Chapter 2 - yearn

Like a thirst that could never be quenched and an insatiable hunger, the burning need for revenge ravaged Mo Chen's mind. His blood boiled, his heart raced, threatening to drive him mad as he tore through the library, desperately searching for a way out.

After days of fruitless searching, his strength failed him, and he was forced to give up. Driven by gnawing hunger, he began flipping through the ancient texts, finding no sign of food, only a basin filled with high-grade qi-gathering pills—cultivation aids. Despite their bitter taste, the pills were a substitute for food and water.

As he consumed the pills, he was forced to cultivate to properly circulate the qi and draw energy from them. Time seemed to lose all meaning as he immersed himself in cultivation. In the dimly lit library, unable to discern the passage of time, he could only consume pills and cultivate at his own pace.

Driven by his growing interest in the written word and his lack of alternatives, he began flipping through the books, despite lacking the specific ki circulation paths necessary to master most martial arts techniques.

Mo Chen gradually developed a habit of relentless study. His connection to the outside world grew fainter, his perception of time becoming warped. He could sense himself aging, but the time he had spent inside was impossible to measure. The face of his father grew hazy, a distant memory. By this point, Mo Chen was about 47 years old, his body ravaged by constant cultivation, his sustenance solely from pills, no longer able to satisfy his growing hunger.

He stumbled upon a particular technique, one that even a novice could attempt. It was called "Reaper's Realm," a domain capable of destroying anything within its reach and generating its power endlessly, without relying on the practitioner's own reserves.

Intrigued, Mo Chen devoted every moment he could to studying the Reaper's Realm technique. While he only partially understood its inner workings, he was driven by an almost desperate need to unlock this forbidden power. Soon after, he managed to open the domain, but as he did so, his eyes went black, and he lost all vision.

Unbeknownst to him, the domain began devouring everything around him. As he stumbled about that day, the library's walls crumbled, its ancient books turning to dust, as he made his way out of the store.
