Chapter 17: Foundation Day

A stage was created in the middle of Prana's city square of this future 'old town' district, where these traditional houses would be preserved. A greater number of people than Manusya's first arrival in Prana was present. Nearly ten thousand people were in attendance. The invitation for this event was given to every tribe and village, and now not only their representatives had arrived, but normal villagers as well. If that day three months ago was the Osmanians' declaration of independence, today was set to be 'Foundation Day', the day when the new formal government would start their operation and programs such as the new education curriculum. Manusya and the Convocation of Osma members were on the stage. The Aksha was given a podium where he also installed a microphone and speakers so his voice was heard by everyone.

"—And thus conclude our introduction of the founding members of the Convocation of Osma," Manusya said, he just finished introducing the convocation members to these thousands of people in front of him.

Everyone in attendance murmured and cheered. Manusya found it odd but he realised these people did not have any concept of clapping their hands together repeatedly when presented with a speech or a piece of entertainment.

Manusya unfolded a scroll and placed it in front of him as he readied himself to speak to the mic. "I will now read the founding constitution of our nation."

Everyone waited with bated breath. They knew this was set to change everything. In the past three months, they had busied themselves with military training, farming and construction. In a sense, their new society had not yet begun.

"But before I read," Manusya lowered the scroll. "I must establish a fact that we require a new calendar to keep track of months and years. And thus, I will preemptively establish the foundation of the Osmanian Calendar, consisting of twelve months in the year with thirty days in each month. We are currently in the middle of autumn and thus we are in the tenth month of the year. To be more precise, the tenth day. This month will hereby be monikered 'Osmark', in celebration of our foundation day. This year will be the first year of this new calendar." Manusya said.

Murmurs in the crowd again. They were all wondering about the need to name the months or the years. The Osmanians knew the cycle of seasons, and that one year started in the winter and ended in winter again. But this calendar system was something new to them. But with the wisdom of the Aksha, they thought it must have been something positive.

I discovered the existence of a calendar system used by the people on this continent from observing the life of Gavrin in Hydaria. It seems to be based on the widely-practised religion of the continent. But I refuse to use the calendar system of the colonisers, and the people of Osma would not have liked it as well. Manusya thought as he observed everyone's reactions.

"Do not worry, the new calendar system will be taught in our new education curriculum. With that established, I will now read the constitution." Manusya brought up the scroll again.

"Osmark the 10th, Year 1 of the Osmanian Calendar. The Preamble of the Osma constitution.

The Osma was founded upon people that consists of different tribes and villages. A moment of rejoicing in our freedom against the colonisation of a foreign power has established the inherent right for a nation to exercise sovereignty and not be shackled by a colonial power. By the blessing of the universe and forces of nature which gives us life, the nation of Osma is established under the ideals of a united, sovereign, prosperous, just and fair government which seeks to put the lives of its populace above all else;

Consequently thereto, the new formal government led by the Convocation of Osma is formed to protect all people of Osma and our independence, greatly improve the welfare of the populace, educate the people of the nation, ensure social and civilized justice, and the national goal of an establishment of a world order based on freedom from colonialism, perpetual peace and enduring cooperation. The nation of Osma is an ideal and a construct that is based on the non-discrimination of ethnic group, religion, sexuality, gender, and beliefs—established for an ethnonationalist nation goes against the ideals of the constitution, and the future of the Osma nation may present the arrival and introduction of immigrants who seek to join our Osmanian motherland." Manusya read the preamble of the constitution.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

There was some commotion regarding this. Some people understood what was said and that knowing there was a greater world out there, the existence of other colonised people stoke their anger and made them want to help them as well, including letting them into Osmanian lands if they had nowhere else to go. While others were uncomfortable by the fact that the nation would accept foreigners as their own, and an existential racial crisis may occur.

This is normal that they may become uncomfortable because of that. But the new educational curriculum will hopefully open their minds more. Manusya thought.

"I will now begin reading the full constitution," Manusya said over the mic.

Manusya read all the chapters of the constitution in order as follows:

Chapter I established Osma as a state and a sovereign nation that would be led by the Convocation of Osma and based on a rule of law that permeates the justice that it would maintain.

Chapter II introduced the organisational structure of the Convocation of Osma, their founding Seat members and the election process as well as the possibility of the inclusion of future Seats.

Chapter III dealt with the Seat of Aksha in particular, where it was established that the seat of Aksha would be the highest executive power in the nation and act as the de facto leader of the Osma nation.

Chapter IV established the formation of different state departments that would be led by each Seat member of the Convocation, such as the Department of Sustenance, Department of Education and so on. This chapter explained the duty of each department to work for their goal and continuously develop the nation forward.

Chapter V firmly plants the rights and protection of the humans of Osma, their human rights and equal status under the eye of the state and law.

Chapter VI deals with the military and army and their duty to protect Osma against internal and external threats.

Chapter VII seeks to introduce the national goal of the nation to create a new world order free of colonialism and war.

Chapter VIII deals with Education and Culture, where both the new educational curriculum would be mandatory for everyone and every child. The culture of the Osma and future inhabitants was also prioritized, and the proliferation of the Arts was as important in developing the nation as other formal processes.

Chapter IX establish the possibility of future amendments and the addition of new chapters in the constitution should the need arise and the will of the populace aligned.

Manusya took a deep breath after reading the long constitution. He looked to the skies above him, where several drones were filming the crowd and the podium.

I know everyone's heads must be bursting because of this, but this formality must be done. The video capture of this event will be used for future education. Manusya thought.

"Thus concludes the current founding constitution of the Osma nation." Manusya folded the scroll again. "Today will be the day that everything that we have stated and planned would be set in motion. This includes the new education curriculum, the placements of individuals in specific occupations and further construction of city districts."

The people cheered in happiness. While they did not fully understand everything that was said, they did hear some appetizing keywords such as the improvement of their welfare and living conditions. If what they saw with the houses could be replicated, they were happy to work towards that goal. They were excited to see what the finished city would look like.

"One more thing!" Manusya said to the microphone, this time he smiled and got rid of his more serious face. "I hereby establish a competition for all artists and musicians. Our new Osma nation will need a new national flag and anthem. I want all of you to submit your ideas to the Seat of Affairs, Evui, and we will conduct a careful selection of which flag or song would be chosen to be our new symbols. This is your chance to have your name be recorded in the annals of our history. The deadline is in five months. Good luck!" He said in a jolly manner.

Everyone cheered again and was even more excited. They conversed amongst themselves, artists, musicians and painters were elated to hear that they had roles to play in this new nation.

"Without further ado, let's start the founding day celebration!" Manusya said to the mic as he raised both of his arms to the sky.

Fireworks shot up to the daytime skies. People celebrated their new nation, now established formally. They knew their work ahead of them was tough, but just for today, they will party.
