In the corner of the room, something stood, obscured by clustering shadows. Robert stared hard at the figure, whose eyes were the only parts that were clear and piercing.
“Who are you?” Robert asked, panic subdued but still evident in his tone.
The thing did not respond to him. It only blinked before returning to observe.
“I said, who are you?!” Robert demanded, rising from his bed and reaching for a weapon that may have been there.
…but the thing seemed unfazed. Its eyes moved, but only to follow the man.
Then, he found something. Robert barely registered what it was before throwing it at the intruder. It made a thud. He saw the thing`s eyes close, not to blink; they didn`t reopen, and it seemed the thing had disappeared.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Robert sat on his bed for a moment, trying to comprehend what had just happened. He felt a shiver assault his body, and the room suddenly felt colder. It was air-conditioned, so of course it would feel cold, but Robert had a feeling it was something more.
He brought his feet to the floor, hurried over to the light switch, all without taking his eyes off the corner where the thing once stood.
The switch was flipped, and the room lit up. It was a bit too bright a bit too suddenly; Robert found himself dazed and blinking. His eyes were still on the corner, trying to make out the intruder as his eyes recovered.
But there was nothing there.
No figure, no shadows, no anything.
“It was just an illusion…” Robert sighed, relieved but also slightly regretful. He came near the corner, and the only thing there was a phone with a cracked screen.
