"Your Highness!"
A young knight opens the door to the King hall without hesitation. It triggers a few of the officials that are currently conversing with the King.
"How dare you interrupt while his Highness is talking!" One of the officials regards the knight as a nuisance and vent his frustration on the knight.
"A-Apologies, sir!"
"Guards eliminate him at once!"
"HALT!" The blond middle age man yells while activating his magic power. The black silk coat that trails to his legs flutters back and forth as he stood up from his throne. Expression of annoyance appears in his face as he didn't think the puny officials would give an excuse of using him to kill a knight.
Upon hearing the word, everyone stops their actions. As if the surrounding atmosphere freeze in response, so does the beings. Everyone expression pales as breathing gets harder for a few seconds.
"Report." The atmosphere suddenly turns to normal with just a word from the king.
Most of the officials drop to the ground as they try their best to regain their strength and breath. In one glance, it can be seen that all of the officials are scholars with high intelligence but with unfortunate luck. The highest spirit rank among them is the knight who is truly expendable during a war.
"Haa... Haaa... Yes, your Highness! Scout reports are back, the rumor that Roukitz village has been decimated is true!"
The king turned towards the rest of the official and adjourned their current meeting. The indifferent expression on the officials as they proceed to pack their stuff shows how little importance they think on the particular village.
Rational over emotion, a simple term that describes the current hierarchy of the kingdom. What is a simple village compared to the frontlines that they are facing?
After passing the reports to the king advisor, the knight is dismissed. The king then takes the reports and starts reading the situation.
"Oho, Harry is personally there to oversee the situation." The king shows an expression of surprise of which he smiles unconsciously.
"Highness, if Harry put himself in danger it means..." The advisor nervously states his opinion on the things that are happening.
"Operation dark knight will commence."
"A-Are you sure, your Highness?"
"I believe so. I order thee to send the prepared messages to my four generals."
"R-Right away your Highness!"
The advisor runs out of the hallway without hesitation while the king proceeds to lay himself back on the throne turning his head up to look at the ceiling.
'May the luck be with us.'
The Kingdom of Valkyrie is one of the four human kingdoms that are standing tall and reliable within the lands of the spirit rift. It is surrounded by two fronts, the demi-humans with their destructive yet silent killers and elves, the monster with the power of nature.
No matter, the current situation is not that bad as it looks. The three races aren't going on the full frontal attack but small skirmish within each other. Nevertheless, there are still casualties here and there. As the king recall, news from months ago stating that there was a group of demi-human that manage to bypass their territory.
A massive amount of soldiers were deployed but they were unable to find them. At the same time, one of the magic researchers in the magic academy reports that he found traces of human skin on some of these dead demi-human that they manage to discover and eliminate.
After reading the reports, the king gathered all four generals and told them about the news without spreading it out to the public. The plan was to try to invent magic that will reveal one's true nature. It will automatically destroy the demi-human disguise and allow them to exterminate the intruders easily.
It seems time is of an essence. Unfortunately, the magic hasn't been invented, and the demi-human has started their attack. They know it is the demi-human doing, but they currently have no way to figure out which one is the demi-human unless they torture every one of the people within the kingdom.
Or commence operation dark knight.
The king thoughts are disturbed as a young man step inside the throne hall. He looks to be the replica of the king when he is younger. The man wears a white suit outfit which compliments his short blonde hair and his red ruby eyes that could easily melt the hearts of any woman that stares at him.
"Your Highness, please allow me to command my very own army."
"Son, you do know I can't do that."
"How will people respect me if I don't show some leadership?"
"It's not time yet son."
"Please, father. I beg you. I Smith Hagen, the first son of William Hagen promise you that I won't do anything that would compromise my life."
"Sigh... How about school?"
"Father, you know the course and subjects don't suit me at all. It is too easy."
"But."
"Father, don't get me started on the women that are attending in the academy. They are atrocious, forcing other women to follow their rules. No matter how much I try to interact with the ladies that interest me, the next thing I know is that either they couldn't attend the academy anymore or she would apologize to me saying that they couldn't meet with me longer. If I may be honest, your Highness, let my brother Roy or Jones be throne next."
"Son, we've talked about this..."
"Come on father... Your Highness please!"
"Fine, as a start you will be given a platoon. Tomorrow morning follow me to the barracks to pick your men. All of their identities will be given to you later."
"F-Father... Your Highness! Thank you!" As the man give a slight bow to respect his father, his short blond hair gives a refreshing look as it shook. He dismisses himself and walks out from the throne room excitedly.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
The king sigh, as he stares at his son back. Unlike his second and third son, his first son, Smith Hagen do not care about administrators matters and would instead join with Sophia Hage, his only daughter on military issues. Meanwhile, his second and third son, Roy Hagen and Jones Hagen know about Smith intention about the throne thus they continue to challenge each other.
Unfortunately for Smith, even though his spirit is Commander rank, he only has one spirit whereas Sophia has four of them. Also, Smith does not have the capabilities to fight well.
'Where did I go wrong in raising these children of mine?'
~
"what does a common lady like you want in here?" A muscular middle age man armed with a saber on his side and leather clothes mocked Ava as she got inside the adventurer guild.
[There you go, a typical bully.]
"Don't mind me, I am just trying to find the man that distribute the news," Ava replied while smiling at him.
The man snots at Ava and turns away as he didn't receive the reaction that he wanted from Ava.
'Why does it sound like you know these people demon?'
[Well, you know, there are demons like him in the underworld.]
'Like you?'
[Haha... You're funny.]
Ava proceeds to the receptionist counter and asks about the news. The person in charge passes the quest form to Ava without bothering to ask who she is.
