Push

Push

Marshall should have guessed the day would suck… it always did in the City of Reign, where crime was rampant and poverty forced even the purest of souls into desperation. Not only was it snowing like a bitch, the ground was icy as all hell and he had no coordination. He was going to end up on his ass, he just knew it…

It was actually while he was attempting to waddle home, almost there and just under one of the first of two bridges by his apartment, when someone grabbed his shoulders and slammed into the ice covered wall of the bridge. Their eyes were wild, angry and hungry at all at once, and he knew true fear.

“Money, give it to me, NOW!” they bellowed, their pale faces hard to fully see through the blizzard. He should have given the man what he wanted, but fear was too much and Marshall froze. “I said now, or I will stab you.” And a sharp pressure placed itself on his belly.

It was then that the fear reached it’s zenith, a cage around his mind shattered and a scream burst free from his lips.

A wave of pure force, riding the sound, slammed into his attacker, shattering and separating the ice and snow and sending the man into the other side of the bridge where his head all but exploded on impact. Blood and skull fragments went everywhere, but before Marshall could react, horrifying cracks broke through the bridge. Knowing he had to escape, he ran off, just as the bridge crumbled into nothing.

Shaking, he looked at his hand. “What did I do?”

And then he fainted, energy drained, right onto the soft snowy patch of dirt thankfully available to his left.
