During the Journey
It appeared that my parents had a desire to indulge in shopping for clothes and jewelry, all because of the news proclaiming my exceptional intelligence and its potential to enhance their social standing. In a nutshell, I had transitioned from being a mere commoner to becoming the daughter of a regular noble in these times.
"Look out the window, Ai. Those fields supply food for the entire city. Thanks to them, we can all subsist..."
"Indeed, those fields. The only challenge lies in dealing with the people tending to them," she said, gesturing towards the farmers responsible for nurturing the crops.
Ai feigned amazement as she observed them through the window.
How naive. The concept of superiority doesn't hold sway in this world. Someone who may lack farming skills might excel in magic, and vice versa. Everyone possesses unique talents, and the perception of their worth is contingent on the prevailing philosophy of the era. Yet, here was an individual, born into wealth and sustained by their magical prowess, considering themselves the nation's treasure.
"In the future, you'll be responsible for all of them," my companion remarked, disappointment etching across his face as he brought a hand to it.
"Hahaha, oh darling..."
"They can be insufferable, I swear. But thanks to you, my dear Vivian, I can forget about them," he said, embracing Ai's mother, Vivian, and planting kisses on her neck.
"Enough, sweetheart..."
Ai couldn't hide her displeasure as she endured this seemingly endless charade.
The Carriage Stops in Front of a Clothing Store
The carriage came to a halt in front of a clothing store.
"We've arrived, Aichan," Ai's mother disembarked from the carriage after Kirei.
Before long, the locals would find themselves captivated by Ai's beauty, her innocent demeanor exuding an aura of joy, liberated from the confines of feigned nobility.
"God, she's stunning!"
"Is she the noble's daughter?"
"Shh... That person is Courtenay's lord."
"Really?"
"She seems like an angel..."
Ai, accompanied by her family, entered the store, their pride evident as they showcased their daughter to the city.
"Welcome... Oh, my goodness. What a beautiful young lady," the receptionist gazed in astonishment at Ai, who had piqued her curiosity about her own sexual orientation.
"Ahem... We're in search of suitable attire for our daughter."
"Certainly, please follow me," the receptionist directed them to the back of the store while Ai's mother worked to prevent her father from making an escape.
"I'll be at the corner bar," the father managed to execute his escape plan and offered Vivian a forced smile.
"Let's commence," the receptionist began displaying dresses to Vivian.
"Exquisite!"
"Oh, my... She's an angel!"
"How lovely!"
After trying on an array of dresses for nearly two hours, Ai managed to free herself from her mother, who remained engrossed in selecting dresses for her own wardrobe, and exited the store.
In the City, After Exhaustive Clothes Shopping
"In the city at last, after a tiresome shopping spree. Ahhh, she finally allowed me some respite... I'm exhausted." It baffled Ai that her so-called mother possessed such an ardent passion for dresses. Nearly two hours had passed since they entered...
While these thoughts swirled in Ai's mind, she cast her gaze towards an alleyway and spotted something peculiar. A cat? No, it was a person. Wait, perhaps something more than just a person?
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
What on earth was that? Did cosplay already exist in this world?
Intrigued, Ai ventured closer to the alley, revealing a woman with multiple tails and dog-like ears.
The creature possessed striking features, despite her emaciated and unkempt appearance, with her bone structure, nose, and other aspects of her face being impeccable.
Engaging with the Mysterious Being
"Can you speak?" Ai initiated the conversation.
Upon hearing this, the enigmatic being's initial anger subsided, and she braced herself for a confrontation.
"What do you want? You brat."
"I've never seen a costume like that."
"It's not a costume... I'm a Kitsune. Common knowledge among humans," the creature responded, no longer sensing hostility from Ai.
"Are you not human?"
"Certainly not. Humans, as a rule, are aware of my otherworldly lineage."
Introducing an Unfortunate Revelation
So, there were other races in this world. How fascinating! This world had just become more fantastical in Ai's eyes.
Still, Ai hadn't read extensively on such matters. The language barrier and the subpar storytelling of this era had hindered her understanding.
"Why do you appear to be in such a wretched state? Are you in need of assistance or perhaps hungry?"
"It's none of your business," the creature replied dismissively, turning her head away.
A Brief Silence and a Revelation
Ai resorted to her unique abilities, falling into a momentary silence that prompted the mysterious being to reconsider her response.
"Hah... I suffer from the [Curse of the God]."
"What's that?"
