Prologue| The Suicidal Start

Prologue| The Suicidal Start

Your life gets easy when things go according to your plans, and you have somebody who pulls out of the mess, whenever you get into one. Kaye was living his life peacefully in this very same manner. Although once he had been a short-tempered guy, his girlfriend Ava had helped him to be a social person.

It was the last day of the PhotonSync research school, and summer vacation was about to start. Ava had completed giving her last physics lecture to the students for the session. She was living to get a cab home.

After finding one, she was just about to tell the driver her destination, and her phone rang.

She received the call and said in a gentle voice, “Yes, Kaye? I am about to head home.”

“Can you come to the MM mall? I am off early today.” It was Kaye who answered from the other end.

"Sure, I just got the cab. I'll be there soon." She hung up the phone and asked the driver to take her to the MM mall.

On reaching the MM mall, she spotted Kaye sitting on a public bench outside of the mall. Moving his head like a surveillance camera, he was observing passing by cabs. But comically missed the one in which Ava had arrived.

Guess not so smart, after all, Mr. Kaye. She smiled and quickly turned the other way around. She sneakily detoured the entrance of the mall and reached Kaye's back.

Still busy searching her in the stopping by cabs, he didn't notice her behind himself. With a sweet and naughty smile, Ava blew in his ear. Anxious why she hadn't arrived yet, he fearlessly stood in frustration to take upon the jerk who bothered him.

"Ha... heh... ha... heh..." But instead of some jerk, he found Ava gleefully laughing at him. She just couldn't hold her laugh on Kaye's stupefied face after seeing her behind him. He jumped over the bench and hugged her, almost lifted her up.

"How the hell you sneaked up on me, I haven't missed a single cab." He said with a lively voice while slowly letting her go.

"Oh, you totally missed the one I was in." With gleaming brown eyes, she replied while managing her scattered pure-black hairs.

"Guess I did," he admitted while holding her shoulders.

“So, are you done with your project?” she asked.

Completely drugged by her presence, he thought Those eyes, it feels like only she can see me.

"Hey! Me to reality, Mister," she said while waving his hand in front of Kaye's eyes.

"Yeah... Yeah..." He shook his head and thought, What was she asking again?

"Your work..." She said while stretching her brows and widening her eyes. Almost as if she read his mind.

“Oh Yeah! The Star buster's gameplay is complete, and there won't be any new projects until its launch next week,” He replied while gently holding her hand, as if she would sprite away in the next moment, and he didn't want to let her go.

Kaye was a game developer and a team leader in a game development studio. It's not like that this was the only thing he could do, but he did like building things, and ended up as a game developer.

The latest project undertaken by his studio was a big one and had just been completed today. Therefore, he decided to surprise Ava with a secret vacation trip. But before that, some shopping had to be done.

After they had completed their shopping, both were heading towards home. They were walking down a less populated back alley to get a cab on the main road.

I never want to leave your side. Both were holding each others' hands and walking towards the road. They both felt like they were in heaven.

In the next moment, he heard her screaming on top of her lungs. She was staring in shock towards Kaye's head, which was bleeding. What happened, I am by your side! Kaye, unable to understand what was going on, just stared at the panicked Ava.

After he recovered from the shock of being hit, he saw four men who were trying to snatch things from Ava, almost torturing her. His head started to feel heavy, and his left shoulder soaked in his blood. Somebody hit him with a rod in the back of his head.

“I will give you everything... Please... Let him live... Please….”

She ripped her platinum pendant and her earrings, leaving bruises and scratches where they had previously been. She paid no attention to her now bleeding neck and pleaded for Kaye’s life. But the thieves merely laughed at her act. The expressions on their faces showed extreme delight, as if they enjoyed every moment of Ava’s struggle and her selfless desire to save Kaye. They were maniacs who loved to torture people. One of them deliberately hit Ava’s leg with the rod just to hear her scream more. As if her screaming was some form of entertainment.

“NO! Don’t do anything to her please...” Kaye tried to shout as he heard Ava’s painful scream, but only a terrible screech resounded in the area.

He was trying to speak, but words weren't coming out of his mouth. He was terrified that they would kill her, so he didn't try to do anything rash, or rather he couldn’t as his vision was dizzy and blurry.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

No matter how much both of them pleaded with the thieves, they didn't let her go. She wasn't able to get out from the grasp of the thieves, only her screams were escaping her mouth.

He was barely able to stand, slowly losing his consciousness. In front of Kaye's eyes, one of the thieves hit Ava so hard that she turned silent instantly.

I will kill you all… Kaye swore in his heart as his consciousness drifted away into the void, but still worried about Ava.

Kaye struggled to open his eyes, and a white ceiling appeared in front of him. The hit he got knocked him unconscious for almost two days. Filled with dizziness, he helped himself to sit up. He was in a hospital. With the fading dizziness, he regained his consciousness. The rush of his memory followed it, reminding what had happened to Ava and him.

I need to check up on her condition. She must be in here too. He thought and tried to get down from the bed, but an unpleasant pain behind his head made his whole body shuddered.

