Prologue

“Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed the way they watch you, whisper when you appear. They think you’re going to save them.”

“Well, they would be correct.”

I was in my lab. My immaculate, picture perfect lab. It was brightly lit, with a gleaming stainless steel table running nearly the length of the entire room. White cabinets lined the walls, punctuated by floor to ceiling glass cases that display a combination of equipment. It was beautiful. The space is errorless. This is a place for everything, and everything is in its place.

My brother was in front of me. He was an unassuming human. The type of person who wouldn’t look out of place if you passed him on the street. With his dull brown hair and eyes and ordinary fashion sense, he was someone whom I didn’t have the slightest of respect for and he knew that. Which made me wonder why was he so worked up and trying to criticize me?

“I mean. Why would you say that? It’s already bad enough that everyone sees you as this genius guy who will maybe awaken some amazing superpower. Now, everyone sees you as a future hero and possible savior of humanity.”

“You’ve spoken wrong. I am the savior of humanity.”

Suddendly he started shouting at me,“ARE YOU MAD? ARE YOU REALLY THAT DUMB?”

“You seem to have forgotten that I am a genius among geniuses.”

“NO YOU ARE NOT! YOU’RE DELUSIONAL!” He was crying now. He was sobbing uncontrollably. It was a miracle he even had enough control to yell without choking up.

The way my brother was screaming at me felt uncomfortable.

He was yelling at me, for no reason. He was the crazy one. Not me.

To think this all happened because I let myself love.
