Conference of the curious

After the summoning, the trio starts cleaning up the summoning circle. Whilst doing so they talk about the things that have happened just half an hour ago.

Anna: I am grateful that this turned out so well. Otherwise, we would have been in a pinch here.

Ferro: Yeah, it is sort of unexpected, the Demon was much more docile than the legends say, I hope he isn’t the pacifist type, and we don’t know what is up with that dark magic.

Liz: The dark magic sure sounds interesting. Later I will start digging a bit in the library for it, maybe I can find something.

Ferro: Surely your father can give you access to the family library, right? He was collecting lots of obscure books from what I have heard.

Liz: It’s not like I haven’t tried to get in. Last time father wouldn’t even let me near it. He just told me that I am already reading enough and should stop thinking about it.

Anna: You should check the campus library first before you make any moves that could get you on the bad side of your father. The books he has could just be useless to us so we should check our other options first before we resort to this.

Ferro: We could just ask the Demon about it, you know?

Anna: No, if we do that, he might get the sense that we are weak and try to exploit us. We should get ahead of him and know his strengths in case he turns against us.

Liz: I think you both have a point. Maybe there is another way. We could perform the research by telling him to show us some of his power. We would just tell him that we need to know if he is strong and see if his level is enough for our needs. This way we don’t appear weak and find out about his power.

Anna: Sounds good. Ferro your mother owns an arena, right? Maybe we could get a private training session and let our new Demon friend show off some of his power?

Ferro: My mother would be delighted to hear that I want to practice there should be no problem getting access to the arena. If I play it right she will probably let us do it at night. I just have to tell her that I am embarrassed to train in front of others but don’t want to bother her and she will probably say yes.

Liz: I will prepare some instruments to measure his status. It won’t be able to show a lot, but we might get some information if he is hiding something.

Anna: We should be cautious though. We know you are in danger, especially at night. Preparations are needed to make this as safe as possible. A guard from your house to the arena and back is probably a good idea. We can’t be cautious enough right now and we should tell Memento that you are the priority for now.

Ferro: I am afraid to say it, but you are right. With my mother being in the situation she is in right now she couldn’t take losing me and would probably do anything for my safety.

Anna and Liz come from both sides behind him, and each lay a hand on one of his shoulders.

Anna: We are here for you. The death of your father wasn’t easy on you either, you know that.

Ferro: Thank you both. I will ask my mother about the arena as soon as I head home. It is late we should probably finish up soon, or we will raise suspicion.

Liz: You are right, we were talking for too long. I don’t enjoy walking around in these robes, can we finally take them off, Anna?

Anna: Oh, we didn’t have to wear them for the ritual I just thought it would add to the atmosphere if we wore them.

Liz: I must admit it was fun to wear them, but couldn’t we have chosen a different room than the attic in this summer heat?? I have been sweating this entire time, I am surprised Memento didn’t just leave because of the smell.

Ferro: I was afraid to say anything, but it is horrendous. You should take a bath the moment you come. Better even! Jump in the next well. Even though it will be poisoned afterward at least this way we will be the only ones to have lost our sense of smell today.

Liz: Piss off, the smell you mentioned probably came as much from you as it did from me.

Anna: Can we just agree that we all smell to some degree and need a bath as soon as possible?

(Liz and Ferro in unison) Shut up!

The three of them head home and drop off Ferro at his home.

One could silently hear something in the darkness desperately babbling about what the hell dark magic is.
