Just as Jansen saw the blade of his enemy inch closer to his neck, about to decapitate him, he made a silent prayer to his System, “You are the Demonic Soul Reincarnation System and all you’ve done this entire time was to have me gather the souls of the dead for you. Ever since you helped me reincarnate from Earth, I have killed plenty for you and I still never got a reward. I became the enemy of the entire Cultivation world because of you. Now pay, up. I refuse to believe that this is the end.”
- Ding! The reward will come after completing death-
A smile appeared on Jansen’s face as the blade finished its decapitating motion. His head rolled in the air a few times until it tumbled on the ground before coming to a stop, the light in its eyes was gone…but he was still smiling.
“A mere golden core gave me so much work. Ptui!” Said the old man as he spat between the two body parts that were still gushing blood.
Several other men and women also made their way toward this old man who seemed to not even enjoy the killing of the number one enemy of mankind.
“Sect Master Karlux! Congrats! You’ve secured the kill. It seems we all have been after his meticulously crafted clones. But if you don’t mind me asking, Is the reward offered by the Northern cultivation alliance too little for you to show such a frown?” A middle-aged man, a Nascent soul Elder of the Righteous Heart Alliance named Markus Merak said.
Sect master Karlux then pointed at the smiling head saying, “Why don’t you look for yourselves and tell me if I should be happy or not?”
Slowly a somber atmosphere enveloped the entire group as they saw the smile of Justus’ head.
This time the Righteous Heart Alliance that spanned several continents had issued a bounty. They had been on the hunt for what they called a rogue soul cultivator who was killing and collecting the souls of his victims on a huge scale.
At first, they thought that it was a new organization of the demonic alliance that was doing it because the murders were happening on multiple continents at the same time.
Such a thing was scary for most people. The fact that an organization comprised of soul cultivators was out there struck fear even in the old monsters who had broken through the nascent soul stage.
It was common knowledge that soul cultivators were the rarest of all cultivation branches. You’d be lucky if you could even find one on a single continent let alone thousands in the entire Righteous Heart Alliance territory.
But the scope of the murders told a single truth: the perpetrators were at the very least at the Golden Core stage. So far no Nascent soul deaths have been found.
Scrying and divination were used in all the ways known to pinpoint the moment in time when this serial killer could be finally neutralized.
Because the higher-ups of the Divination School had managed to find out that it had all been a one-man show. One man who had thousands of clones or puppets working for him, it was then easy to concentrate their efforts on finding that one needle in a haystack.
Finding one in millions sounded preposterous, but cultivators were a resourceful bunch. All that was needed was for some obscure cultivation branches to get together and think of the problem at hand.
The Unseen Eye Sect, the most powerful and only Divination and Scrying sect, provided a Prime Soul Scrying spell. After deliberation, their elders had managed to come up with it after analyzing Jansen's clones. The goal was to find the Prime soul controlling them.
The Hammer God's Scions, a sect of burly Spirit Blacksmiths, imbued the Prime Soul Scrying spell in a Spirit Compass they made.
The compass was made in a way that after leading them to the mastermind, the needle would disappear if the Prime Soul had been killed, that way every Nascent Soul who had one such Spirit Compass would then know if the mission had been accomplished by someone else.
As Karlux burned the corpse with his spirit fire, he really hoped that it was the end.

Somewhere else in the universe…
In a small village of the Void continent...
A baby was opening its eyes to the world for the first time.
The scream that the parents were awaiting never came and just the lost and curious look the baby gave them, showing a hint of innate intelligence was enough to trigger a witch hunt...but not for these quirky parents much to the midwife's undisguised terror.
A man who looked like a beast in human skin roared, "Look at the spark in his eyes. This is the reincarnation of a God, I tell you." His scarlet hair danced in the air as the silver aura around him churned like ocean waves.

Jon Sen held his son in the air towards the afternoon suns as he kept roaring like a beast.
As she saw how her husband was being childish, the woman who had just given birth to Jansen only shook her head helplessly for a brief moment as the midwife held her hand saying, "One last push for the last little one, Madam. You'll get all the rest you dream of after."
Yes, this small village believed in reincarnation. They believed that the souls of their ancestral gods could take over their bodies and live in their world temporarily to accomplish miracles. The stronger they were, the longer they could stay at a time.
Jansen was still trying to understand how his reincarnation had happened.
He didn't recognize the sky at all, there were two suns.
'Was this another planet entirely?'
He thought.
The planet of beginnings he remembered only had one sun, and while it had seen so many powerful beings being born one after another, no one had ever managed to reach another planet outside...something about Spatial Storms and void Dwellers being the only obstacles to even the so-called Gods of the Cultivation world.
But Jansen's first life was on Earth, where when he died after pushing an old man out of the bus's way, was offered a chance at reincarnating in the cultivation world by the Demonic Soul Reincarnation System.
You would think that he was set for life in his new adventure with the help of a trusty System...but, no. It only asked him to collect the souls of those he killed after giving him the so-called newbie package.
Thinking that there was another reward on the horizon didn't motivate him at first. After all his situation was a good one. A loving family that heavily dotted on him, a nice childhood anyone would envy, and genius-level talent in cultivation.
It was only when by some obscure twist of fate his family was massacred by an old enemy of his father. He survived with the help of a servant and escaped to the neighboring city after three days and three nights of non-stop running without rest.
Without money, he had to quickly adapt. A low-level foundation establishment cultivator of his age would be well treated in every sect, but he cared too much for his life and with an invisible enemy after him, he could only embrace the darkness of the world and live in hiding among the shadows.
Then started his career as an assassin after he concluded that the system was his way out...another reincarnation...another fresh start.
The Demonic Soul Reincarnation System had never told him that he could reincarnate any time he chose. It only kept urging him to gather as many souls as he could day after day.
If he knew that all he had to do to find himself in another life was kill himself, he'd kill himself a few times just to use the pain to punish himself for being so stupid.
'The system used me to get more than a million souls, let's see why.'
'System, show me my status.'

