguing with Jack and decided to go to the middle of the village and requested the village chief to gather everyone around, the villagers had a worried look but when I took off my hood they all kneel before me with hope and passion in their eyes. I’m creating a cult in another world now.
“Everyone stand up please.”
“Please, Kurogami-dono, one such as yourself being present is enough joy, we do not need you to speak formally to us.”
“N-”
“That cannot be done.”
“I haven’t finished my sentence yet! Also, why are you interrupting me mid-sentence?!”
“That was the beginning of your sentence, Kurogami-dono”
“Shut up!-”
“Please spare the village and only take my head for the sins committed.”
“W- argh!”
“A person with a God title can’t even win an argument… pffffft.”
Jack who was behind me began trying to hold his laughter in. I will get you for this! After arguing for a few more hours, the sun began to set and the wolves arrived outside the village.
“WOLVES! Around 30-50 of them!”
Wait. Hold up, the request didn’t specify the amount but 30-50?! I need to find the nearest escape route.
“Time to show us your uselessness, you useless Goddess.”
Actually, I just remembered a good AoE spell and a torture spell.
“Wizz~ woo, I forgot the chant but bye-bye!”
A tornado 30m tall forms and made everything airborne, the wolves, the trees, the village wall, and several huts.
“Hahahahahaha!”
Jack, who witnessed my embarrassing failure, began to burst out in laughter again. The villagers on the other hand were pale white. I can’t pay you anything since I’m broke, good luck with the repair! Oh, I should probably give them some potions since that was my purpose in the first place and maybe gain some cult members as well.
“Inventory select! Intermediate Healing potions(12x)! Here you go, bye!”
I ran off pulling Jack with me after tossing some potions onto the dirt near the village chief. Wait, I should’ve taken the corpses of the wolves as proof of subjugation!
