Everyone starts to panic.
What does this mean, some players say as they look to me to lead them.
I gaze around and put on a brave face; I'm unsure. But It can't be good. How about We figure this out together.
Someone yells from the crowd of people. No NPCs could mean a lot. that Means no quest, no leveling up fast, and no shops.
The players ask, how do we even get out of here anyway?
If I had to guess, it's not going to be easy. I tried everything, even the override code, but nothing worked. I'm starting to think the game got hacked, but as I say that, I hear a voice say no, it hasn't. The game is the way it is supposed to be. I look around at the players. Did someone say something? They all look at me, confused. Never mind. I say. Has anyone checked for mobs to see if we can even level?
Some of the players say we'll get a party together and go check.
Then someone yells didn't you come from the outside? Wouldn't you know?
I gaze around and find the person who said that. Give Her a smile and a look that could kill. It's all a fog. I started in the forest and, as I said, tried everything to get out, even the override code. I found out I couldn't log out and lost everything, that there was no transporter. So I had to run here. To be honest, I don't remember how I got here, and I was a little freaked out at the time.
Yeah, some of the players agree, I started outside the city as well, but I don't remember getting to town.
Me too, another says I was outside the city, then walking, and then in town.
Another speaks up and says, I started in the city.
I say to myself, now that I think about it, this place is a universe in digital form, so I wonder how many more people are stuck in this game.
Okay, Everyone, let's wait for the others to tell us what they found and see what they say.
It takes a full 15 minutes for the group to get back. So, naturally, everyone was worried. Then we see some of the group coming around a corner of a small building. They're sprinting fast, and I can see its trouble.
So what did you find outside the city, and where are the others?
They're all out of breath, but one of them finally gets out. We... w...here A...tta..cked.
Okay, calm down, take a few deep breaths, and tell me what's going on; you were attacked by what.
After a long pause, she finally gets out what she is trying to say. A Crap ton of monsters, That's what. There's more than I've ever seen out there.
What level are they? I ask to get more information.
What does that matter? People are trapped out there and need help, so let's go.
I was scared, but I yelled Who wants to save these people?! with a fist held up high and a cunning smile that could cut glass.
Players need our help!!! There is a possibility you could die. And if you die, you might not come back to life. So what do you say?
I'll take a chance, someone in the crowd yells, Raising their fist. Me too, says another. a few more fists go up, and I hear they don't stand a chance if we all go.
As I Gaze Across the Field of Cat people, they're all holding their fists up, shouting, let's get um.
I'm dragged off stage and hoisted up. Hey, let me down, I yell. Slinging my body like a horse would if possessed, the crowd of players won't listen to me or can't hear me. Everyone is hooting and hollering like a horde of Vikings and running for the nearest exit.
As we get closer to the city's entrance, I see a building I didn't see outside. Had it been there when I looked toward the town, it was gigantic. But as I get thrown this way and that, I take my eyes off it, and it's gone; how could it be gone? The thing seemed to touch the sky, and it had an evil air to it. It seemed like I had seen it before, and as I thought about it, I felt feelings id soon like to forget.
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
As we get to the city's gates, I feel like a rag doll. The entrance is big and bulky enough for three semi-trucks to come through.
Okay, everyone, I'm good to walk from here. This time the group heard me. The players suddenly got quiet. Was something wrong I needed to see? I ask, can you all Let me down as I wiggle back and forth. They just let go, and I tumble to the ground. I say I'm okay as I get up and brush myself off.
Looking around at the crowd, I see their mouths are open, and I can't help but turn around.
There are ruins, old buildings, and junk everywhere. The wilderness has all but claimed it back.
And standing on them waiting for us is a horde of starter mobs staring us down like we are their next meal.
The scene was gruesome. The people we came to save were dead, with nothing left but meat and bone. The horde was all teeth and fur soaked with blood; there was a mist of red in the air. The smell was horrific; It smelt like pennies that had been in the sun for a long time and damp hair.
The first mob I see is a Rabbit, the ones on four legs but a little mutated to stand on two. They're the size of a pit bull, with large jagged teeth as sharp as nails and mouths dripping with blood.
There is also a flower mob dipping in blood. You would overlook it till you got up close to it. It looks like a venus fly trap, but with a sunflower bloom, it was big enough to eat a person.
And A flying coy fish in a water bubble, I'm guessing the water around it was magic. I mean, this thing is massive.
It is the size of ten large coys. Their teeth are as jagged as a pirana. They have nothing but red in their water.
I didn't know there were such crazy graphics in this game. Someone says
There wasn't. I say, almost throwing up there was never any blood
does this mean they're dead? Someone else says
A person finally starts screaming like we all wanted to, then more start to cry and yell. I feel like that's something I should do, but I keep the tears back.
As I hold back the tears, the same voice I heard before says, " Let it all out. It's okay.
I say, who's there?
The voice says, let us say I'm your guide through this endeavor. A quest of sorts, and your mission is to come to find me.
Where are you? I say. Can you tell me what's going on? Everyone wants to get out. Is there a way?
That I will not say till you get to me, but if you find or when you find me, you will know most of what is going on.
Where are the NPCs? Is there any way to level up? Do I need to level up? Come on, answer me. You have to be able to say something. How do I find you if I have no idea where to start.
Okay, the voice says ill give you a hint. I'm not on the planet you are on. You'll have to find a starship, but it won't be easy. I have to go now. Just remember to find a ship and forge your way to me.
Hello, hello dangit, I yell what's going on. I have so many questions. and where do I find one?
Everyone was looking at me funny; some were more worried than others, And some asked if I was okay and said I was talking to myself.
I'm Fine, I say. Then I think to myself, so what now?