"Explaining it to you would be futile... Yet, strangely, I don't feel a need to conceal it. My instincts may be waning," she sighed.
"It's a curse that afflicts those who've engaged in numerous relations with men. I used to be a slave, violated by two slave traders, which ultimately led to my affliction with the Curse of God, casting me into this forsaken place," she explained, resuming her seat amidst the squalor.
"They told me I have less than three months to live. So, I care not for the manner of my demise... Do you now wish to empathize with me?"
A Disease in a World of Magic
Ai had never encountered anything of the sort within the confines of the mansion, but she was almost certain it was a disease. In this world, magic had replaced logic, and progress had stagnated, with no evolution in over 30,000 years, according to historical records.
Healing magic primarily functioned by boosting the body's metabolism, allowing it to overcome most ailments. However, when the body couldn't do so without external intervention, it was labeled a curse. At least, that was Ai's understanding.
A Closer Examination
Drawing closer, Ai inspected the creature's condition more carefully, noting ulcers, nail abnormalities, and other symptoms.
"Can you open your mouth?" Ai inquired.
"Huh? Why?"
"Simply open it."
The creature hesitated briefly but acquiesced. There was nothing extraordinary inside.
Ai refrained from jumping to conclusions prematurely. False hope was to be avoided.
"Just to be sure, have you noticed any issues... in your lower regions?" Ai asked, careful not to offend.
The question unsettled the creature slightly, who attempted to evade a response by turning her head away.
"If it's obvious... it's the initial sign of the [Curse of God]. A fiery-red patch of skin."
The Revelation of Syphilis
It was indeed what Ai suspected—syphilis!
The young girl couldn't contain her excitement. Meanwhile, the creature, now even more uneasy in the presence of the diminutive enigma, attempted to come to terms with this curious visitor.
Syphilis—a devastating ailment in Ai's former world, an insidious bacterium once deemed incurable. Yet, for Ai, nothing was insurmountable. Magic made all the difference!
"Dear girl, imagine things beyond my sight—"
"I can heal you."
Two simple words.
The countenance of the creature, who had abandoned hope months ago, suddenly brightened. Her eyes sharpened, and she shifted from a half-dead, enraged being to simply an irate one.
"What are you talking about, kid? Stop saying nonsense, why do you believe that?"
Ai let out a small, confident laugh. This was enough to give the nameless young beast plenty of hope.
Unlike fantasy series, in this world there is no such thing as "being a proud knight until the end." Due to lack of education, primitive instincts are much more active and people cling to life much more.
"In exchange, become my personal maid and serve me."
The beast begins to laugh out loud.
"If you can cure this curse, I would even let myself be enslaved again."
"It's not a curse, it's a disease... Probably the one who infected you was that merchant since it is a sexual disease."
"What!? That damn fat man, he couldn't even feel his pinky... Oh sorry girl, it's not something you should hear at your age... But how is it cured? Should I pray to d-"
Ai put her hands on the beast's left arm and surrounding it she began to recite a spell.
[Molecular Exchange: Converting equivalent molecules of H2O to 800mg of C16H18N2O4S...]
"What are you doing?"
"I finished." Ai exhaled after about 15 seconds.
I used almost half of my mana in that small amount... I'm definitely unlucky.
He thought as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"What did you do?"
"I converted the H2O molecules in your arm muscle and vein area to a substance called Penicillin. I didn't have a syringe so I couldn't give it to you like I should... Now it's done. This should be enough." I supplied 200 mg extra in case the substance was not completely digested by his body and thus avoid the margin of error.
"Really!? When will I recover?" The beast began to move its tail while splashing to the sides and at Ai's legs.
"In a few weeks. But you will start to see results in the coming days..." Ai takes two gold coins out of his pocket and hands them to the beast, who would be instantly amazed.
"And why is this?"
"Buy yourself food to survive until you heal. When you do, wash yourself completely and buy clothes suitable for being a maid. After that, come to the Courtenay mansion and tell them that you are there to serve me. Get into the mansion somehow, and I will help you from the inside. I'm only two years old so I can't go outside alone."
"T-two years!? What kind of human are you?"
"Anyway, I'll see you in a few weeks. If you don't come, I'll understand that there was no result and I'll come again to inject it the right way. Do you understand?"
"Y-yes..." Am I serving a two-year-old girl?
"Then, I'll leave. See you later."
Minutes later, the beast would see how Ai was challenged by her parents for being so dirty...
