It was all over, all of the Lion guide members and the city council members who attended this ceremony had been killed. This was truly a ‘Red Wedding’ in the end, just not what everyone was expecting. As the Blackburn guide members were cleaning up the mess, taking care of the dead body and the wounded, Kyle and Richard had their chance to talk in privacy.
“So what now ? The biggest and most powerful guide of this city has been destroyed, there will be a big gap of power to be grabbed by everyone.” Kyle said.
“Truthfully I don’t know, I did not think that far ahead” Richard said “But nothing will change actually, we will just be under new management”
“Don’t you mean under your management now? Since technically Rose and Alexander did get married and both families were now united into one” Kyle said.
“Yes perhap so,” Richard said with a slight smile on his face.
“Well if we are telling the truth, I don’t really care who will take charge of this city after we are gone” Kyle said. “But in my country there is a saying Richard, a man’s land can easily be taken but a man’s nature may never be changed. History was written by the victor, Richard, and now the victor is you. Sebastian was not wrong when he said you and him were the same, money and power can corrupt anyone, you are already close to the edge.”
“What are you trying to say Kyle ?” Richard asked.
“A warning to be exact, learn from the mistake of the Lion guide, don’t let power corrupt you like it has corrupted them. You have already seen what happened to them and what I could do. I don’t want to return to this city one day just to watch the people in this city suffer again, no more mother had to abandon her child because of poverty, no more life be taken just because of greed and lust for power, and no more money need to be paid just so that the people here can sleep well at night. I don’t want myself to return here and have to do what needs to be done again, Richard.” Kyle said to Richard. “Good luck, this is not going to be easy but for a man who has already walked among the good and evil like yourself, I wish that you could make the right decision this time.”
Richard stayed silent at the words of Kyle, in the end he could only nod as an answer and a promise.
On the other side of the wedding ceremony, Allan and Rose also had a moment together. The scenery was beautiful. Rose was breathtaking, wearing a white wedding dress. Allan, the heros, walked with his princess that he had just rescued through the rose petals road. Once again, they met each other after Allan and his friends saved Rose's life. Allan remembered all of the good time that he and Rose had spent together, it was true, he had already fallen in love with Rose at first sight. Her charm, her beauty and her personality, it was perfect for Allan, and when he thought that he would lose her, he almost lost his damn mind, for Rose, Allan had shown that he could be braver, stronger than he could ever imagine. “It’s time” Allan thought to himself as he gathered all of his will power to confess to Rose how he felt, how he fell in love with her the moment they met. Allan held Rose's hand and awaited her reply.
“I’m sorry Allan”, those words were like thunder to Allan’s ears, “But I do not share the same feeling about you”. How could this be, he had done so much for her, he had risked his life for her, conquered his fear for her and slayed monsters for her, how come she did not reply to his feelings? “There is already someone else in my heart,” Rose said.
Rose explained to Allan how she had always been in love with someone else, a forbidden love affair between her and her childhood friend. They both promised to marry each other until she was forced to let him go in order to marry into the Leon family, and now that it was all over, she wanted to go back to him. Heartbroken, Allan held his tears and forced a smile out of himself, saying goodbye and goodluck to her for the last time before walking away.
Meeting back with the other, sadness could clearly be seen in Allan’s piercing blue eyes.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“I thought the hero always gets the princess in the end, I am so sorry” Luna said.
“That is just in fairy tales Luna, and I have never believed in them” Allan said, his voice acting as if he was ok, but deep down, everyone knew that this event had broken Allan somehow.
“We should get going right away, Richard said that this main road will take us to the next big city in this kingdom, Notre Dame” Kyle said. The other agreed, turning around to say goodbye to the Blackburn guide for the last time before leaving all of their previous adventure behind.
“Casablanca huh, how ironic” Maria said,
“What do you mean ?” Kyle asked,
“No it’s nothing for you to keep in mind about, let’s get going”. Maria replied.
The journey to Notre Dame would take three days of walking, so that meant the group had to spend 2 nights camping on the side of the road. Very much remembered their horrible experience from the first night they had in this world, Kyle did not even have to mention before the group decided to split into two groups for night guard duty. Allan and Kyle would stand and watch first and the other would rotate around to get some rest.
After a quick dinner, they all went to sleep quickly, only Allan and Kyle were still awake now.
Allan had hardly spoken a word to the other this entire day, this was very unusual for him and of course it could not have escaped Kyle's attention.
“Why do you look so down bro ? I thought you would be happy that the mission was a huge succeed” Kyle said. Allan did not reply, his eyes were staring at the far distance, into the darkness of the night. “Let me ask you a question Allan, do you hate her now ?”
Allan eyes widen for a second, clearly that thought never occur in Allan head “ No, I don’t”
“Then do you regret trying so hard to save her ?” Kyle continued “Did you really do all of this just for her, in order for you to get her?”.
“No, I will never regret saving her,” Allan answered quickly. “ Then you are sad because she doesn't love you back, you feel like you earned her love or that she owes you?” Kyle spoke.
“...” Allan could not answer that question.
“Do you love her Allan ?” Kyle asked, “Yes, I do,” Allan replied. “But not enough to let her feel love on her own?” Kyle said. Again, there was no reply from Allan.
“When you truly love someone Allan, you would do everything you can just so that you could see that person have a smile on their face,” Kyle said “In your heart Allan, is there any feeling of happy knowing that right now ? She is free to fall in love with the one that she truly love, to live her life as she dream off, even though that person is not you?”
“Yes,...” Allan replied as tears run down on his face “I felt so happy for her, when i saw her smile, when she told me about how she could live her life now, to fall in love and to married the one in her heart, when she smiled at me, at that moment, even though I was so heartbroken, I still feel so happy for her, as though all of my hard work still worth it”.
“That’s right Allan, you should be happy for her, knowing that you have saved the one that you love one life, knowing that she may now live a happy life, it is more rewarding than you could have ever imagined, trust me” Kyle said. “You have hold back quite a bit ain’t ya, acting like you are strong and fine, but you don’t have to do it now, I am going out to patrol the area, now it’s just you and the moon, say watch ever you want, do whatever you want, no one will know” Finish what he need to say, Kyle walked away from the camp, patrolling the area around them.
Allan stayed behind, and for the first time after saying goodbye to Rose, he could finally stop holding back. Allan cried, alone in the darkness of the night sky when everyone was deep asleep or was far far away. In his heart there was a mixed emotion of sadness and happiness that was just tearing him apart. For a man who told himself not to believe in fairy tales, to not to believe in miracles, he was really just lying to himself. Deep inside, he was someone who really wanted to believe that it was all true, that all good deeds will get repaid, that if he lives a good life, a heroic one then there will be a fairy tale story for him in the end. After a good while, Kyle returned, Allan had stopped crying, he looked as though he kind of got back to his old self again.
“You won’t tell anyone what happened right?” Allan said
“Not if you won’t tell anyone what I said to you” Kyle replied. The two noddingly agree, Allan even managed to crack a smile on his face.
“Hey Allan, don’t ever lose that side of you ok, that warm and goodness instinct that you always have, keep hold of it and never let go.” Kyle said “It might not always be right to lead with your heart rather than your head, but you can’t never be wrong”.
The sun had finally risen and at last morning came, the team could continue their journey once again, a new day awaited them.
