0 - PROLOGUE: TEAL 01

Teal

Purple and I lock eyes, with her standing in the doorway, and me on my knees, hunched over a bloodied body. I feel myself freaking out, but like… my mind seems to be okay.

Body.

Body!

Dead?

Nah.

Breathing?

Is??

A part of me tells me that my brain is calm, since it’s only pumping out one-word answers to the situation at hand. The other part of me is screaming, since that’s obviously not being calm. I think I’m trying to not freeze up and embrace death right then and there.

Both Purple and my eyes widen. She steps into the apartment, and slams the door shut behind her with a foot. Then she gestures wildly to the body, filled with bewilderment and fear.

“I-I don’t know, man.” The words tumble out of my mouth. “When I came back, she was… s-she was there already.”

“And you didn’t text me…?! Dammit, Teal!”

“I’m sorry! I panicked!”

Purple grunts in frustration, then takes a deep breath. She kneels on the other side of the body.

“She…” My voice is quiet. “She’s not, like… dead, I think.”

“Just soaked in blood?” Purple raises an eyebrow.

“... Yeah.”

“I wonder if its hers or someone else’s.”

“I don’t know if I want the answer to that.”

A moment passes.

“Who… is she…?” Purple’s fingers ghost over the body’s shoulder.

And she’s about to touch it, when a hand shoots out and grabs her by the wrist.

“...”

“...”

Thank goodness the neighbours are all out, because they would’ve filed a noise complaint about our screams of terror, definitely.
