Prologue

Year 1546

In the year 1546 since the Great Treaties, the portals to the demons’ world which had been long closed opened again. Each of the twelve continents had to defend against armies of ravaging and bloodthirsty demons led by powerful demon lords. The world fell into chaos and each continent became isolated as every race struggled to survive. The invasion of the demons came to be known by many names, such as the Red Tide, the Great Calamity, the All-burning Hordes…

After 20 years of war and death, as suddenly as they had opened, the portals closed. The survivors looked at each other relived and thanked their gods for their good fortune. Kingdoms could be reconstructed and hopes could be found back in their lives. But as trade resumed and the reconstruction took place, the first ships to reach Lalcqia, the continent of the Lizardmen, discovered a terrifying truth. Not all demons were dead or gone. Where the lizardmen once ruled, only demons now thrived.

Year 1566

Only one thing united the different pantheons of gods: their hate of demonkind and the corruption it brought to their realms. At first, they had been pleased by the chaos brought by the invasions. It had appeared to them as the seeds for a new opportunity, a way to change the stalemate in which the world had been for a thousand and a half years. But once they witness the lizardmen’s gods simply disappear out of existence, they remembered the taste of fear.

The heads of all the different pantheons convened and, after long and strenuous discussions, agreed that a common action had to be taken. Reaching an accord, they would summon twelve heroes for all eleven remaining major races, they would give them their blessing, and task them with the reconquest of Lalcqia.

The gods collectively proceeded with the ritual and then left to go back to their own domains, each already planning. For there were twelve races but history had proven that only one could be the hegemon of a continent.
