Chapter 14: Prodigy

Chapter 14: Prodigy

Roselle closed her eyes, her focus shifting inward as she attempted to tap into her lightning energy with more control. The vivid memories of her past mistakes haunted her, but she knew she did not to repeat them.

Her hands crackled with electricity, but this time, she willed it to remain under control. The energy surged through her, seeking an outlet, but she resisted the urge to release it all at once. It was a delicate balance, like holding back a thunderstorm on the verge of unleashing its fury.

As her energy reached 50%, Roselle's heart pounded. She felt the power coursing through her, and for a moment, she feared losing control again. But she steadied herself, channeling the energy into a controlled burst.

With a deep breath, Roselle released a controlled surge of lightning that crackled and arced toward the elemental pillars. The bolts of electricity struck the pillars, causing them to shatter and dissipate. Roselle watched with a sense of accomplishment as the elemental prison dissolved, freeing her from its grasp.

Dr. Kintovar's sharp eyes remained fixed on the intense battle unfolding before her. Her mind raced, analyzing every move, every interaction between Roselle and Runebelle. As she observed Runebelle's astonishing control over her magic, a whirlwind of thoughts and possibilities swirled within her.

'This is unprecedented,' Dr. Kintovar mused silently. 'Runebelle's mastery over her abilities is beyond anything I could have imagined. Her energy affinity is unique, and her control is exceptional. There's so much potential here, so much untapped power here...'

'Runebelle,' Dr. Kintovar thought, 'you may just be the most significant discovery of my Career as a scientist. With your powers, we can achieve great things, and I will ensure that your potential is fully realized.'

Roselle had just shattered Runebelle's elemental pillars with her newfound control over her lightning energy, and Runebelle was left with a feeling of surprise and curiosity.

As they stared at each other, the air seemed to grow with unspoken questions. Roselle's gaze was filled with resolve, while Runebelle's eyes held a hint of sadness and a longing for answers.

Roselle finally broke the silence. "Runebelle, I don't know what's going on, but I can see that you're not like me or Risebelle…There's something different about you, something special."

Runebelle's eyes widened with a small level of surprise upon hearing the word "special" from Roselle, it was as if a spark had been ignited within her.

Roselle advance but left her massive cannon behind. Instead, she focused on channeling her lightning energy, forming a crackling sphere of electricity around her body. "Are you ready for this?"

Runebelle summoned her elemental pillars once again.

Roselle charged forward and created an electrifying atmosphere. She moved with purpose, her eyes locked on Runebelle. The green energy within Runebelle's pillars swirled and danced, ready to be unleashed.

With a burst of speed, Roselle closed the distance between them, her body surrounded by the pulsating sphere of lightning.

Runebelle’s sent all three of her elemental pillars hurtling toward Roselle. The pillars, infused with the power of fire, ice, and earth, created a dazzling display of elemental energy as they streaked through the air.

Roselle braced herself for the impact, her body surrounded by the crackling sphere of lightning. She could feel the tremendous force of Runebelle's attack approaching, and she knew she had to act quickly.

As the elemental pillars closed in, Roselle pushed herself to her limits, trying to draw upon her lightning energy while maintaining control over it. The electrifying sphere around her expanded and crackled with intensity. She channeled more and more energy into it and tried to meet Runebelle's attack head-on.

The clash was explosive. Runebelle's elemental pillars collided with Roselle's electrified sphere, creating a chaotic and dazzling display of elemental forces. The raw power of the collision sent shockwaves rippling through the training area, and the very air seemed to vibrate with energy.

Roselle's efforts to control her lightning energy were evident as she struggled to maintain the delicate balance between power and control. The lightning surged and crackled, but she held it in check, preventing it from spiraling out of control and draining her energy completely.

Roselle continued to hold her lightning energy in check. She maintained control over the surging power, preventing it from spiraling out of control. The clash with Runebelle's elemental pillars reached a stalemate, with neither side gaining a clear advantage.

However, Roselle's control had its limits, and as time passed, the strain on her grew more heavily. The red hue in her lightning energy began to intensify, a sign that she was nearing her breaking point.

Roselle's efforts to maintain control over her lightning energy were pushed to the limit. The tension in the air was palpable as the energy within her surged beyond 200%.Roselle's eyes widened in alarm as the lightning energy surrounding her began to take on a dangerous and unstable crimson hue. It crackled with unrestrained power, threatening to spiral out of control. Despite her best efforts, the immense energy she had gathered was becoming too much to contain.

In a desperate attempt to regain control, Roselle pushed forward, directing the overwhelming surge of energy toward Runebelle. Her body moved with incredible speed as she rammed into Runebelle, their collision creating a shockwave of energy that rippled outward.

“Urgh!” Roselle let out with her eyes closing.

The unstable red lightning energy exploded with blinding intensity, engulfing both Roselle and Runebelle in a searing maelstrom of power. The training area was filled with blinding light and deafening thunder as the explosion rocked the entire facility.

System Message:

Roselle: 45%

Runebelle: 30%

Both combatants are still in the battle, but they have sustained significant damage from the explosive clash of energies.

Runebelle was the first to rise from the aftermath of their explosive clash. She hopped up with surprising agility, her eyes fixed on Roselle. Despite the damage she had taken, she remained with the same gloomy face as usual.