Of the prizes his newbie package gave him, the Myriad Stars Cloning technique was the most overpowered one. Truthfully, Jansen himself had no idea how it worked.
This ability seemed broken in a sense.
All he had to do was think of it and a clone with the same cultivation as his original body would appear.
What’s more, is that he had complete control over it.
No matter how many clones he made at no apparent cost to himself, just one mind was needed to control them all.
His current limit was a thousand clones, but thanks to his system, as he surmised, his mind wouldn’t explode because he was living a thousand lives simultaneously.
Then came the Visage of the Faceless Fool technique.
This particular technique came with the Mask of the faceless fool, an illusory mask that existed in spirit form and could only be stored in his soul.
It allowed him to change his physical appearance in an instant from the recorded avatars he had stored into it.
As long as he took his time, he could create another identity for himself and the more details the more convincing all the way to his attire.
Of course, this was the same for all his clones who would be created with a copy of his soul which contained the Mask of the faceless fool in the first place.
The Fangs Of the Green Ghost technique was an imitation of the main divine ability of soul Creatures known as Green Ghosts.
These soul creatures looked like an ethereal greenish humanoid, and they all looked chubby. Their diet consisted of only souls, and the more souls their stomachs had digested the stronger they were.
Normal cultivators or most mortals would all have roundabout ways to digest souls, but even the most potent soul technique would still waste 70 percent of the energy.
Green ghosts were feared because they wasted nothing and having their spiritual soul blood parasitize your soul was the best way to breach the gap and not waste anything eaten.
If Jansen, after being parasitized by the Spiritual Green Ghost Soul Blood, had started a massacre with the sole purpose of digesting the souls eaten, he would have long become the strongest of the cultivator world and braved the void to travel the universe unimpeded.
But the system had to whisk the souls away before he could digest even a piece of them.
The fact was that now, he had been born with green eyes. His body was showing signs of being influenced by the mutation of his soul into a green ghost.
Perhaps with his aura and hair turning green altogether and only the system knew what powers a green ghost with a living body held.
The shop’s interface then appeared.

‘I wonder if I should risk it and refresh since it is free for the first time or buy each first.’
‘Yeah, all these items are one of a kind for me right now. I should get as many as I can, but what if I can refresh for something better? More than four million Soul Points sounds good but with how expensive these things are, I’ll burn through it easily in a few days…and I am still a baby right now.’
‘I should’ve killed more cultivators back then…sigh.’
The baby Jansen lay in his crib frowning like an adult would, contemplating his next move.
‘Where would I even hide the Underworld Judge?’
‘System?’
[This world is a world of spiritists who enter contracts with spirits, sometimes enslaving them, or becoming friends with them. I suggest you wait for your fifth birthday when it is your time to contract with your first spirit to exchange for the underworld judge. Enjoy your life for the next five years. Don’t forget, you still have to eat souls or you’ll go crazy. Your Green Ghost’s soul has mutated slightly.]
‘What? Have you ever seen a crazy baby? How will my parents ever know I need souls to feed on?’
[That was never an issue. I brought you here exactly to solve that. Use your eyes properly. You see nothing right now, you were born just a few hours ago, after all.]
‘Use my eyes properly it says.’ Jansen pouted. He then concentrated on his green eyes, ‘What a load of bullsh…’
For a moment there, he felt out of breath,…and scared at the same time.
A new world had just been shown to him, and now that he seemed unable to revert his sight to what it was earlier, terror was an understatement to explain how he felt at that moment.
‘This world…is…crazy.’ He said as he managed to close his eyes, but his green pupils kept shining through his eyelids.
There were souls everywhere…some were human-like, others animal or some humanoid.
Just in his close proximity, he counted at least twenty of them.
As using his green eyes tired him, he didn’t realize he had overexerted himself when he fell asleep.
