Chapter 1: Enchanting Fall

Chapter 1: Enchanting Fall

"What's there to say, I died...."

"...."

"How you may ask, well it's ironic a deathmatch-prone game developer died on a construction site now isn't it."

"...."

"What was I doing there? Let's just say I was doing  such a good job on the enchantment system, even the black company I was working for was actually concerned about my health and ordered me to take paid leave, crazy right? ... ... oh the construction site part, yeah I was just being lazy and didn't feel like walking three hours to get to my house."

"You still there?"

As the endless deafness continued, the distant sound of dulled-out rustling leaves began to appear, drowning out the droning silence which previously remained uncontested. As the rustling's sound intensified and gained clarity, Zhou began to stir and brush his limbs against his grassy surroundings which accelerated his waking process from the tickling sensation brought on by the grass.

With a surge of adrenalin, Zhou shot his eyes open in a frenzy and flipped himself to his feet, rapidly pulling his shirt up to check his body. He blankly stared at his undamaged body, lightly poking a few spots cautiously, and exhaled in relief as he dropped his shirt. Taking a brief moment to think, Zhou swiftly grabbed at his clothing, pulling at it and giving it a puzzled look as he took in his cyan cotton tunic, blue trousers, and dark grey fur boots

(Zhou Emada Zukorou is a tall young adult male human; he has neck-low spikey dark silver hair with silver highlights, pale red eyes, and pale skin)

"Looks like something straight out of a fantasy game...,". Zhou went silent, his remark hitting him like a truck, and released his tunic from his grasp as the memory of him being impaled by multiple steel beams flashed to the forefront of his mind.

"No way...," Zhou uttered, lowering his head and covering his eyes. He shook his head, pessimism escaping every inch of his being, and crouched down to collect his thoughts. As the weight of his situation began to sink in, Zhou rustled his hair and defeatedly sighed, conflicted on whether to be mad about dying or not. After deeming he was in no place to be mad, Zhou slumped his arms to his sides before raising them again and resting them atop his knees with defeated swagger.

"And let me guess... if I say status a-". In the middle of his remark, a light synthesized ding rung in front of him, getting a defeated groan from him as he stared straight at the RPG pop-up right in front of his face.

"True Enchanter? Isn't that the...?". His voice trailed off, the memories of his last work shift resurfacing with a vengeance to cause Zhou a mild headache. He grasped his head, pressing his thumbs against his temples as the pain only seemed to grow in tandem with the influx of memories.

"Talk about giving painful memories a literal meaning," Zhou grumbled as he rubbed his head, "Let's give it ago, Buff: Endurance.".

As the activation pop-up faded, a colourless magic circle formed behind his hand, spinning at godly speeds, and illuminating half of Zhou's face with its light. He softened his expression as he felt the painful sensation fizzle away only leaving the memories that seemingly caused the pain in the first place.

"Although it worked those pop-ups sure are going to be a pain.".

"Oh... guess not then...," Zhou said as he raised to his feet, casting his gaze around. He took in the oddly silent serenity of the forest he found himself in, its silence giving the area a sickly eerieness to it. Despite nothing being particularly scary about his environment, Zhou couldn't shake the chilling sensation crawling up his spine and sending shivers through him.

"Knowing my luck, I'm probably standing on top of a sealed monster or something," Zhou remarked cheekily before a sinkhole opened up under him, giving him the impression someone caused it intentionally as he plummeted into the dark sinkhole.

"Goodbye second life," Zhou uttered, accepting his impending death with grace as he closed his eyes. As he continued to fall further and further, Zhou reopened his eyes and smirked playfully at the thought entering his mind.

"Right, got the class I made for Unlimited Tale. Slowfall.". A colourless magic circle washes over him, briefly coating him in a light glow as his falling dramatically slowed to a crawl and allowed him to safely land on his feet.

"That was a close one," Zhou remarked.

