Chapter 1 – Always look on the bright side of life.

[I hate my life.] Was what I was thinking to myself when I was unjustly imprisoned inside my crib. My resistance to this; in the form of gurgling and flailing, only seemed to amuse my warden of a maid.

Who; for some reason, seemed hell bent on repeating “What a cute little lord you are, yes you are.” To me over and over again whenever I attempted my resistance.

I would be more annoyed, but her cheery smile and dimples just make her too damn cute to be annoyed at. That along with a maids outfit; with way to many frills, and chestnut hair that comes down to her waist, just makes her too cute to measure.

But alas, [Why must Fortis be so cruel as to have my mind be awakened into a babies body. My pride as an adult is already ruined from this torture of having no control of this body basic natural functions.]

However, even with my feeble resistance and self lamenting, the lure of my soft crib once again beckoned me to sleep. [Well at least the Castle is nice to look at, although my room could use a lick of paint.] I grumble in my mind as I wander into a deep sleep.

[I must admit the morning sunrise is strangely beautifully in this new land.] I ponder to myself from the lap of my mother on my bedroom porch. Mother meanwhile was humming one of my favorite tunes that I had heard off thus-far.

[Mother does look remarkably beautiful even with her somewhat plain appearance in the morning sunlight. Maybe it's because of the bond between mother and son, but nevertheless, her light blue eyes on her oval face, spotted with freckles and framed by her fiery red hair hung loose down her back, does give her a certain charm.]As I snuggle closer into her embrace.

Then the morning screams from the dungeons came as the guards shift changed and the doors were unlocked. [Hell, even the screaming and moaning from the dungeons don't affect me as much as it did as when I first came here. Plus, between the my mother's humming and the birds song, it added a nice contrast in the background.]

But, such scenes were always short lived as mothers humming always put me to sleep quite quickly. Her soft parting words “Sleep tight, my beautiful boy.” Always gave me a sense of security before I drifted of.

[Well this is new.] I thought as I was rudely disturbed from the normal joyful sight of my mother, to what can only be described as a Juggernaut of a man in enough steel plate to make any knight blush; with a nice red and black color scheme painted on. I also noticed an intricate white dragon etched on to a red background directly in to the shoulder plate, with the dragon spiraling around a black sword.

[I'm losing focus here. Think Siegfried who is this man: is it A) A Kidnapper; no I'm only a couple months old, so not many people should know about me, or they would of already attempted to take me.

B) A relative; well in that case wouldn't my parent be nearby overseeing and bragging to them about their new bright, healthy and cheerful son.

Wait, speaking of parents I haven't seen my father yet. That could be it, he is nobility and nobles do wave swords at each other during this kind of era. Cocking my head side to side while I thinking I came up with an ingenious plan. [Only one real way of find out, act cute and flail about.]

And after several seconds of 'acting', I didn't even get a twitch out of the suit of armor. So I decided on the next course of action. [Well maybe if I ignore it, it'll either go away or do something.] So intending to go back to sleep I begun to close my eyes. However, the sound of clanging armor soon discouraged that action, instead I got to witness the suit of armor attempting my resistance technique mid-air.

My mother walked in at this time, light flashing from her eyes while she approached me. Meanwhile, the suit of armor was beginning to float higher. “I hope the bad man didn't scare you Siegfried. Want to see me punish the bad man?” She asks as she picked me up and booping my nose.

[More entertainment.] I giggle and gargle nonsense towards her to show my approval.

However, before the next act could begin, the suit of armor decided it was time to speak out in a very rushed yet deep voiced. “Now, now, dear. You remember what happened the last time you played around with me using your magic.”

Mother, otherwise unaffected by the man's plea, simply rebuked him. “You were scaring our child.”

“No, he was fine, he even wanted to be picked up. But, being the responsible parent I'm I decided against holding him as my armor might hurt him”

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

[He's got a point.]

“You were just staring at him with your helmet on.” Mother added accusingly.

