Old Grimlore was ecstatic. His heart pounded, his knees nearly shaking in pure anticipation. Everything was set. Grimlore had scoured the lands for the ingredients, delving into the most obscure and forgotten legends to find his answers. And here his blood, sweat, and tears laid! They said it was foolish! They said it was insanity! They said it was impossible! And yet he was here about to do something no creature had ever done, something even those who took on the mantle of Gods would not dare tread on. It was the ultimate taboo, the great 'do-not', of which the bravest of warriors or demons could not act upon.
Life.
Not of the false kind that Necromancers procured, of their brittle skeletons and fallen beasts, or even of Spellbinders, who enchanted great spirits to forge a puppet! No, it was to create true life - living, breathing, and sentient! Grimlore bore a great grin, then readied himself and spoke out.
"Identify."
A blue screen appeared. Detailed within it were countless precious ingredients, some so rare that the ancient Demon Emperors or Human Heros would go mad with envy and jealousy. Even Grimlore salivated as he once again looked through the list of his dreams. They were all legendary items obtained from some of the most obscure or dangerous regions of the world, such as the Bloodthorne Dragon Horn. He picked it up, and marveled at its extreme beauty, shining a bloody crimson that dyed the room in it under the oil lanterns. It was a rarity which could only be harvested from the recently slain corpse of an adult Bloodthorne Dragon.
These ingredients were carefully placed around the room, which itself was buried deep underground where no one could interfere. In the middle laid a stone golem, a medium for the new life to take place in. It was literally an amalgamation of various stones mined from the mountains and was certainly no stonemason's masterpiece. Grimlore had shaped it himself, for only he knew the various spells needed to reinforce it for the new soul.
Grimlore tucked away from the horn, knowing no that the time was right. He channeled mana into his hands, and a burst of dark lightning seized the stone golem. The golem lit up, as the emanating brilliant light struck the various ingredients. They too burst out with a brilliant light, and they started to transmit and fuse with the stone golem. Grimlore burst out laughing. Soon, he told himself, that all the fools who shunned such discovery and advancement would be regretting it all.

Grimlore responded gleefully at the blue screen. He felt the drain of the sheer amount of Mana needed, but he was not known as the 'Sage of Insanity' for no reason. His Mana Reserves were massive, and the plethora of Magic Crystals he procured would replenish it when he was low. Everything was going well. Very well.

Time dragged on as the transmutation climbed every so closely to completion. Grimlore had not felt a single disturbance in the spell since it's casting, but he always stuck to the 'No news is good news' idea and continued on without any hindrance.

Then, Grimlore felt as if everything came tumbling down. His magic, moments before so carefully controlled had suddenly seized upon him. He felt his body lock up in the burst of pain, but the experiment had it much worse. The ingredients, charged up with so much Mana now had no source of power and suddenly pulled in every strand of it from the immediate area. Grimlore felt every drop of it being torn from him, and not even the powerful Magic Crystals were spared from this fate. Then the ingredients continued to complete the spell, mindlessly pouring in the gargantuan amount of Mana into the golem. It glowed even brighter from the massive spike in Mana intake, and Grimlore had to turn away his head in order to not be blinded.

'Shit!' Grimlore thought. 'How could everything go so wrong!'
He didn't know why everything collapsed so suddenly, but that didn't matter to him as he tried to escape the room. Grimlore found no success, because without Mana he was exhausted and weak, for too much of his old body had deteriorated from old age. Then, he noticed something in his cloak, tucked away where it shouldn't have been.
'Shit! Shit! Shit! Is that the Bloodthrone Dragon Horn?!'
Grimlore fumbled the horn out, but it was too late.

The light completely blinded Grimlore, now finding it hard to stand in front of the massive waves of Mana. He stumbled, then came crashing into the floor. His heartbeat soared rapidly, and he struggled to breathe, but he still wouldn't accept this fate.

Grimlore desperately clung to what consciousness he had left, but the battle was lost in seconds. He lay limp in the room, in which the swirling powers still greedily sucked out everything.
