37 – Syzygy II

Immediately three carriages were brought to front of the hall. There were 6 black pegasuses pulling each of the carriages. “Hmph”, a sound of disdain came from Cyrus. My eyes rolled towards him and our eyes met. “They can’t even afford white pegasus. What a shame!”, he said out loud.

Students were divided into three groups. First two groups had 4 members, while the third one had three. I was chosen to be part of the first group.

Each group was to be led by a teacher. First group’s mentor teacher was Elena Hara. By the way, second group’s mentor teacher was Malor while third group was stuck with Maera.

Grouping the students in the initial stage was for us to get used to our group by the time we reached Molten Peak. Although in the campsite near the volcano we would act as one, but after the meditation stage we would be going to hunt the magical beasts. Accordingly we were going to act as one army but with three groups. Members of the group had to get familiar with each other.

“It will take two days of time to reach Molten Peak thanks to these”, Elena said pointing towards the carriage with her right arm.

When she raised her arm, the robe that was covering most of her body moved away. She was wearing short sleeve t-shirt and pants. Her arm muscles were well built for a woman. Her long black hair was braided, twisted and woven in a feminine style. Her skin was bright.

She turned back to us and said “I’m Elena Hara. 7th rank earth magus. You guys will be in my care until the end of the training. Introduce yourselves!”

Everyone told their names and magical affiliations. Cyrus was the first one to speak. Vita Atheus was the second to introduce herself. She was followed by Salman Fyser. Last one to speak was me.

All other groups had finished at the same time with us, so all of us went to carriages. To everyone’s surprise, Kyle came out of the crowd and whispered few things into my ears. I nodded and left to carriage.

The campsite was secret and Malor Ratarr was the only one with specific knowledge regarding its location.

In a sense, Molten Peak was a freezone with no family to rule over it. There were thousands and thousands of people who went there for pilgrimage. Likewise, merchant caravan’s passed by it. Moreover bandit, criminal and mercenary groups roamed in those areas freely with no worry of any repercussions from big families or kingdom.

To protect us, from variable threats such as those, information regarding the campsite had to be kept secret.

Carriage was big enough to accomodate 10 people. It was sofa like chairs where one could sit and sleep in ease. For the first hour of the flight I joined chatting them. Later on Elena told us to sleep in case we felt so.

Jumping at the chance, like a koi out of the water, I relaxed my body and closed my eyes. Nobody knew what we were going to face in the wilderness, so better take my chance and sleep now rather than regret it later.

Students and Elena were still chatting but their voices wouldn’t harm my sleep. It didn’t take long for me to sleep.

// this is the dream //

“Hey! Hey! Soviets!”, the voice startled me.

“What?”, I said and slowly opened my eyes. Omar was grinning. His white teeth were sparkling like sun in the darkness of the night.

“What the fuck man? Lemme sleep”, I responded while saliva flowed out of my mouth down to my chin.

“We almost here! Get ready!”, Omar said hastily.

“Alright! Alright!”, I said out loud.

The car stopped.

Rain was heavily pouring down from sky.

Omar switched of the car and took out the keys.

“Shall we?”, he said in an ironic tone.

“I’m more than enough... You stay here!”, I told to him. He looked at me but said nothing. I knew that he had parents and a younger sister. I couldn’t let him come with me.

I was wearing flip-flops, a t-shirt and shorts with quicksilver emblem on them. I had a pale beige long raincoat which reached my knees on me too.

“Are you sure?”, Omar asked.

“I am soviets”, I replied. It was a lame joke.

I grabbed pack of cigarettes that was lying on console near the gear stick. ‘Parliament’ was written on it. I took out a cigarette out of the pack and put it in between my lips. I touched the pockets of the raincoat but couldn’t feel anything.

“Here... This is my lucky zippo”, Omar gave me the lighter.

I lighted the zippo and burned the tip of the cigarette. I exited the car and exhaled the smoke of the cigarette. Pushed the door to close it. In matter of seconds rain was flowing down from my head to my stomach and backside.

I walked to the bikie club room which was 15 meters away from the place where Omar had parked the car. I raised my right hand to smoke but cigarette was already turned off by the rain water.

“Fuck it”, I said and threw the cigarette.

With both of my hands I pushed the door to the club room to open it. AC/DC tune was playing. There were quite a few tables and all of them had around 4-5 big ass bikies sitting by them.

More than ten bikies were sitting by the bar. A nude woman was serving them drinks. Everyone turned to look at me.

Chit-chatting had stopped. I walked into the middle of the room. Eyes were on me. AC/DC’s ‘Back in black’ was still on.

A bikie almost as tall as me walked up to me.

“You have big balls, kid”, he said.

I grabbed my crotch.

“Tell your sister, I got a big dick too”, I said out loud.

Everyone began to laugh.

He took out a knife.

“Your last words, motherfucker”, he screamed.

“Try! You won’t get away with a broken nose this time”, I yelled.

“Enough”, a voice echoed. “Jones, calm the fuck down”, same voice spoke again.

I turned to my right where the voice was coming over. There was an old man. His hair and beard were white as snow. There were three more bikies sitting on his right and left. “He must be Sabbath! Their leader”, passed my mind.

“Are you going to stay there like a statue?”, he told.

I walked to them and stood a meter away from their table.

I was getting tired of carrying my raincoat. It felt so heavy...

“Why?”, Sabbath asked me.

“That’s my turf now”, I replied.

“Hmm”, he was still staring at me.

“You gotta pay the tax”, a bikie sitting by Sabbath talked.

“I pay no one”, I said.

Sabbath began to laugh out loud. Other bikies stood up and circled me. I think they were waiting for his signal.

“I’m Sabbath! You?”, he said as he stopped laughing.

“They call me Soviets!”, I answered.

“Soviets... It’s been a long time that I saw someone as crazy as you to come here alone and say that you ain’t gonna pay us a penny... I like you”, Sabbath told.

“I ain’t no homo”, I said.

“Neither I am... As much as I am alive, nobody from our side will come to disturb you”, Sabbath yelled so that everyone could hear.

“One thing though”, Sabbath acted as if he is puzzled.

“How did you plan to get out of here in case you had problems?”, Sabbath asked.

Our eyes met. He was looking at me in curiosity.

I grabbed my raincoat and opened them to see it.

“25kgs of c4 is enough to blow the fuck out of this clubroom, and maybe even the street”, I spoke calmly.

“I would still pay no one”, I said out loud.

Sabbath was only one who was laughing. All of them were staring at me with crazy eyes.

“I like you more”, Sabbath said and I turned to leave.

// end of the dream //

I jumped up as I woke up from the sleep. Elena and the rest were startled. “Bad dream?”, she asked. “A lucid dream”, I replied. Sweat was flowing from my forehead down as if a flood had occurred in mountains.

“How long till we get to Molten Peak?”, I looked at Elena. “An hour ago we had our last break, so in 5-6 hours we will be there”, she replied. “You are a heavy sleeper”, she added.