'Hmm, the person that distribute the news set himself as anonymous.'
[You could bribe that receptionist to tell you who was it that done it.]
'As if it would be that easy. In any case, now I know that someone is targeting my father position. The only question is who is it.'
[That isn't important now is it? You've got to find a new inn, possibly someone that would let you live inside their house.]
'Hmmm...' Ava looks at her surrounding, her lips slowly turn upwards and confidently walks to the receptionist counter once again.
~ Half an hour later
[What the hell are you trying to do?] Connor shakes his head left and right in disapproval of what Ava has done.
'I don't think I have the guts to be that shameless and ask someone to let me live inside their house. Anyway, isn't it fine? This way I would have the excuse in staying outdoor rather than booking a room to stay and risk getting caught.'
Ava decided to register herself as a member of the adventurer guild. She concluded that it would be best to trust the adventurer guild rather than an ordinary inn that could easily be bribed. Ava will need to show her identification to register to be a member and also to book a room in an inn. She might as well trust the guild that places themselves in neutrality among the church and the royalty and hope for the best that they will not reveal her identity.
Ava grins to herself while taking a look at her new identification card of being part of the adventurer guild. The magic card that could confirm her new identity to save herself from being caught when she is checked during her return from any mission. The name 'Anon' is written on the card as her nickname. The card also only activates when the owner holds it hence, anyone will know that it is not yours when the card color, initially blue changes to red.
'G rank, so everyone starts low.'
Fortunately, the guild does not check their member's spirit rank as it allows anyone to join. There are three main categories of mission that anyone could partake. The first is the gathering mission. It could either be ingredients of nature or the specific body part of a monster.
Next is the quest to hunt monsters that have attack the surrounding village or they find out that a particular species has overpopulated that it would overwhelm other eco-system.
Last is the escorting of goods or merchants that wish to travel to another kingdom or village. The payment is the highest as it involves going out for a minimum of three days to a month of preparation.
The other thing to note about being a member of the adventurer is the position and role that each member specialize.
*Mage - Usually chosen by an individual that has a spirit rank that is higher than a knight.
Warrior
Archer
Healer
Supporter
Scout
Tanker
*Carrier - Involves carrying all of the party baggage and loots.
It doesn't matter that everyone has a spirit of their own. The next crucial thing is to have the vision of how to employ the power and how much mana they can utilize from their body. The last thing is the dependence of the talents that each person holds.
Another example, a person with interest in using a bow will most likely be able to imagine and use magic that could increase his or her accuracy or allows them to buff the arrows, either in speed or strength. Anyone else could do it. They just need to learn and master them and lastly have the minimum amount of mana to activate it.
Ava put her role as a mage as she realizes that she can make as many icicles as she wants and it won't tire herself. Connor informs her that she is using his mana on behalf thus she will not be affected at all.
When Connor asked.
The surrounding mana will be absorbed to aid in the creation of the host magic.
'Her only disadvantage is if the area she's in doesn't have much mana or there's an object that could empty the surrounding mana.'
'Look demon, isn't that Nigel?'
[What are you talking about? How could..... Yeah that's Nigel.]
'I'm going to follow him. Well, you're going to follow, and tell me what and where he is going.'
[You do know that he got his spirit flying around too right?]
'Yeah... I kind of forgot about it.' Ava stops herself as she remembers about how other people have the similar existence as the demon that is currently possessing her.
[You... Great, he went into the alley. Hopefully, he doesn't recognize you.]
'My bad, time to gather supplies, if I were to spent my life out in the woods, I got to prepare myself.'
Before sundown, Ava manages to get all of the supplies ready and on her way to the adventure guild to get a mission to have an excuse for her to go out from the kingdom.
"Buzz off old lady!"
Ava hears the commotion in a far distance within the alley.
Three middle-aged guys are speaking to an old lady with a harsh tone.
[Ava, walk away. Ignore them.]
'Shut it, demon.' Ava increases her walking pace and stealthy approach the group in front of her. Her disguise changes as she got closer to the commotion. Sharp icicles with a handle at one end are formed at each of her hand ready to be thrown at the enemy in front of her.
Ava didn't know why she wants to help the old lady in front of her. Her body moves unconsciously furthermore emotion of anger rises from within her heart.
'Sigh, quest creation, defeat the three men and force them to run away, optional to kill. Within 30 minutes'
[Confirming quest - Incapacitate or kill the three men in the alley - Timer 30 minutes.]
'Confirm quest.'
[Quest has been confirmed.]
"Fuck off, before we make you."
The three guys snicker at each other, before long one of the men starts chanting.
[The man on the most left is chanting.]
'Got it thanks.' Ava throws one of the icicles on her hand. It lands perfectly on the man left calf. She then proceeds to transfer the other icicle in her left hand to her right side as it is her dominant hand.
"Ack!! Ouch! W-What the hell?"
"OUCH!"
"What's your problem, little girl!? She's your grandma?"
The second man didn't expect to be hit on his left calf as he turns around to see the culprit. As the two men start to limp about, the third man shouts at Ava.
"The next one is going to land on your throat." Ava glares at the man. She opens up her palm to show the clear icicle.
"Tch... Come on let's go. Her spirit is stronger than mine."
Fortunately the three men back away from the old lady.
You gain 100 creation point for completing the quest - Incapacitate or kill three men in the alley
'115 creation point huh...'
"Thank you, young lady." The old lady slightly bows as she shows how grateful she is.
"You're welcome. It's dangerous around these parts of the building. You shouldn't walk around here."
"You are such a courageous young lady."
'Sigh, another problem arises. Why does trouble follow Ava?' Connor facepalm as the old lady is, in fact, another beast folk in disguise.
