Hello, Reclaimers!
As you've all likely noticed, updates on Reclaimer: Imperator have stalled somewhat in the last few days, and for those of you that have not been paying attention to my Author Notes, I'm going to briefly explain why.
When I first started Reclaimer: Nephilim, it was a half-baked idea drawn from multitudinous influences and wrapped into an imaginative ball of possibility. I knew I wanted a Spellsword Protagonist, I knew I wanted Dragons and Vampires, and I knew I wanted Dark Souls-esque Sword and Sorcery as the combat premise.
Everything else, though, was basically my usual: fly by the seat of my pants, and hope for the best.
In the world of writing, I am what's called a "Pantser": an author who does not make outlines or narrative goals, but instead simply writes whatever feels right in the moment. For the most part, thanks to my vocabulary, that tends to serve me well.
What it does not do, however, is guarantee consistency nor quality. That, dear reader, is where Reclaimer Redux comes in.
I started Redux with the hope of making some improvements to Nephilim. Instead, it's become essentially a whole new story in some ways. Oh, it's the same in terms of overall plot, and the Chapters are largely similar; but the exposition, world building, and even just the language have seen marked improvement. The pacing is better, the description is more mature, and the overall quality is infinitely superior.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Given my history on this version of the project, I had to choose where future updates would go... and, after consideration, I have decided that they will go to Reclaimer Redux. The rewrite is currently on Chapter 48 (what used to be Nephilim Chapter 34) and will be ramping toward a new and improved final 15-20 Chapters over the next week.
Until Redux is caught up, I will continue posting new Chapters here as I write them.
Once Reclaimer: Nephilim is completed on the Redux, I will begin posting the Reclaimer: Imperator chapters onto the Redux as well, and eventually, every new Imperator Chapter will go to that story alone. This one, as a result, will be put on Hiatus or marked as Completed, depending on my desires and discussion with Royal Road staff.
So what does this mean for you?
Simple.
Go follow Reclaimer Redux.
That's where the story will eventually continue, and more than that, there are changes both large and small to the future narrative that will make no sense if you haven't read the Redux Chapters.
I didn't make this decision lightly, but it is a decision that I felt was necessary, and it's one I'm very unlikely to budge from. I feel cleaner doing things this way, and I can only hope you'll support me in this new Chapter (huehuehue) of the Reclaimer story.
As always, thank you for your support, and I hope my writing gives you as much joy to read as I take in creating it.
God bless you all.
With love and respect,
Hannibal
