The Game Begins

Staring at that message, I determined that it would be best to come up with a plan right away. I began to think of a plan. Currently, I have no way to get money, thus I would need to borrow spellbooks. With my "Learning Curve," I should need no more than one day to learn the basics in the Tier 1 books. I should at least be able to learn enough to graduate from Tier 0 to Tier 1.

This world has magic divided into tiers. Once you learn five Tier 1 spells of a certain school you are considered a Tier 1 mage of that school. Certain Tiers are given nicknames to help differentiate them. For example, Tier 1 is "Barely A Mage," Tier 5 is "Half Mage," and Tier 10 is "Full Mage." There are higher grades than that but I am not currently concerned with that, what troubles me is my new understanding of the downsides of taking multiple schools. What matters is your overall Tier, which is the average of all your tiers. That does not affect someone focusing on one school of magic, but for someone with two or more schools, it could spell disaster.

A Tier 9 Conjuration mage who decides to expand their repertoire by becoming a Tier 1 Evocationist, would be considered only a Tier 5. This was a considerable handicap as it would limit their position in the Mage Alliance, as well as the missions they could take on. This fact has not changed my mind. I have already determined that the best path for me will be taking multiple schools to high levels.

It was then that an alarm shook me from my thoughts. As I listened to the loud beeping trying to discern what its purpose was.

"Ah right," I thought, "Highschool. Classes. At such ungodly hours."

As I opened the closet door, my eyes fell on the school-provided uniform. Without much thought, I reached for it and started getting dressed. However, before leaving, I couldn't resist the urge to take a quick look at myself in the mirror. After all, this was the first time I had seen myself since my reincarnation, and I was curious to see if anything had changed.

To my surprise, I looked almost the same as before. My light brown hair was a bit longer now, falling just below my shoulder blades instead of the usual tip. The color of my eyes had also shifted slightly from oceanic to a more river-like blue, but they were still as bright as ever.

I pulled on the uncomfortable, brown, long-sleeved shirt that was part of the uniform. As much as I wanted to change into something more comfortable, I knew that it was necessary to wear it. After all, it was a symbol of my status as a Tier 0. To complete the look, I draped the black cloak over my shoulders, ready to face whatever challenges the day had in store for me.

I rush over to class, it is important to the plan to absorb as much knowledge as possible. As I walk I try to scan "my" memories for information about the class. As I arrive at class, I swiftly open the door and am greeted by a nearly empty room. In the room stands only one figure who is quite familiar to The Old Quinn, Professor Elody.

Professor Elody is a commanding figure with an air of authority that demands respect. As a powerful wizard, it's clear that she's confident in her abilities and is not afraid to use them when necessary. Despite her young age of 25, she carries herself with a poise and maturity that belies her years.

She is always impeccably dressed in professional attire, ready to face whatever challenges may come her way. Her medium-length dark brown hair is always neatly styled, adding to her polished appearance. Her piercing green eyes are sharp and observant as if she's constantly analyzing her surroundings for any potential threats or opportunities.

She looks at me, her eyes wide, "Q-Quinn! You are here extremely early!"

"Sorry," I apologized, "I guess my clock was wrong again."

"It's alright," She regained her composure,

"Do you mind if I stay?" I asked, she looked at me questioningly, "I'd rather not leave, just to come back shortly after. Plus I'm hoping to catch up on reading,"

She looked at me with a puzzled expression before a loud laugh escaped her lips. She then noticed that I was not laughing with her, and she quickly regained her composure, "Yes that would be fine,"

I sat down at my assigned desk and grabbed a book from my bag. It was a relatively large book that had taken me a while to find. It was 15 years of city history, specifically about crime. Detective work has always been my passion, no matter what situation I am in that will always be my end goal. Ten minutes into my reading a new person walks in. My roommate: Colette Winnr.

Colette Winnr exudes an air of confidence that draws attention to her striking figure. As the valedictorian of her class, her sharp intellect is evident in the way she carries herself. She has a penchant for Gothic fashion, which is evident from the short black dress she's wearing with lace sleeves.

Her angular features are framed by long, blond hair that's usually tied back in a ponytail. But today, it cascades down her back, adding to her allure. Her piercing gray eyes seem to hold a hint of mystery, always assessing her surroundings and weighing her next move. And her full, pink lips have a natural pout that only adds to her alluring qualities.

It's hard not to be drawn to her undeniable beauty, but there's more to her than just looks. With her intelligence and confidence, she's a force to be reckoned with. As I find myself lost in thought, wondering what it would be like to ask her out, my cheeks flush with embarrassment. I quickly turn away, realizing that she's way out of my league.

"Come on Quinn pull yourself together," I thought to myself. I lightly slap my cheeks to refocus myself.

Shortly after, the rest of the students shuffle into the class. As the bell rings Professor Elody stands up and prepares to teach.

"Good morning everyone," She began, "Today I would like to check your progress on determining your school and path. Please raise your hand if you have already made your decision"

Most people raised their hands, but Colette was the first to be called on, "I have chosen Conjuration, Path of the Titan"

A few more people are called on until the next interesting person: Able, Cain's brother, "Alchemy, Path of Research,"

Everything was going according to plan until I heard someone say, "Divination, Path Of The Future"

The person who spoke was Warren Peters, the Old Quinn's bully. There goes my plan of learning those three schools for free. No one else in the class had any plans of going into divination. That does slow down my progress slightly, but it doesn't matter. I'll work around it, divination isn't immediately necessary to the plan.

The teacher then calls my name, "Quinn! Do you have any ideas as to what you will do?"

I smile slightly, "I plan on forging my own path. The Path Of Forensics," People around the room snicker when they hear that the tier 0 wants to forge her own path.

Professor Elody smiles and silences the room, "What school will that be in?"

"I'm not sure what all it will encompass, but as of now..." I pause looking around the room, "Conjuration, Alchemy, and Divination,"

I smirk as the room descends into chaos.