[Very creepily as well.]

“He was fine, he didn't even flinch or cry. That boy's got my nerves of steel.”

“Hopefully none of your idiocy thought.” She stated while walking out my bedroom with me. “You'll love the garden area Siegfried, you'll want to see a nice place after being rudely awakened.”

My father however had other matters which he had to attend to. “Essmorella, mind letting me down first.”

“Depends, you can either come down naturally or I'm warping you to the bathhouse since you stink in that armor.” She stated before walking out. One heavy thud later and it seems he took the easy way out.

A few minutes of walking later; passing many different types of grey walls, elaborate portraits and pictures, plus some nice rugs lined the floor along the way. When we finally got to the garden, safe to say I was impressed.

A large courtyard spread out in front of us with many different types of trees covering the approach and edges. A large pond with rocks around the edge occupied the center of the garden, with smooth grass spreading out throughout the courtyard.

There also seemed to be a menagerie of wildlife residing here: ranging from birds nesting in the trees, a variety of fish swimming in the pond and what seemed to be a stone Golem attempting to blend in with the rocks near the pond shore.

Mother decided to occupy one of the more comfier lounges around the pond, she then begun to hum one of the sound that she knew I enjoyed, and in such a magical place, her soft but beautiful voice took on a magical appearance as the surrounding area came to life and seemed to be even more vibrant.

A few hours later, after a quick bath and nap. Mother was taking me through a different part of the castle that I hadn't been to before. [Though in my opinion it still looks the same as every other part of the castle; a lot of Grey and the occasional colorful rug.]

Soon enough though, we arrived to a large stone room; which was supported by eight giant stone columns and walls decorated with various pieces of artwork, spaced out throughout the room, which could comfortably hold a hundred odd people.

Around one of the few fireplaces stood my father, around him were two comfortable throne chairs with a mahogany table between them. [Seems that mother and father intent to have dinner with me attending today.]

Once the maid; Sara I believe announced our presence to father. He turned around to meet our approach, and now that I get a good look at him that, the deep voice I first heard from the suit of armor seems to fit him perfectly.

Towering over my mother's smaller frame, he seemed to be at least six foot odd tall with the body to match it; really does show the parallel towards my mothers petite frame. Other than the unkept beard and short cropped hair framing his rather squarish face, his skin look surprisingly delicate, almost as if he wasn't a warrior at all, his grey eyes also suited the pale delicate skin, which contrasted quite nicely to my mother's fairly tanned skin.

Smirking to himself, he calls out in a teasing tone towards mother. “You know the men are going get confused if you keep bullying me every time I come home.”

Mother just chuckles to herself while she responds to his teasing. “Well if you didn't act like such an idiot then I wouldn't have to train you would I dearest.”

This just caused him to laugh as he stood in front of us. “Wasn't that half the reason you fell for me. The other obviously being my dashing looks of course.”

Mother just rolls her eyes at his statement. “Yes, it was the dashing good looks that won my heart, and not because you scared all my other suitors away.”

After his slight teasing he turns his attention to me and softly says “So this is our son. He looks much better now that the helmet is off. Mind if I hold him.”

“Sure, just be careful with him.” She says to the giant of a man.

But for his size he gently holds me to his chest and I just can't help but sink into his chest with some sort security emanating from him. “The boy knows his father.” Brushing mothers hair between his finger he tells her. “He's got your hair.”

Mother coming towards his shoulder while looking at me states softly. “But he has your eyes at least.”

“It'll make him a real lady killer when he grows up.” Pride visible swelling up in his eyes.

Mother scoffs at this, but she doesn't lose her smile. Tapping his shoulder. “Come Heinrich, Siegfried seems to be nodding off, let's sit somewhere a bit more comfortable.”

Father just grunts in acknowledgment, never taking his eyes off me, almost as if he thinks I'll just disappear into thin air. [I could get used to this happy family life.]
