Chapter 1 - The Mission

A light is shining too brightly upon me. I'm confused; I could have sworn I died. Is this heaven?

Am I finally being freed from the world that imprisoned my life? The life I lived was so hard and ended up amounting to nothing. My name was Mitsuyo Akane.

I was a guy simply being overworked day to day, and finally when I got my rightful promotion, my jealous co-worker went and killed me by pushing me off the roof of the company building.

Unfortunately, I was only 34 when I died. Of course, I died right before I had the chance to truly find love.

Well, this sucks. At least I didn't die a virgin, that's one thing I can surely be proud of, right? Eh, who am I kidding?

I can't feel my arms or legs, and I cannot see. It feels like I'm floating while moving nowhere, this can't be heaven, right?

I don't know how long I've been floating here. I can't tell the difference between the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and even years. What's going to happen to me?

Will I be stuck here for all of eternity?

That's when I suddenly heard the commanding voice of a being I could not recall ever meeting.

The sound of a woman's voice rang into my ears like an echo. It was very obvious, without needing to see her; that she was no human.

I could only listen, not even able to voice my opinion or my questions. The god simply pushed this very troublesome title on me and hoped for the best.

Suddenly a black darkness consumed the light which had blinded me before. I could suddenly feel soft patches of grass underneath my skin. The sound of the wind breezing past my body as I lay here taking in all of the facts. With a slight blink, I open my eyes, while also lifting the top half of my body upwards to a proper sitting position.

I looked upwards at the night sky with many everlasting stars filling it. The dark sky glowed with a purplish tint instead of the natural black that I originally knew. There had been 3 moons in a triangle-like formation, and that's when the information truly dawned on me.

Ah, I had awakened in a world unknown to me with no clue on what to do or expect.

That goddess screwed me over, putting me in a world I know nothing about, and on top of that in what seemed to be in the middle of the night.

If this is anything like the games or anime I saw in my past life, wouldn't the night be the time when mobs were most proactive?

I looked around frantically to make sure before trying to stand; my legs quivering as I had yet gotten used to the feeling of my legs once again.

I can't even stand, let alone run. What am I supposed to do in a dangerous situation?

"God this situation is messed up"

I said out loud, complaining to myself. However, I quickly realized the sound of my voice knowing that this isn't what I used to sound like. My deep voice of the past suddenly became soft. I then looked at my hands, noticing the pale skin tone I have with the skinny build.

I was so confused, before looking down at my naked lower half and realizing my most important tool had been taken away. What the hell even was this situation; aren't I supposed to get a select menu on these things?! My face had a slight red tent of embarrassment while inspecting myself, was this wrong?

Of course, the worst part of it all was indeed...my chest-

Damned Goddess, she could have at least given me a bigger chest. I'm as flat as they come!

I soon sigh at my disadvantaged and smaller build before trying to take my first step. It was harder than I remember. To me, it felt like I was taking my first steps as a newborn.

I quickly resolve myself, continuing down the hill towards a forest. No way the goddess put me somewhere dangerous right?

Steadily walking through the woods, I use the trees as perches to continue and hopefully find some food. Praying that I won't starve to death.

I soon hear the slight rushing of water, making my way over as I get used to walking again.

Eventually reaching it, I looked down at my reflection as the moonlight began to shine ever so brightly above me. I had already noticed the white hair before, however seeing it whole made all the difference. It felt like my new long hair was glowing in resonance with the moon itself.

My golden eyes sparkled as they reflected off the water looking back at me and of course, combined with the cute face of my new young appearance. Maybe the goddess did bless my new body. Of course, my suddenly stunning moment came to a halt when I heard the bellow of a creature more ferocious than a lion.

I quickly look up, looking around with a slightly scared look. As I scanned around, I locked eyes with what seemed to be glowing red eyeballs across the lake. A chill ran cold down my spine as I quickly got up, thinking I must run. Suddenly a screen popped up in front of me as the ferocious beast crawling on all fours began to move out of the darkened patch of the trees.

Low Fear Resistance (Passive): Learned

Low Fear Resistance (Passive): On

On what looked to be a computer screen in front of me, I could see that a skill had been learned. However, before worrying about the screen, I quickly turned around and made a run for it. I want to live, and there is no way I can die on my first night coming to the world I'm supposed to protect!

The four-legged beast resembling that of a panther began chasing me. It had black fur red eyes, and two red horns on its head.

The beast was chasing after me, of course at a faster rate than I could move [https://img.wattpad.com/c646abcd76dbb8f5071dfdc90e7442309b5b88d0/68747470733a2f2f73332e616d617a6f6e6177732e636f6d2f776174747061642d6d656469612d736572766963652f53746f7279496d6167652f30535f4d764b52454230345973413d3d2d313437373134383532342e313766356463303831346530663166343430333035373737383234322e6a7067?s=fit&w=1280&h=1280]

The beast was chasing after me, of course at a faster rate than I could move. Continuously trying my best to maneuver around the trees. It was all for naught as the monster broke through the trees behind me, crashing down onto my back with my body underneath its massive paw.

Damn, when did I become the damsel in distress? I could feel its breath above me, as it opened its mouth ready to consume me; however, in a last-ditch effort to live, I reached towards my computer screen and used what looked like the only skill the goddess gave me.

< Holy Pillar of Light: Activated >

I felt pretty pathetic crying out in what felt to be my last moment, however, a massive beam of light quickly came crashing down on both the monster and me, consuming our bodies whole. The monster roared out in agony before falling over, dead.

Tired of course, I got up with my knees shaking and my legs quivering. I turned around to face the dead monster, and the realization hit me that I could have easily died a second time. I wondered what the goddess truly saw in me in which she would give me such a task to save this world.

As I was calming myself down thanks to the help of my fear resistance, I noticed the sudden boost in levels. Multiple level-up notifications began popping up and of course. My fear resistance also went from Low to Advanced.

Title Gained: The One Who Danced with Death: Unlocked.

Although it wasn't a title I was happy to see. I sat with my legs crossed downward and back on a tree while looking at the screen to learn everything I needed to. For starters, I unlocked an abundance of what looks to be Light and Holy Light spells, which I'm assuming is because that pillar was either activated near me or because it hit me also.

I also learned that there are two different types of skills. There are "Passive Skills" which are always active, and "Activation Skills" which need to be activated to use.

Not only that but there are even skills like "Unique Skills" that vary from person to person. These Unique Skills also fall under the rules of Passive and Activation Skills.

I was gifted with 4 Unique Skills, with 2 being Activation and 2 being Passive skill traits. I'm assuming I have 4 due to the Archangel souls residing in me, but I will have to check whenever I meet any actual species that can communicate with me.

(Goddess, please don't let me be the only humanoid in this world that can communicate.)

I then learned that regular skills have grades to separate how strong they are and can get, having a total of 4 levels. Low, Medium, High, and Advanced skills help people differentiate the strength level amongst each other I assume.

Finally, there are "Exclusive Skills" that belong to a single race or occupation and only those of that race/occupation can use said skills. However, just like the other skills, Exclusive skills can differentiate in power and skill level.

I then went over all of my skills descriptions before sighing, as although I wasn't much yet, I soon could be pretty strong. I will have to pray to the goddess for such amazing race-exclusive skills.

After looking over my status screen, I quickly felt tired and laid on my back. A sigh of relief exited my mouth before I turned to my side passing out right next to the monster. Without my knowledge, more people saw the holy pillar than I thought. Both the good and the bad, and this one moment would change my life from here on out.

I closed my eyes, falling asleep with the monster's body right next to me beginning to dissipate in a glowing red shine.
