Chapter 7: Returning with a Full Load

Li Chenxi entered a sports equipment store.

After purchasing several of the sturdiest and best baseball bats, she also picked up a range of adventure gear.

She bought flashlights, helmets, armor, protective gear, tents, protective suits, and tactical clothing...

She covered all the essentials for outdoor activities.

These items cost a little over twenty thousand yuan.

Additionally, the store had emergency kit accessories, such as tweezers, pliers, hemostatic bandages, thermometers, etc., which reminded Li Chenxi that she needed to visit a pharmacy.

After leaving the outdoor equipment store, she went to a pharmacy to stock up on cold medicine, hemostatic agents, fever reducers, vitamins, bandages, alcohol, iodine tincture, and other common medicines.

She wasn’t interested in prescription drugs.

She wouldn’t need them.

After ten years of surviving the apocalypse, anyone who needed to take various medications daily had already been eliminated.

Just a basic emergency kit was sufficient; she didn’t need a lot.

In the apocalypse, poor health was a fatal flaw.

After leaving the pharmacy, it was already early evening.

The city lights were dazzling.

Li Chenxi had now prepared everything she could.

Food, drink, shelter, and basic necessities were all taken care of.

She had 1.57 million yuan remaining.

Time for some shopping!

She planned to enjoy herself in this bustling world before the apocalypse struck!

First, she indulged herself at a Michelin-starred restaurant she had previously felt was too extravagant.

She ordered a luxurious feast: mushroom soup, garlic ribs, pan-seared cod, crispy chicken, garlic shrimp, and other dishes she couldn’t afford before.

For the delectable garlic shrimp and tender filet mignon, she asked the kitchen to prepare ten portions for her to take away!

She needed to bring some back for summer too!

After booking a suite at the hotel, she continued shopping in the mall downstairs.

The mall was filled with a wide variety of goods, and the tempting food options were plentiful.

Used to hard times, Li Chenxi first headed to the food section.

There were all kinds of delicious treats: fragrant egg waffles, takoyaki, Hong Kong-style cakes, meat floss pastries, fried skewers, fried chicken, fried pork chops, oden, ice cream, milk tea, and Cantonese sweet soups... everything imaginable.

Seeing all this, Li Chenxi felt she wanted to buy so many things.

However, due to time constraints and limited money, these items weren’t on her must-buy list!

These were just luxuries of peaceful times, and in the apocalypse, they would be frivolous.

But for now, she could indulge!

She spent freely on food and drinks.

Li Chenxi bought out store after store. She discreetly but extravagantly told the staff to pack up all the snacks, paid for everything, and had them delivered to her hotel room upstairs.

Each shop’s staff were wide-eyed at her request and quickly packed everything for her.

For instance, at the first bakery, she had all the fresh-baked bread, cheesecake, cream puffs, cream squares, mochi, cream rolls, durian mille-feuille, egg yolk pastries, waffles, and butterfly-shaped cookies packed up and sent up.

At the Korean fried chicken store, she ordered all flavors, including sweet and spicy sauce, amber sauce, garlic soy sauce, honey mustard, and various chicken parts—boneless pieces, chicken legs, wings, and whole chickens.

At the milk tea shops, she tried every flavor available, including milk tea, fruit tea, ice cream tea, milk cap tea, and shaved ice!

Li Chenxi paid for everything, left her address, and left without causing any disturbance.

By the end of her shopping spree, she had spent over two hundred thousand yuan just on snacks!

Each store’s inventory cost around ten thousand yuan. For places like the liangpi (cold noodles) shop and egg waffle shop, where she didn’t think it was necessary to stock up, she only ordered one of each flavor, which cost a few hundred to a few thousand yuan.

Li Chenxi spent over two hundred thousand yuan clearing out all the snack shops on the second and third floors of the mall.

After finishing with the snacks, she headed to the bottom level where the supermarket was located.

The supermarket was a must-visit!

She first pushed two large shopping carts and made her way through the enormous warehouse-style supermarket.

At checkout, her carts were filled with various items, each in a single quantity.

For instance, she had one bag each of every flavor of chips, one packet of every kind of cookie and candy, one bottle of every type of beverage, including juice and soda. She also made sure to include all sorts of ready-to-eat items like sausages, roasted chicken, roasted fish, sushi, rice balls, and boxed meals.

She didn’t forget to get semi-finished products like marinated chicken, pork chops, fish fillets, and army stew.

For daily necessities, she picked up personal care items, face cream, and essential items she almost forgot like sanitary pads, disposable towels, and wet wipes.

Since she was spending on lifestyle upgrades, she also ordered essential home appliances like a washing machine, a robotic vacuum cleaner, and a refrigerator.

In the past, she wouldn’t have considered these things, but now that she had the money, she had to spend it!

When the two carts were checked out, Li Chenxi went straight to the manager and requested that, aside from the appliances, she wanted the store’s entire stock of the other items in her carts.

However, she had underestimated both the stock and the cost.

Before she could get everything from the two carts, her wallet was empty!

One hundred thirty thousand yuan only covered about a third of what she wanted!

How embarrassing!

The basic food staples she had stocked up on earlier were cheap, but these processed goods were several times more expensive!

Seeing her account deplete, Li Chenxi decided to keep what she had already bought. It would have to do for now.

At worst, she could make related dishes herself from raw materials in the future.

She left her address with the manager and asked if he could arrange for the delivery of her purchases today.

The manager assured her that it would be no problem at all!

Feeling somewhat regretful about leaving behind so many supplies in the vast supermarket, she headed up to explore further.

She had only visited the food courts on B1 and B2 and the large supermarket so far.

She hadn’t touched the clothing sections upstairs, as she had no money left.

Her account had only about seventy yuan remaining.

But seventy yuan was still enough to browse!

She bought a 14 yuan iced cocoa from a convenience store and then strolled through the clothing stores one by one.

By the time she finished browsing the clothing stores on the third floor, her iced cocoa was gone.

She had found a few pieces of clothing she liked during her visit.

“How much is this baseball jacket?”

“Miss, it’s on sale now for half price, two thousand yuan!”

Li Chenxi heard the price and said nothing further.

Two thousand yuan, even with a discount.

This was the best mall in town, and everything sold here was from high-end brands.

It was truly too expensive for her to afford.

She left empty-handed, and the sales manager nudged the sales associate who had just given Li Chenxi the quote.

“Why bother with her? She’s clearly a poor person who can’t afford our stuff! Didn’t you see she was empty-handed after browsing several floors? She couldn’t possibly buy anything here! Be more discerning in the future, learn to judge people…”

The chastised sales associate just pouted and remained silent.

Li Chenxi overheard their conversation but chose to ignore it and continued walking.

After struggling through the apocalypse for so long,, she wasn't some brainless retard who rushed up to theories or hotheadedly paid for them to look good in the face when people said two things.

The End Times didn't need to punch in the face, only to kill.
