Chapter One

In all my nineteen years of living I don’t think anyone Is as cursed as me.yeah.Meet me.Saoirse Sullivan. The Breadwinner -Technically i earn more than anyone in this

House-and candle extraordinaire.Ever since mum’s death,I don’t think I’ve ever seen dad smile.Dad couldn’t handle mum’s death the way we could. We as in me and my siblings.Dad practically just sits around now with his broken leg and drinks all the time, without a care in the world of what his children were doing.Dad had fallen into depression which soon caused his multi-million business to go bankrupt and shut down.Dad had always blamed himself for mum’s death because he had been the one driving. That day they were going to mum’s sister josie’s wedding which was in Leinster,Dublin so mum and dad had to drive from our home in Connacht,Galway.Mum and dad had been fighting like always,in the car ,which caused them to not pay attention on the road. Then a truck had appeared so suddenly that dad swerved the car and rammed it into a tree.My dad survived with a permanent fracture on the right leg ,which according to the doctors was considered a miracle since he had been the

one driving.well, my mum on the other hand passed away shortly after the accident because the accident caused her a massive blow to the head which was too much to handle for her body.Well this isn’t even the worst part as mum was pregnant when this all happened.Doctors had tried their very best to save baby Cliona but she passed away with mum. This part hurt me and my siblings the most because Cliona had become such a great part of our lives and it hit Sorcha the most since she would always gush about fun it would be to have a little sibling.Me and my siblings haven’t forgiven dad because not only for causing the accident but because of being the most selfish and terrible, father and husband. When i first heard the news I felt broken and wanted die just knowing my lovable and kind mum wouldn’t be with me anymore. Sorcha had sat on the front steps of the porch bawling our eyes out and being consoled by her Siobhan Ronan who was  Sorcha’s best friedn .Now you see thinking at a daughter’s perspective , he had basically ripped my heart out and burned it.He took one the only people who ever understood me and never left me in the dark. Now the only memories i have of her are her photos and the fabulous recipe of Colcannon and champ(which is an irish potato dish)that mum used to make for us every sunday after we came back from the synagogue-yes,we belonged to a small town in ireland called Golden Fields that was the residence to jewish/irish people-.Though we were frowned upon for being jewish people , mum never let us feel ashamed of who we were and from where we belonged from.Though our beliefs never affected anyone in town since the townspeople were mostly jewish , including my bestest of a friend , Johanna Maguire. She has supported me so much, ever since we were one year olds and our parents were like best friends so we were at each others house every day.She was the one who helped me when i needed a job to provide for me and my family when mum died.Dad hadn’t cared of what i did , he just wanted his beer and tv and he would just be set.But if he didn't get it, oh boy he would go full on beast mode.He was a drunk addict and he knew it.Dad was never there for me when i needed him and i hated him for that.Whenever he would come home late from the pub or one of his work parties, he would hit one of us.Mum would know when he was gonna be like this so she would hide us in the closet up in the attic and then take the beating meant for us.Then one day things got really bad, like awful bad.Me and Sorcha were watching a movie in the den and mum was in the kitchen clearing up for the night when the door banged open and dad stumbled in and mum rushed in to see who was at the door.”Sarah bring me some irish ale , you useless bitch”dad yelled.”Sersh and Sorcha go up and hide” she said pushing us and shoving us.We wasted no time and started up the stairs.Just then Sorcha pulled my hand she was holding and fell backward as i turned just in time to see dad grabbing a handful of her hair and throwing her to the ground.I knew I was no match for him but i couldn’t just stand there and let him hurt Sorcha so i yelled at the top of my lungs to my brothers as i got in front of Sorcha.Dad punched me in the face and i fell backward as mum got in front of us both and tried giving him his irish ale to calm him down. But dad pushed her so hard that she flew into the wall and there was a big silencing crack as the painting from the wall fell on her head and in was pretty sure she had died.Me and Sorcha screamed loudly as Liam and Edward had rushed down.Liam punched dad in the face while Edward ran to mum.Dad didn’t even try to fight because of the alcohol. When i saw her i gasped at seeing her beautiful blonde curls caked with blood.Liam had driven mum to the hospital where we had found out that mum had a skull fracture.seeing from these experiences you can infer that life with dad was complete hell and i don’t know why god had to take mum instead of dad.Dad really thinks he is the only one who misses mum .Not one has he asked if we were mentally stable or if we needed help.in other words dad is just basically a deadbeat who drinks around from the same money his kids earn.