"I wouldn't say that, I could've easily saved you from dying," a calm booming feminine voice stated. Zhou dramatically seized up the large voice catching him completely off guard, requiring him to take a few seconds to collect himself before turning in the direction of the voice.

"Well, the voice matches," Zhou mentioned as he took a few steps back, giving himself a better view of the gigantic stone statue of a towering woman her hips adorned with six even larger protruding feathery wings.

"I'll take that as a compliment... now, for pleasantries. Greeting being from another world," the angelic statue said with a mild sense of relief. Zhou raised a hand to his chin and tapped it, his instincts yelling at him like a rabid animal to say what he was thinking.

"Let me guess, I appeared here because I either have or will have the skills necessary to get you out of your predicament, or something along those lines, correct?". The statue went silent, even causing tremors from holding back shocked laughter.

"Impressive, to think the soul I redirected from normal reincarnation would be so... I suppose straightforward fits," the statue remarked, her demeanour gradually being overtaken by her amusement and Zhou's crowing confused expression. The statue apologised for being unprofessional, stating she'd get back to business before her eyes began to glow. A beam of green mana shot out from her, hitting Zhou directly in the chest but causing no damage or affecting him in any way.

"There you go, now you should have the strength to get me out of my current state," the statue stated, her voice getting very giddy as her freedom was now on the tip of her tongue.

"Well... I'm fairly sure the level for the Re: skills were all around the five hundreds," Zhou mentioned.

"Just making sure, I am a high-ranking seraph after all. I'd feel bad if you died of mana deprivation from trying to free me.".

"Right...," Zhou uttered as he crouched to the floor and conjured a colourless magic circle at the floor. A puzzled hum escaped from the angel statue as she watched Zhou poke the stone floor, making the spot wobble like jelly.

"Aren't you going to free me?" the statue asked, her voice laced with unintentional worry. Zhou raised his free hand in a trance, flicking the air as if there were a switch there and eventually snapping out of it when he realised the switch wasn't flicking.

"Huh? Oh. Just give me a second, I'm just checking out the finer details of the skills, wouldn't want to turn you into a frog or something," Zhou explained sternly before returning all his focus to his testing, leaving the angel statue with no other option but to silently watch the proceeding skill testing.

Many hours later, a gentle light of the overhead moon shone down into the underground chambers. The sole platform was morphed beyond recognition with melted, bouncy, rocky, and all means of alteration brought upon by Zhou.

"Pleases... I don't care anymore I'll risk being turned into a frog over waiting any longer," the statue pleaded in complete desperation, her begging manifesting in reality as mild tremors. Zhou raised his head, his eyes baggy with exhaustion.

"You know the frog thing was a joke right, it is more of an Alchemy thing than an enchanting one," Zhou explained seriously, not missing a beat. Not finding Zhou's correction amusing or reassuring, the statue whined and angerly moaned, her entire body rattling as small chunks of stone chipped off her frame.

"I don't care, just free me already!" the statue exclaimed in a frenzy, her shaking getting more violent and even making the large chamber tremble. Zhou blankly stared at the statue, her whining continuing to shake the room, and he closed his eyes causing the statue to panic, thinking Zhou was thinking of leaving.

"If I use Re:Material, Re:Nature, and Re:Shape together, the stacked effect should work.". Shooting his eyes up to the statue, three colourless magic circles formed in front of Zhou before he grabbed the two outer magic circles and moved his hands together, forcing the separate circles to meld and overlap over each other to create an entirely distinct one from the original three. He grabbed the circle, briefly inspecting it before tossing it in an arch so it swerved around the angel statue and landed directly on her back

"Do I have the go-ahead?" Zhou asked. The angel statue gave him an angry and heartfelt huff while mumbling under her breath for Zhou to not ask redundant questions, given she already asked him twice. Zhou shrugged, remarking her outburst was fair.

"Now then, Re:Order.". In the flash of an eye, a blinding light exploded from the Re:Order enchantment magic circle, blinding the occupants as the light overtook every inch of the chamber before shooting out the sinkhole and blasting into the sky like a towering beacon.
