"Need a hand, Zoe?" Shaun's voice rang in her ears.

Shaun used his bespoke weapons that he himself coded for the game, and diverted the other opponent's virtual attacks away from Zoe, while Zoe was busy in one-on-one combat with Emma.

But Cain was using more energy than him, and soon he was going to lose all his battle stamina. The battlefield became a chaotic symphony of clashes and strategic maneuvers, each member of the trio grappling with their respective opponents.

The virtual battleground morphed back into the Crystal Canyons, and the announcement resounded, "A thrilling display of skills! Lunar Shadows emerges victorious!"

Confusion etched across their faces as they looked at one another. The holographic displays flickered, and Shaun approached them, an inscrutable expression on his avatar.

"You did well out there," Shaun acknowledged, but his words only fueled the trio's uncertainty. Did he know that his team would be announced victorious? He surely didn't show any signs of surprise over his victory.

They were transported back into the arena and the emcee announced once again: "In this unforgettable round of the Virtual Nexus games, Lunar Shadows wins with their amazing endurance and spectacular performance! Onward to the next challenge!"

As QuantumUnity grappled with questions about Shaun's allegiance, everyone was greeting and congratulating the Lunar Shadows team. Shaun and his friends appeared tired yet peaceful, as if they had expected this result.

"Hey guys," said Zoe, "remember Shaun was summoned to the Headmaster's office yesterday?"

"Uh-huh?"

"I wonder what they talked about... We were not summoned by the headmaster despite winning three times."

"You think Shaun knows more than we do about the games?"

"Yup. In fact, I'm pretty sure he does."

As they were watching the Lunar Shadows team accepting congratulations, Emma and Cain from the Binary Blitz were watching them from afar.

"The girl received some help from Shaun," said Emma.

"Shaun, huh? That Shaun guy is up to something," replied Cain.

"We have to find out what everyone else knows before this thing gets too deep."

"Gotta be friendly and ask around, I guess."

"Which will be an entirely new practice for you," Emma taunted him.

Cain's discontent was evident in his face.

"Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for an electrifying spectacle in the upcoming round!" announced the emcee with enthusiasm.

"Electrifying, huh? We'll see," said Cain.
