Hi all, been a bit since you heard from me! In fact it’s been since about December since the last chapter was uploaded.
I’ll be honest with you all, going into the new year I realized I was heavily burnt out from work, real life responsibilities, and I’d been writing ROTGS for about 2 years or so at that point, and decided to take a longer then normal break.
With that said, we have some good news and bad news:
Good news: I’m finally back to writing! Also no worries, ROTGS WILL be returning.
The bad news: My old laptop which had all my stuff saved died on me. Yes I had that same problem early on into writing of Rotgs with the laptop prior to that. Basically it’s going to take me a bit to get everything back in order but thankfully all the old chapters are saved right here on Royal Road.
The other (maybe) good news: While I won’t be uploading another chapter super soon (probably another month, maybe less, no promises) I’ve actually been working on another story in this time, a story I’ve been writing more as a challenge to myself. I’m outspoken in my view of LITRPG, which is that they are the burgers of reading. 7/10 aren’t terribly great for you but still taste good, 2/10 are going to make you painfully ill, and 1/10 are genuinely amazing and high quality. What I’m getting at is, I wanted to challenge myself to write a litrpg if I felt so strongly about them. And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing! My inspiration has been, in so many of these stories the question is never answered, “who were the original forerunners” and “why does this world work by a semblance of video game logic”
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
So yeah, if you’re at all curious I’ll be dropping the first chapter this Friday!
Now, time for another update. If any of you remember in the past I stated I wanted to change the volumes to be approximately 200k words vs the 110k ish. At the time I thought it was a good idea so I could take more time to flesh out the world, but I’ve come to realize that I was setting an unnecessary expectation and goal. I’m now rescinding that, stories will now simply be however long they end up. Aside from the last volume following Rook as a teacher, the story of ROTGS is meant to be a faster paced story with down moments interspaced, the slow burn development is meant to take place over the entire series, not within each individual volume. In truth this won’t really effect you guys, but it should help me feel less like I’m forced to meet a quota then an organic writing and story telling style.
With that, that’s basically it for the update. Sorry it took so long! If anyone has any questions, be it ROTGS related, my upcoming LitRPG, or even just basic writing/reading stuff just drop a comment!
Until next time,
Peace!