Roselle, on the other hand, struggled to get back on her feet. Her body ached from the intense battle, and she could feel the drain on her lifeforce. But what suddently caught her attention the most was Runebelle's resilience and lack of concern for her own injuries. As she glanced over at Runebelle, her eyes narrowing with realization, she noted the difference in their lifeforce levels.

'How can she be so... unemotional, even in the midst of battle?' Roselle pondered silently. 'I've never seen anyone like her, and her powers... they’re a close Rival for Risebelle’s... But why does she seem so detached from it all?'

Runebelle's sudden shift in tactics caught Roselle off guard. She swiftly went back to using her cannon and began firing off shots with incredible speed, moving closer to Roselle. The barrage of energy blasts left Roselle momentarily stunned, her instinct urging her to rush to her own cannon.

'Wait a minute,' Roselle thought, her eyes darting between Runebelle and her own weapon. 'Something doesn't feel right. Charging toward my cannon might be a mistake…so instead…’

Roselle made a reckless charge toward Runebelle, but was met with the barrage of energy shots. She managed to dodge some but couldn't avoid them all. The shots grazed her, leaving her with minor injuries, but she gritted her teeth and pressed on.

As she closed the distance, Roselle saw Runebelle summoning her elemental pillars, and a realization dawned upon her. She knew this was her chance, her moment to turn the tide of the battle.

With fire set ablaze in her eyes, Roselle unleashed the last of her magic. She tapped into her lightning energy, channeling it into a powerful and risky maneuver. It was a move she had never attempted before, but she had no other choice.

"I have to do this," Roselle thought, her mind focused on the task at hand.

With a surge of electricity enveloping her, Roselle made her move. She leaped high into the air, defying gravity as she soared above Runebelle's elemental pillars.

Roselle's body crackled with electricity as she descended upon Runebelle from above, her, giving her no time to react or counterattack. Roselle unleashes lightning-charged blows and struck her with a relentless flurry of punches and kicks.

Each strike from Roselle was infused with the intensity of her lightning energy, and they landed with precision and force. Runebelle attempted to defend herself, but Roselle's assault was unyielding.

In a stunning display of agility and skill, Roselle's final, powerful kick knocked Runebelle off her feet, sending her directly to the ground. The impact echoed through the training area, leaving Runebelle momentarily stunned.

Roselle stood over Runebelle and made heavy breathes. The battle had taken its toll on both of them, but Roselle's relentless assault had given her the upper hand.

Dr. Kintovar watched the battle unfold with a sense of amazement. Roselle's display of physical capabilities had surpassed her expectations, and it left her in awe. This was the same Roselle who had once fought against her older sister, Risebelle, and now she was displaying a level of skill and agility that seemed to have grown exponentially.

'Roselle has learned and adapted,' Dr. Kintovar thought, her analytical mind at work. 'She must have gained valuable insights from her battles with Risebelle. It's remarkable to see her applying those lessons.'

As Runebelle lay on the ground, her wide-open eyes still carrying the weight of sadness, Roselle approached cautiously. She could see the state of Runebelle, her lifeforce now reduced to a mere 15%.

"Runebelle," Roselle said softly, "can you still move? Are you okay?"

Runebelle's response was a weak nod, indicating that she could still move despite her injuries. Her sad face remained unchanged.

Dr. Kintovar stepped forward, a proud and approving look in her eyes.

"You both did exceptionally well," Dr. Kintovar commended. "You've shown great potential and adaptability. I have no doubt that you'll excel on our next mission."

Just as they were about to discuss the next mission, the massive door leading outside swung open, and in walked Risebelle, her presence commanding attention.

"What's our next mission?," Risebelle asked.

Dr. Kintovar turned her attention to Risebelle as she entered the room, her eyes searching for answers. She asked, "Oh, if it isn’t Risebelle! How did it go? Did you at least gather the essential data we needed?"

Risebelle turned somber. She lowered her gaze and replied. "Unfortunately, I had to abort the mission, Dr. Kintovar, but I did not come here empty-handed. The Magic Academy is using their mana extractors on the forest. It's become far too dangerous for me to operate there on my own."

Dr. Kintovar's brows furrowed with concern as she absorbed the information.

"I see," Dr. Kintovar responded. "We can't allow the Magic Academy to interfere with our plans. We'll need to find a way to neutralize those extractors and secure the forest. Risebelle, I'll need you to lead the next mission to deal with this situation, but first, all of you could use some rest. Go and Rejuvenate for your next mission."

As they all began to leave the training area, Dr. Kintovar held Risebelle back, her concern evident in her eyes. She observed the young mage's condition and couldn't help but feel a surge worry.

"Risebelle," Dr. Kintovar said gently, "you're down to 5% Vitals. That's dangerously low. Now tell me, who did you encounter during your mission? You don't need to be so tough with me. Tell me what happened."

"Who did I encounter?" Risebelle echoed, her tone dripping with bitterness. "I'll tell you who I encountered. Those arrogant, self-righteous humans, that's who! They think they can just waltz around with their magic and their holier-than-thou attitudes, and expect us to cower before them."

Dr. Kintovar shook her head. "I know you wouldn't allow yourself to get caught and damaged by any regular-classed mage and be damaged to less than 25% without being able to retreat. Now tell me, WHO. WAS IT."

Risebelle hesitated for a moment. She wanted to choose her words carefully. She finally began to speak.

"It was...”
