Chapter 5: Robo-Kitty time!

Chapter 5: Robo-Kitty time!

I blinked my eyes open, trying to make sense of where I was.

I lay on the ground of another white-tiled room. But this one was massive, about as large as a giant football stadium. The closest wall to us was the only wall not covered in white tiles, this wall was a giant mirror that made the room look twice as large.

"What the hell happened?" I muttered, my voice sounding distorted to my own ears.

"The last thing I remember is that whack-job doctor siccing his robots on us," Leo grumbled somewhere to my left.

I turned to see two of the robot-human-cat things sprawled out beside me, one of them sprang to life and looked directly at me.

"Holy crap shit fuck!" said the robot as it looked directly at me, its voice sounding exactly like Milo's voice.

Wait! The crazy bastard had done it.

I stumbled to my feet, surprised at how easy it was, the pain was gone. I beelined for the mirror, and staring back at me was a robo-kitty. I raised my hand up to my face, the robot feline in the mirror mimicked my movement.

Leo and Milo joined me at the mirror. Their expressions showing a mixture of shock and disbelief. Or, at least that's what I think they were expressing. It was hard to read their robotic expressions.

I took a closer look at our new forms, trying to wrap my head around the insanity of it all. We were like some crazy mish-mash of high-tech humanoid robot with the features of a cat. Sleek dark grey metal covered our bodies. Our faces had angular features that were clearly feline, complete with pointed ears and slitted eyes that gleamed with a neon glow.

That was the only difference between the three of us; our bodies were identical, but the color of the neon and certain accents of our bodies were our only defining features - Milo glowed blue, Leo was green, and I was rocking an orange.

And then, I noticed the tail! Long, flexible, and covered in the same metal as the rest of our bodies, it swayed behind me with a mind of its own. It was like having an extra limb that I didn't know how to control yet.

"What the hell!" Milo whispered, poking and prodding at his robot body, moving and flexing his joints with curiosity.

I didn't know what to feel. Part of me was furious with the doctor and wanted to destroy him. But there was another part, a part that felt the power coursing through my new body. It only felt like just moments ago, I was on the brink of death. But now, I felt... Good. Not just good. I felt incredible, like I could take on the world.

I looked over to Leo; his new face appeared to be writhing in anger.

"How are we feeling?" The booming voice of Dr. Purkins echoed through the speakers scattered around the room. "I bet you're feeling amazing!"

I glared at the speakers, my tail whipped uncontrollably from side to side.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"What the hell did you do to us?" I yelled.

Dr. Purkins let out a low chuckle, the sound rumbled through the room. "I told you, I gave you a gift. A chance to become gods!"

Leo stepped forward, his green eyes blazed. "Gods? You have turned us into abominations! You will change us back now!"

"I'm afraid that's not possible," the doctor replied, his tone eerily calm. "But don't you boys worry. I've set up a little tutorial so that you can see what a gift you have been given."

As he finished speaking, the ground began to shake and shift as the large white tiles on the ground began to move; creating a hole. Then, from the hole crept eight robotic tigers. The same tigers that had held us down. The same tigers that had chased us through the facility and nearly killed us multiple times. The same tigers that we were now trapped in a room with.

"This is a nightmare, right?" I said.

"I'm not playing his game," said Leo as he surveyed the room. "There has to be a way out of here."

Milo looked towards the large hole in the ground behind the row of robotic tigers. "The tigers had to be loaded into that hole somehow. I bet there's some sort of tunnel system under the ground that will lead us out of here."

"Sounds like a plan," I said as I cracked my knuckles, or at least tried to. The metallic clang that resulted didn't have quite the same impact that I was used to.

"I wouldn't bother," the doctor's booming voice interrupted. "I should have mentioned, I can hear everything you say, and if I don't like what I am hearing..."

Suddenly, my body froze, all my muscles, or what would have been my muscles tensed. I couldn't move anything but my eyes, I looked over to Leo and Milo who seemed to be frozen as well.

"So I would suggest you boys do as I say," Dr. Purkins said, and as quickly as my body had frozen, it unfroze.

"We'll find a way out of here you insane bastard, and when we do I will make sure you regret what you have done!" Leo yelled, the mechanical tinge in his voice made it sound like a roar.

"Bold words," the doctor replied. "But how will you make me regret what I have done if you don't know how to use your new body?"

As if on cue, the robotic tigers let out a series of menacing roars as they moved towards us. Despite the gravity of the situation, I was kind of curious to see what I was capable of, but I would never admit that to the other two.

"Okay, I guess we don't really have a choice," I said, getting ready to fight.

I didn't know if I still had adrenaline or if it was all just in my head, but I felt a surge of energy flow through my body as one of the robotic cats lunged at me, its claws aimed at my head.

I dodged to the side, surprised by my own reflexes.

"Yay! You unlocked your dexterity skill!" A voice said, making me nearly jump out of my skin.

I whirled around frantically, trying to locate the source of the voice. "Who said that?"

"I did," the voice responded cheerfully. It was the voice of a young girl and it was coming from inside my head.

Distracted, I didn't notice the blur of metal hurtling towards me until it was too late. The tiger's weight slammed into my chest, knocking the wind out of me as I crashed to the ground.

A flicker of red in the bottom left of my vision caught my attention. It shrunk to the left by a small amount. A number under the bar dropped from 700hp to 630hp.

I worked my legs up and under the tiger's body and kicked with all my might, throwing the tiger into the air. It flew back before crashing to the ground.

"Holly smokes! You unlocked your strength skill too!" The girl said.

I rose to my feet and rushed over to the machine as it lay on the ground.

"And your speed skill, you are on a roll!" She said.

I held the robotic tiger down with my feet as I grabbed its head like I had seen Milo do. It gnashed its teeth at my arm, managing to get in a bite before I ripped off its head. The red bar dipped and the number changed from 630hp to 540hp.

"Yay! You get 300 points for defeating your first bad guy, or I guess bad kitty."

A dull horizontal grey bar appeared in the top middle of my vision, it filled up a little of the way from left to right with a bright orange as the words '+300xp' appeared below it. It stayed in my vision for a moment before disappearing.

"What the fuck is going on?" I demanded of the child.