A nurse passing by his room watched him and hurried to attend to him. "Sir, please take it easy, you haven't been able to recover fully yet."

“Can you please take me to Ava? My girlfriend, she must have been brought here with me,” he asked, while his body was shaking, he wanted to see her so desperately, but his weak and frail body wasn’t obeying his commands.

The nurse looked at the monitors which showed Kaye’s vitals' conditions, she became silent for a few seconds, and then said, "Sir, you need to rest first."

"I need to see her, please." but Kaye pleaded in desperation.

"Sir, please wait a minute, I am calling the doctor." Unable to see his pitiful state, she decided to call the doctor immediately.

The nurse left the room, and a few minutes passed. In the meantime, Kaye cursed himself for being so weak that he couldn’t save her. All these passing seconds, he was staring towards the door that the nurse would come and tell him where Ava was.

Finally, the doctor came in and said, “Mr. Kaye you are awake let me check you.”

“Sir, how is Ava doing? Can I see her now?” Kaye asked. His vitals had been stabilized, and he could make normal movements now.

“Mr. Kaye, I believe your condition is better now, but I have to let you rest for two more hours before we let you see Ms. Ava,” The doctor replied.

Two hours later, the doctor came back, and he asked Kaye to follow him. All Kaye had in mind was Ava’s well being. He was so lost in thought that he never noticed the ‘mortuary ahead’ signboard on the top of the corridor he had just entered. He just had the sense that they were walking down an awfully silent corridor, where no one was present. They opened up a locker and showed him a dead body. Soon the cold mist cleared from Ava's body, her pale face, and her dry lips appeared in front of him. He saw her body like that, and his face became blank. He went to his room and lay down on the bed again.

The doctor told him that he had been in the hospital for two days, and the girl brought with him was already dead by the time she got there, so the doctor wasn't able to do anything for her.

His house was located outside of the city, on the outskirts, it was an open field. It had been three days since Kaye got discharged from the hospital and five days since the incident.

It was almost 1 o'clock in the midnight and Kaye in his kitchen, done with his preparation.

“Clank… Clank… Clan…”

Some steel objects were making clanking sound simultaneously and vigorously. He lit up the lighter and threw it on the floor. It fired up the kitchen. By the time he came out of the front door whole house was embraced by flames. He then went to the bridge, not too far away from his house. The bridge was 150 meters high. The river was full of water even in the summer because it had a dam built on it, a few km away.

He was standing upon the railing, ready to dive down in the river. The eerie silence of the night did nothing but encouraged him to dive. He was having only a single thought. If only I were more powerful. With that thought in his mind, he jumped off the railing.

The precious and tragic moments he’d been through in his life, were flashing in front of his eyes. Kaye did not know anything about his childhood. He was only six years old when he first opened his eyes in front of the orphanage, having no prior memories of his past life.

He was a patient of amnesia the doctors confirmed the fact after the orphanage took him, he hadn't been able to remember anything from the past, and it just felt to him like somebody plugged him to reality. He got adopted by his parents, after living in the orphanage for a few months. At the age of twenty years, an accident took them away from him for always. Life was cruel enough to him, but his parent's death made it tragic. Ava’s death was the point when he completely broke down.

The things which had happened to him were so intense that reminiscing them didn't let him feel the impact of the water. When the ominous silence started to surround him deep within the water, he thought It couldn't go any worse. Everything will be ok, death will embrace me now.

No, it became worse because he heard it "Don't give up yet, try to give life one more chance." her voice was telling him not to give up. Life played another cruel joke on him.

No matter how hard he was resisting it to ignore, he was full of confusion about what to do? Whether to give up? Or try to live once more to find her reminisce through the daily life events that they spent together? Finally, he realized If it is the end, then I won't be able to make it to the surface. He thrashed his body with full power towards the surface.

He struggled to swim and managed to come to the water surface. But the shock of hypoxia (Shortness of breath) took him from the reality that the water beneath him was not deep anymore, he could stand, and how there was sunlight in the middle of the night. He coughed for a few seconds and found himself in an unknown place.

----------------------------------------

It was 5 in the morning. The temperature had cooled down almost 43 degrees Celsius, like in the summer. Four men were bound to the steel chairs of the dinner table. They were looking at each other’s faces, but no eyeballs were remaining. The fire had wiped all of their skin from the skull, and the chains melted and fused with their bones where they were bound.

A few hours later, the incident got the attention of reporters. The fire department showed up, and finally, the forensics department.

“We are here, at 123 Ofork Street, sector 5 of Mithy City. The news of a house on fire was reported at 5:45 AM to the fire department. When the firefighters showed up at the hose, it was already burnt to cinders, and they also spotted four victims inside. There are rumors that the dead bodies are from the cold-blooded murderers who were killing people for fun, they were on the loose a few days ago. This incident is confirmed to be a homicide attempted in pure vengeance by the owner of this house. The suspect is still missing.” The reporter was reporting the incident in a nonchalant voice as a typical reporter.

These were the cold-blooded murderers that ambushed Kaye and Ava 5 days ago. He burned them alive without even knowing that he did it.
